  • Is it my imagination or are DSL modems garbage?

Twice now I've gotten DSL internet service... and twice the service has caused continuous issues. Two DSL providers, three separate computers, and four separate DSL modems, I find myself constantly resetting my wireless 'gateway' (as windows calls it) and resetting the modem. Up to FOUR AND FIVE TIMES AN HOUR when things are bad.

When I had access to cable internet the service clean and problem-free. (I'd switch back to it... but there's no cable internet here in this one-horse town I've washed up in.) So... is it the modem, the provider, or DSL in general?

  • When I go to remove 'read only' status from a Windows folder?

when I go back to check and see if it worked, it ALWAYS is back to 'read only'?

    Here's the process.

    1) I right-click on the folder to be changed.

    2) I scroll down to properties and left-click.

    3) On the window that pops up, under the 'attributes' header that pops up, 'Read only is highlighted.

    4) I left-click on the box and it's no longer highlighted.

    5) I left-click the 'apply' box in the lower right corner.

    6) I left-click the 'OK' box a couple spots to the left.

    7) I right-click on the folder, scroll down to properties, left click to open the window, and when it comes up THE 'READ ONLY BOX IS HIGHLIGHTED AGAIN!!!!

    WTF am I doing wrong?

Note: This is NOT restricted to system folders; this includes folders I create to organize files and even my Internet Favorites file (which means it won't let me replace or delete old internet links).

  • Why do some liberals ask us not to judge Islam by the acts of a few lunatics...?

And yet ask us to judge all gun owners by the acts of a few lunatics?

  • Why can't I access posts I've been notified about?

I frequently post comments on stories on Yahoo, and appreciate the ability to go back and read responses to my comments provide by the Notifications.

About a month ago, I started having issues getting to read those responses. When I would click on the 'notification' for a message, the link would open the story and start to open the line of messages... and then stall out thinking about it. Refreshing helped sometimes... for a couple weeks, then it stopped working at all.

The past week or so, when following the notification link it leads to the story... and never displays the comment section at all, much less the comments I'm interested in following up on.

I'd appreciate any help on this.
