  • Can a diet too low in carbs cause a high blood sugar result? I have been on a low carb diet for about a year?

and have lost about 40 pounds. I try to limit my carbs to 30 or less per day although I do sometimes cheat on the weekends. Just recently I have had my blood work done and my blood sugars came back borderline high. All my other numbers were great. I don't understand, when I was following a high carb diet my sugars were normal. I do not have diabetes. Can anyone explain why this is? I have tried to look up on internet but all I find is that low carb diets help reduce blood sugar. My doctor did not explain this to me and I am looking for another doctor to see. Do I need to eat more carbs? Or exercise or what?

  • Mortgage/Refinance professionals Can you answer this?

My husband and I are eligible for a HARP 2 Refinance, however we are finding that lenders are capping the LTV at 125%. This does not seem fair as it says there are no LTV's on the Making Home Affordable website. Why is that? We have a home value (by Fannie Mae) of 173,600 and owe about 248,000 (over the 125%). Any lenders in Chicago area that are willing to do that loan? I have been doing research and have made a few phone calls to no avail. Any advice would be appreciated. I do not want to deal with my current servicer as they are no good...Green Tree...I already called them and they have a cap of 125% as well. Besides that, they are HORRIBLE!

  • Does cheap wine need refridgeration?

Specifically, Carlo Rossi white zinfandel. I have one of those huge bottles (jug) and I want some but don't have room in my fridge to keep it right now. I can't drink the whole jug...and was wondering if it would still be good if I don't put it in there?

  • Property taxes going down?

I received a notice today from the assessors office that every single home in my township has been reassessed 12% lower assessed valuation from 2008. Does that mean my property taxes will go down too? And if so, by how much?

  • Making friends as adults?

Okay, here is the situation....My husband and I are in our forties....he has grown children from a previous marraige and we have no children at home....Any ideas for making friends? We own our own home but our neighbors just keep to themselves. We don't really go to bars because of the drinking and driving thing, but we do like to have a few drinks on the weekends at home. How do we go about meeting other couples in the same situation. We are middle income and during these difficult economic times ( I am only working part time) we can't really afford to go to bars, or join a bowling league ( which we would like to do but can't afford it right now), we are not religious and do not go to church...How do we go about meeting other couples our own age who enjoy doing the same things we do? It's saturday night and here we are just wishing we had some friends to play cards with, have a few drinks, throw some darts in our garage or just do something???? Anyone else out there having the same problem? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Question for Chicago Area Smokers?

With the increase in tax on cigarettes, it's getting to be very expensive to smoke, and I would like to try o quit, but if anyone knows where to buy the least expensive cigarettes, in either Lake county or another county other than Cook, can you let me know? I currently smoke Marlboro Milds, but if there is any other good menthol mild/light cigarette, I'd be willing to try that as well. If anyone can recommend a good lower priced cig I would appreciate it...It's getting too expensive to smoke nowadays with the economy as bad as it is.....any recommendations would be helpful...Are the "Basic" cigs any good? I almost pooped in my pants when I was in Walgreens this week and saw Marlboro's for $70 plus tax per carton in Cook county! Thanks for your help!

  • Stand by juror in Chicago?

I got a notice to call in the day before to find out if I must report. I really am hoping not to have to go because it's at the cook county jail at 26th and California (not the greatest area and I don't drive). Do you think I could call and ask for a postponement or a different courthouse closer to my home? And what should I say?

  • Jury duty in Chicago at 26th and California?

Okay, here is my situation. I got a notice to serve as a standby juror and am instructed to call the day before to find out if I need to go. The problem is, I do not drive and I am absolutely terrified to go into that neighborhood on public transportation. I also only work part time and do not get paid when I am not at work and need every cent I make. I do not have anyone who can even drive me to the courthouse. Any ideas as to what I can do or say to them to maybe get out of this or have them send me to another location nearer to my home? What happens if I ignore the summons-like I forgot or I never received it? Please, I need some answers. Thanks!
