Betta and Cory Catfish get along?
I have a 5.5 gallon tank filtered and heated with a veil tail male betta named Cassius (ok you guys probably don't care about that part) . I had a 40 long for years with a variety of fish species before it shut down but I know the rules are different with smaller tanks. Would my betta be okay with 2-3 Cory cats, possibly green or albino?
My tank does come with an ornament they can hide around as well as some silk and live plants for them to explore through. Please help! Thanks! :)
6 AnswersFish7 years agoHow to Start a Pet Shop?
*I asked this question already in the small business category, I know. But I wanted this question to be viewable in the Pets Category as well.*
Okay, so here's some information: I love animals. I've been working for a major Pet Store corporation for the past 3 years just so I can stay close to them. But I would like to start my own business. Because it will be my first go at it, I wont have anything large. I was thinking of selling small pets such as: Fancy rats, fancy mice, guinea pigs, and some breeds of hamsters. I would also like to sell some birds such as parakeets, maybe a few basic finches, and canaries (perhaps in the future if things go well I can branch out to conures and parrots); I'm not sure if I should start with fish but if I did it would be a very small selection until I expand (i.e. different species of goldfish such as fantails, maybe some telescopes or orandas or ryukins; also perhaps some breeds of bettas and guppies). I'm mentioning all of this so you guys can get a feel for what i'm looking to do and possibly give me some great information.
If I took in dogs or cats they would more than likely be rescues to be adopted out - but once again, i'm not that far into planning as of yet. Anyways, can someone tell me what license do I have to go for? Is business school necessary to start a business such as this? Are there any grants I can go for to get started? Just please some ideas of what i'm looking at.
(sn: I will also have a small selection of items needed to care for these pets: habitats, tanks, cages, toys, food, bedding, décor, etc.) Thanks so much for your time!
1 AnswerOther - Pets7 years agoAqueon Mini Heater 10w on a 5.5 Gallon tank?
Hey guys its me again: okay so, the heater I'm going to get is the Aqueon mini 10w. Does anyone have experience with this heater in a tank maybe 3 gallons and up?
I've been doing some research and have found some bad reviews. It's supposed to be for 5gallons and smaller but some ppl say that it has been spiking in temperature up to 90degrees. This is mainly in smaller tanks like a gallon to two and a half but it makes me nervous. Has anyone used this on a larger tank and not had any problems? I've seen a couple good reviews for larger tanks but I'd rather be sure than sorry. I will have a thermometer inside the tank to monitor but sometimes in away for work for hours and I'm wary. Please help!
1 AnswerFish7 years agoBetta fish and filter on Top Fin 5.5 Gallon Starter Kit?
Hey all! So here is my question: does anyone know if the filter on the Top Fin 5.5 Gallon Starter Kit is too strong for a betta fish? I've read some stuff online where people have said it is too strong while others say that it doesn't bother their fish at all. I'm going to be getting the kit for Black Friday to put a betta in, and I am getting a little concerned. And if the filter is too strong, how can I slow the flow/baffle the flow with a sponge? (Any step by step instructions or videos to assist me?) Thank you very much guys!
2 AnswersFish8 years agoHow long to add fish in a planted tank?
Okay so I had a forty long tank for years since I was a kid. Started with goldfish, moved on to tropical community, then after some time moved on to semi-aggressive tropicals, and then kept cichlids. That tank has been gone for a bit so now I'm starting over. I will be getting the Top Fin 5.5 starter kit for Black Friday and it is my intention to keep a betta in it as well as make it a live planted tank.
I've never done live plants before but I had always let my tank cycle a couple weeks each time I started over my tank. Basically my question is how long should I let my planted tank cycle before adding in my betta? I've been doing some research and some people have been saying a month and others a week. Thanks for all the help!
(P.S. I will more than likely be using amazon swords, java, anubias and grass)
5 AnswersFish8 years agoDoes anyone know the title/s to the vocal/instrumental songs in this Marine's Homecoming YouTube video?
A young man made a video recording his homecoming trip to surprise his girlfriend. He uses one or two different songs within the video. I feel like I've heard these somewhere from a movie soundtrack but I cannot place them. I am very interested in this song/songs, particularly the one playing at 3:46. If anyone knows the song/s title or perhaps even Movie title for a soundtrack please let me know. Here is a link to the video below so you can listen for yourselves:
