I'm a Family Nurse Practitioner in a private practice in Texas, where I treat a variety of both chronic and acute conditions patients of all ages. A great deal of my time is spent with diabetics, hypertensives, and those with cholesterol metabolism issues. I take a great deal of pride in the work I do, the patients I treat, and the positive outcomes I have helped to provide to them. I take time on Yahoo Answers to help provide well informed professional answers for those in need. If you have a personal question...I'll be happy to help! Just a note, however.... If your profile questions and answers are set to "private," then I WILL NOT answer any personal questions that you send. Historically, these are people who want to argue mere anecdotal evidence versus outcome studies that are researched based. These folks often promote themselves as "experts" in the field, but their references are all testimonial, theory based, or personal convictions. Don't bother.

  • Qualified to answer health or treatment questions?

For quite some time, I have continued to witness answers to health, treatment modalities, and medication questions that just don't add up, and are often incorrect. I've seen times where the best answer chosen by the asker is COMPLETELY wrong and full of anecdotal nonsense, yet there are often VERY precise and good replies by others. What gives?

So, I ask, how qualified should you be to answer health-related questions if you don't work in some form of health care, or studying it? Is it right to have non health-care related people give advice, especially if it is wrong? Certainly a perplexing ethical dilemma to me.

Just want to know what you all think out there. Thanks in advance for answers and comments.
