  • What are good ways to stop drinking with medical detox.?

I've been drinking heavily for 2 years and can't seem to stop. I get sick and shaky and have had a few experiences with hallucinations when I go more than 10 or so hours. Any suggestions, I can't take the time off of work to go to detox or rehab so any suggested methods of weening oneself off or a temporary cure for withdrawal?

  • what is this discomforting pressure in lower right abdominal area?

the lower region of my abdomen area feels like it is moving and pushing down towards the thigh.

Recently, I've felt it as far down as my knee. I thought it was a hernia but that was ruled out, but doctors can't seem to take the time to locate the problem.

It's only occasionally painful, but it is always severely annoying and sometimes it makes my leg twist.

could this be a blood-flow issue?

    possibly intestinitus?

anything to help would be greatly appreciated!!!

  • Are we actually in the beginning of an economic recession?

I think we have been in a recession since november, between inflation and outsourcing I feel that there is no possible solution except either buying some remote island out in the tropics or killing your brain of any intelligence and feeling the bliss of ignorance...what do you think?

  • How does someone begin to spread their written work?

I've been writing a large amount for years, I have hundreds of pages of philosophy and a few stories that are lengthy enough to be novels. I'm 30 years old and don't have much of an education and am curious how does one go about spreading his work in a safe and legal manner?

  • Between Chuck Palahniuk & Bret Easton Ellis?

I can't decide which one of them is more affecting. Everything I've read from either of the two brilliant authors has had a strong impact on me for the whole following week (at least). They have two of the most original and complex styles, as well as macabre and provocative descriptions and detail. Has anybody else read from these writers and had their head consumed with thought and awe for days later?

  • Is there any book more disturbing than Bret Easton Ellis' "American Psycho" (only answer if you've read it)

I watched the movie with Christian Bale when it was in theaters and thought it as good film and decided to read the book upon which the film was based.

Well, the book makes the movie look G-rated and has been consuming my mind for over a week...

never have I read a novel that included necrophilia, cannibalism, lurid torture descriptions and graphic sexual depictions in such a nonchalant manner -

Bret Easton Ellis really has a style of screwing with the psyche of the reader and pulling very original writing styles that actually make it nearly impossible to put it down.

It's not only the most disturbing piece of litery art I've ever read...it's also become my personal favorite!!!

But is there any fictional novel with similar style that are more disturbing or thought-provoking? I would love to find something that could beat that one!!!!

  • How do you feel about Anton LaVey's metaphor for satanism vs. his rituals. it sems a little contradictory eh?

I've read nearly all of his writings and love his philosophy on personal responsibility, self and individuality... but I do get confused with LaVey when he says that he does not believe in satan a literal deity, but rather as a metaphor for individuality and personal freedom...that's cool. But then why does he have to go into the rituals at the end of satanic bible which makes it like he's worshipping an actual deity, if he believes that satan is reference to self, then why can't he worship self without the psychodrama. Don't get me wrong, I love his work, but on occasions it appears that he's kind of contradicting himself? Any opinions?

  • Maybe contentment is only found through accepting your liabilities, as well as your assets!?

It seems that either some either only want to look at what their personal liabilities are and some others only look at what their personal assets are. Both of these types people also seem to be the most uncomfortable in their own skin. Why can't the individual simply search for what they enjoy and pursue it no matter what path the "norm" is following...

Just look at Charles Bukowski - he was perfectly content by being a writer, drunk and gamber - all three were personal assets to him and he also needed his personal liabilities to appreciate his assets. He said that everything else not related to drinking, gambling and writing was just wasted time. He didn't want to be an astronaut, he became what he wanted...and he lived his life in his own individualistic happiness.

It seems like the majority of people are only able to accept either the good or bad within themselves and seem disconcerned to look at both! Anybody with me?

  • Why do the most intelligent people go down similar paths of destruction?....?

It seems as though many deep-thinking and highly intellectual individuals suffer from one or more of the following: alcoholism, drug-addiction, sex addiction, delusions, depression, etc. - I believe it is because they need to be anesthetized to escape the constant flowing of thought and mental paradoxes. Any other opinions or theories?

  • Why the sunburn from alcohol consumption?!?!?

I drink quite often and am nearly 30 years old. But my skin color is quite often a bright red and it itches like I've been in the sun. Someone told me of the "tavern sunburn" from the alcohol coming out the pores. What causes this? I can't find much searching it on google. Also can this be a sign of something dangerous?

  • Very confusing sexual encounter.?

So I bumped into one of my closest friends wife the other night at a bar and all my friends and all her friends left so we were alone together. We were drinking quite a bit and ended up having sex at my apartment. She told me she'd wanted me for a long time and not to tell her husband about our encounter. But I feel my conscience screwing with me since I just hung out with him tonight. Even though me and her were drunk, it still is no excuse for having a one-night stand with one of my best friend's wife. Should I come clean with him or wait for the fire to flame up!?!?

  • Why do some of us like pursue only what's unattainable?

I am extremely non-committal and openly say it to everybody who knows me. Unfortunately, I tend to live in a fantasy world where I seem to only pursue women who are either heavily involved or have multiple kids, or are mentally insane. Whenever I start to get close to a single or nice or respectful young woman I tend to run and screw it all up? Is there some freudian slip here?

  • What is this pain I'm feeling right below my right rib and in my upper right back?

I've been experiencing severe pain below my right rib and in my upper back on the right side. It comes and goes but recently it has been excruciating to cough, sneeze, move quickly etc. At first I thought it was back pain or a torn muscle or something but I'm beginning to think it is whatever connects from the front to the back. I've been also having severe phlegm in the throat for a while as well as stomach problems, and it seems like these things could tie in with the pain I'm feeling. Anybody out there with minimal knowledge, let me know what the possibilities could be so I can know if a doctor may need to be seen

  • Is it possible to be having these brutal alcohol withdrawals again?

I was sober for a few years after kicking a horrible drug habit. Four months ago I started drinking again and haven't had a sober day since. Recently I had been beginning to get severe abdominal pains and haven't been eating well. So since I have not had a day without alcohol in several months I promised to have a sober day yesterday. I took some melatonin and read and was unable to sleep, was sweating profusely, started dry heaving and was experiencing the shakes once again. I had these symptons before but that was after years of it and I'm only 28... Is this possible after only drinking four months?
