Salford mother hurt in Pendleton racist acid attack?
A Salford woman had acid thrown at her in a racist attack as she pushed her baby in a pram along a street.
The 29-year-old was walking along Broad Street in Pendleton on Thursday when she was approached by a man in his 40s.
He made a sexual and racist comment to her before throwing a container of corrosive liquid over her.
The victim, who is black, was taken to hospital with burns to her chest and back, and is in a stable condition. Her baby was not injured.
A police spokesman said it was believed to have been a random attack on the woman and it was being treated as a hate crime.
'Nasty injury'
Det Con Jim Harris, of Greater Manchester Police, said it was "an appalling attack on a lady who was walking with her very young baby".
"Thankfully none of the corrosive liquid hit the baby or went on the victim's face as the incident could have been a lot worse than it already is," he said.
"The offender needs to be caught and held responsible for his actions which have caused a nasty injury to the lady and much distress."
The man was described as being white, of stocky build, 5ft 10in to 6ft 2in tall, had very short, dark hair with a straight hair line and a bald patch at the back.
He has blue eyes, a dimple in his chin and a red mark like a burn on his bottom lip and he spoke with a British accent.
He was wearing a sleeved dark grey jumper with a round neck, black tracksuit bottoms with a grey and white stripe down each leg and black trainers.
4 AnswersManchester9 years agoManchester United founded by a Scouser, isn't that ironic?
Manchester United Founded by a SCOUSER.
The parish was the birthplace of the Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Football Club which was established in 1878 and later became the world famous Manchester United. It began life as a football team formed by Frederick Attock a Liverpudlian, who was a superintendent engineer of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway (L&YR). The team played on a pitch at North Road, and were initially outfitted in green and gold jerseys. By 1892, they had been admitted to the Football League. The club remained in the area until 1893, when it moved to new premises at Bank Street in nearby Clayton. The name was changed to Manchester United Football Club in 1902.

Greater Manchester has highest anti-Semitic crime rate in UK
More anti-Semitic crime took place in Greater Manchester than London in 2011, despite seven times more Jews living in the capital, says a Jewish charity.
Nearly half of the 586 anti-Semitic crimes reported in the UK were in Greater Manchester, the Community Security Trust (CST) said.
The overall UK figure was the fourth highest since records began in 1984.
Greater Manchester Police said the increase reflected a greater reporting of incidents.
There were 244 reported anti-Semitic crimes in Greater Manchester - including street attacks, threats, vandalism and desecration of Jewish property - with 201 in London.
London's Jewish population stands at 149,800 compared with Greater Manchester's 21,700, the researchers said.
One incident of "extreme violence" took place when a Jewish family were filling up their car at a petrol station.
"As one of the family members crossed the forecourt in order to make payment, a car containing two white women reversed sharply into her, knocking her to the ground," the CST report said.
"The occupants then got out of their car, shouted 'Dirty Jew' and spat at the injured woman lying on the ground, before getting back into the car and driving away."
'Serious problem'
It added that the rise "continues the pattern whereby a higher proportion of the anti-Semitic incidents reported to CST occur in Greater Manchester than should be the case, given the relative sizes of the Jewish communities in Manchester and in London".
Among the incidents across the UK in 2011 were 92 assaults, 63 incidents of vandalism, 394 reports of abuse and 29 direct threats.
Mark Gardner, of CST, said: "Anti-Semitism is not the most important feature in British Jewish life, but it remains a serious problem in some parts of society, and retains the potential to worsen significantly in reaction to external events."
The rise in Greater Manchester was due to "major efforts" to ensure all incidents were recorded, police said.
Ch Supt Jon Rush, divisional commander for Bury, said: "What we must acknowledge is that the number of anti-Semitic assaults is far too high.
"People in our Jewish communities should be able to safely and freely go about their business without fear of being attacked, so this is the area we accept we need to tackle.
"We do not want people to suffer in silence and think they should not speak out when they are subjected to any form of abuse - we want them to tell us so we can bring the offenders to justice."

A 74-year-old woman has been stabbed in a "totally unprovoked" attack at a bus stop in south Manchester.
The woman was in front of Southern Cemetery, on the corner of Arrowfield Road and Winterman Avenue in Chorlton, when she was approached by a man.
She tried to fight him off and he ran off towards Princess Road. She was taken to hospital for treatment.
A man, 22, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the attack, which happened at about 10:30 GMT.
He remains in police custody for questioning.
Anyone with information is being urged to contact police.
I thought the unprovoked shooting of an innocent student visiting the city over Christmas was bad enough but this happened as well around the same time, what's going on in Manchester, what's up with people? Crime seems out of control.

Manchester10 years agoThe sinking of the Titanic anniversary event in Liverpool.?
This looks amazing, this will be as big as La Machine was!
Liverpool Titanic sinking centenary will see giant mechanical puppet of little girl take to city streets
A GIANT mechanical puppet of a little girl will honour the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic as the centrepiece of a huge street art exhibition next year that will be bigger than the giant Capital of Culture spider.
The three-day event – part of the city’s activities to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic – will be biggest of its kind in the UK in 2012.
The breathtaking street spectacular, named Sea Odyssey, will cost up to £2m and has been produced specifically for Liverpool by renowned experts Royal De Luxe (RDL).
Claire McColgan, director of Culture Liverpool, the city council’s events department, said: “Events don’t come much bigger than the Sea Odyssey.
“We know it will once again thrust Liverpool into the cultural spotlight.
“This is a human story of love told in giant form, and it won’t just engage the city but will capture the imagination of the nation.”
From Friday, April 20 to Sunday, April 22, 2012, a visually stunning free event involving the Little Girl Giant will take over the city, telling a story inspired by the Titanic.
Key city spaces will become focal points in a moving story of love, family and communication.
The council said it is the most complex event the city has ever staged, and will involve hundreds of people in its planning and execution.
It is hoped the event will attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city.
Liverpool council leader Joe Anderson said: “This will be a magical piece of theatre, the likes of which many people will never have seen before. To work with such a world-renowned company as Royal De Luxe is a real coup for Liverpool, and it’s wonderful we can mark this important anniversary with an unforgettable event.”
The city has been in talks with RDL’s artistic director and founder, Jean-Luc Courcoult, since 2006 about creating the spectacle.
On a visit to Liverpool, he was inspired by an emotional letter he saw in the Maritime Museum written by a young girl whose father was a passenger on the Titanic’s tragic maiden voyage.
As a result, the idea for Liverpool’s “Sea Odyssey” was born.
The giant girl has only been seen once before in the UK, when she wowed 1.5m people in London at the Sultan’s Elephant event in 2006.
Mr Courcoult said: “Liverpool for me stands out as an island in its own right within a larger island.
“Passions for football, the revolutionary music and poetry of The Beatles and the legendary story of the Titanic give the city a strong, emblematic identity and the people a compelling warmth which pulls me to them.”
Liverpool council is currently working to secure sponsorship for the event.
The European Regional Development Fund and the Arts Council England have already committed money.
Sea Odyssey is the final event which will use European legacy funding from the city’s Capital of Culture Year, in 2008.
It is the latest in a string of popular street art events that have wowed Liverpool audiences.
In 2008, during Capital of Culture, La Machine took over the city by bringing the 50ft La Princesse spider to the streets.
La Machine was created by Royal De Luxe’s rivals, Artichoke.

How many Mancs have scored in a European Cup Final? It seems to me all of the genuine footballing talent has always hailed from Liverpool and mancs just import it.Liverpool is the true hotbed of football, the mancs couldn't even manage a founder member lol. Even Man United were founded by a scouser called Frederick Attock, their most famous export and the only reason anyone's heard of them and it still took one of us to give them a leg up LOL. HMS Manchester has arrived in Liverpool for its final visit to the region before being decommissioned.
The Type 42 destroyer is affiliated to Manchester, but has berthed at Liverpool's cruise liner terminal as it is the closest it can get to the city.
