What is the right make/model of desktop computer for me?
Its been years since the last time I bought a computer and I'm having trouble finding the right PC for me because I'm so out of the loop and detached.
It will be used primarily in the living room on our main TV. Netflix, movies, internet browsing, E-Mail, etc will be the main function but I occasionally play a game or two - nothing of the latest and greatest though, more like Civilization or Star Trek Online.
I'd like to get an appropriate commercially available PC that has potential to be upgraded in the future if my needs change but I definitely want to spend less than 1000. I'd be happier under $750.
I don't even know if I am truly being pragmatic and realistic. Suggestions?
1 AnswerDesktops7 years agoIs a "hot dipped" nail galvanized?
I'm building a shed tomorrow and have borrowed a nail gun. I'm looking for "hot dipped galvanized nails" for the shed. I'm looking for nails for this gun and the product description just says "hot dipped"
http://www.lowes.com/pd_126174-67702-20302S_0__?pr...
My understanding the hot dip is HOW galvanization takes place. Does that mean these nails are hot dipped galvanized or do I need to find a compatible nail product that specifically says hot dipped galvanized instead of just hot dipped?
Thanks!
5 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)9 years agoDoes my hooker ex wife have to tell me if she remarries (because we have a son)?
Long story short is I have some indicators that my ex-wife may have married one of the guys she was cheating on me with while I was in/getting home from Iraq last time (he's Army, too. It was awesome!)
I don't care if she's married but I'd like to know if my son has a step dad or not so that I can answer any questions he may have (he's only four and this would probably be confusing for him) or talk to him about it later if necessary.
So, because we have a child together, is she legally required to notify me if she remarries/my son gets a step dad? (This is in Indiana and Kentucky if it matters)
4 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoHow many different ways are there to tell Mark Mark is a SF poser?
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqwPy...
David asks: Why do people join the army? What exactly are they fighting for?
Mark Mark: Because they were too stupid to join the Navy. .Anyway we need people to make up the human shield the military uses during beach landings .Like the one they used during the attack on Normandy.France. Who do you think was laying all over the beach while the special forces took out all the machine gun nests and heavy artillery that was all along the coast ?Yep that's right I did it.
So which part of Mark Mark's commentary made it most obvious he is a poser to you? I'll share my thoughts on some glaring errors shortly.
And remember kids: for every soldier in SF, there are ten more who claim to be...
2 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoIts Christmas at the Armory: What should I try to get from Uncle Sam/Santa Clause?
...and behold on the twenty fourth day of May, budget money unto us was deposited...
So its pre-mob Christmas and I have two hours to put together a wish list of non-MTOE goodies for deployment. Suggestions? NSNs would be great if you have them. Anything that regularly gets rejected?
Thanks.
5 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoWhich war does he misunderstand the most: Afghanistan or the Civil War?
The question in question:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aue68...
"Since so many liberals agree with the Yankee handling of the Civil War?
would they complain if we changed the way we fight in Afghanistan to make it more like Sherman's March? We could end that conflict in a few months at most and bring home our troops. Come on libs. Agree or not."
The asker (in case he deletes the question):
http://answers.yahoo.com/activity?show=R3EpOwCUaa
So is it his lack of understanding of the Civil War or the Afghanistan war that is the greatest travesty? Is it better to be ignorant of your history or your current affairs?
Who do we blame: his parents, the media or the school system?
Thoughts?
1 AnswerMilitary1 decade agoMy house is 90 years old, was remodeled and has vinyl siding. What is it likely the original siding was?
When my house was remodeled before I bought it, it lost a lot of the "old" charm that I've decided I want to recapture.
It currently has vinyl siding on the outside. What is it likely the original siding looked like circa 1920? How difficult would this be to restore?
Any example links of pictures or retailers selling products I need would be extremely helpful.
Thanks.

What do I need to do to prepare to build a fence?
How do I confirm my property line officially?
How do I find out what local laws/ordinances may apply to the type, size, etc of my hypothetical fence?
Anything else I need to know?
1 AnswerDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoWhat are some good questions to ask a WWII veteran in an interview?
I have to interview a World War II veteran for a 20th Century History class I'm taking this semester. I need 25 questions to ask and I have about 15.
Any suggestions beyond "Did you kill anybody?"
Thanks.

8 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoAm I reading this right? (NGR 600-200)?
Chapter 4-7 states "e. All units may fill one-year projected vacancies (including those caused by reorganization actions) without regard to percentage of strength authorized."
Is that basically saying that soldiers can be placed in full slots in anticipation of those slots being open within a year?
I just want to make sure my wishful thinking isn't impacting my understanding.
Thanks

A lot of people say "choose an MOS you can do outside the military!" Am I the only one who thinks that's gay?
It drives me nuts every time someone recommends that to kids on here. What happened to people wanting to do something you CAN'T do in the civilian world? Don't kids like guns and explosions anymore?
9 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoWhat are some specific examples of lies recruiters told you?
We hear about recruiters lying all the time. I wasn't lied to when I enlisted, though my recruiter was lazy. In my experience as a recruiter, I was dealing with a lot of stupid people who were poor listeners.
Does anyone have any first hand accounts of lies you were told by recruiters?

I know 19K has a cut off of 6' 1" but I can't find anything indicating the cut off corresponds to Armor officers as well.

1 AnswerMilitary1 decade agoHow much emphasis do maneuver units place on fire support planning/integration?
I come from a Fire Support background and have supported a variety of missions/unit over the years. Recently, I was working with a unit and was shocked/horrified/disappointed at their lack of proper utilization of Fire Support assets in both planning and execution.
I've had the classes and done the briefings - I know we pay a lot of lip service to fire support (we love talking about ourselves) but seriously, what are some of your experiences?
Are companies and battalions seeing/working with their FSO/FSNCOs? Are the lower ranking guys at the platoon level working with their FOs?
The stories I hear (and live) seem to be polar opposites: some units push Fire Support hard and others have no idea what to do with them and bury them on details. What do the maneuver school houses teach on this that we end up with such a dichotomy with apparently no middle ground?
Sorry this is kind of a big, rambling question... just answer as best you can. Much appreciated.
2 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoDo people refer to promotions as "ranking up" now?
I see these questions from kids asking about how to "rank up". They are then answered with advice about working hard, PT, college classes, etc. Honestly, when I hear someone asking "How do I rank up?" I think "Call of Duty moron..."
So what's the deal? Am I old fashion for calling them "Advancements" and "Promotions"?
