  • early bye... good or bad for Ravens...?

the ravens original bye week was scheduled for fairly late in the season(week 10) now due to damage from ike... they as well as Houston had to take their bye week in week 2...

what are opinions on how this will affect the rest of the Ravens and Houston's season... having a bye so early in the season

  • Is this ALOT of swelling... just courious?

ok i went to the ortho today after tripping and reinjuring my knee(which i had surgery on June 5th) and yesterday i restarted using my crutches because the pain and swelling had gotten SO bad that i could not walk without limping and more... well today the doc drained 1250cc of fluid from my knee... and told me to keep off it for the next 3 weeks(so back on crutches i go) and i go back on the 1st...the good news is that he said there was very little blood in the fluid so there probably wasnt a signifificant tear and i had probably only sprained it, but if the swelling continued or increased then he would have to do an MRI and i may even be needing another surgery(although he doenst want to go down that road again).... i am currently lying on the recliner with my leg propped up on about 7 pillows... and at the moment my knee is still quite swollen...

my friends could not believe how much fluid came off my knee(they knew it was swollen but jeeze) and i didnt realize that it was that bad

oh yeah the fluid was a light to medium color if that means anything..

what should i do besides ice and elevate and anti-inflamatories to help decrease the swelling

  • does this soudn normal to you guys.... i go back to ortho on Friday and i plan to ask there as well...

so i had knee surgery on June 5th, and i just finished rehab before i go back for my8 week followup... and i have been released to do light cutting and to begin jogging.. well today i did some sprints(stupid i know) which i followed with a couple of squats(also dumb) to see if i were to be cleared by the doc if i would be able to even attempt to cheer this season or not... anyway the sprinting caused some moderate pain because of the sudden cutting and direction changes. but when i was doing the squats(like the set for a basket toss) after my second one i began to feel pain and then when i went down for the third i felt something pop and since my knee has been hurting again(not severely but like a 6 or 7 out of 10) and i actually had to take a pain pill to try and ease the pain...the is some MINIMAL swelling but nothing too severe or and not really worse then it has been since the surgery...

my question is should i tell the doc about this "new" problem on friday or should i just let it go...

also on my right(good) knee i have a very small knot on the back of my knee u can not see it but can feel it when my knee is completely extended... what could this be?

  • going back to competitive cheer... is this too soon following knee surgery...

I had a lateral release, bone shaving, and meniscus repair/shaving done to my left knee on June the 5th... this was done folllowing a reinjury to that knee which resulted in my knee giving away and causing several dislocations to my patella...

my competitive cheer season is to start in about a month and i was just cleared to slowly begin light cutting and twisting, however i am not allowed to run just yet nor am i allowed to jump or tumble or do heavy cutting or twisting... i go back to the doctor on the 8th and i do plan to ask him these questions as well...

but i was wondering if it would be too soon(3 months) post op to return to competitive sports?

    or

if i should tell my coach that i will unfortunatly not be cheering this year, and instead work on getting my strength and flexibility back fully and prepare for a healthly season next year?

as much as i want to cheer this year i dont want to push my body when it may not be ready and wind up missing nationals again this year because of a reinjury(i did this last season following the inital knee injury-partial MCL tear- and wound up reinjuring my knee requiring the surgery)

    thanks in advance

  • spinal tap.... hospital called and said there was bacteria in it...?

i had a nasty headache, with dizziness, nasuea, and neck pain on friday(the headache and dizziness had been going on for about a week) so i went to the ER and they did a CT scan and it came back normal and i was discharged with strained muscles in my neck, but told that if the pain got worse or if i started with a fever or vomiting to return.... later that night i began with a mild fever(99.1) which i was fine with but then i began vomiting(couldnt even keep water down) so my friends took me back to the ER where they did a spinal tap(fluid was clear), and more blood work(white count was elevated), so i was given two rounds of antibiotics(i think that they were started before the tap, but cant remember), meds for pain and the nausea and vomiting... and once again discharged several hours later...

since i have not had the headaches but i have been having nasty stomach pains, along with nausea and one episode of vomiting... my friend thinks that it may be my gallbladder

    should i worry?

  • i dont know what to do, and i think i am loosing my friends....?

I hate my self lately for the way that i have been acting. I have been extremely moody and emotional. I have a surgery coming up so im stressed over that and the company that i work for is trying to screw me over, but none of this is any excuse for the way that have been acting...

i just really dont know what to do anymore... i am trying to act as though everything is fine and was doing ok until i found out about the company screwing me over with my insurance..

my friends are being really supportive but i know that they are getting pissed, and i want to know if anyone knows anyway that i can show them that i appriciate everything that they are doing for me.

or how i can tell them what is going on without feeling like im just making excuses, cause thats how i feel everytime i tell them what is wrong...

i hate feeling like this and i hate making my friends feel like they are doing something wrong...

please help me... im hoping that after my surgery i will be back to my self

  • Lateral Release....?

I just went back to the ortho today, and he ordered another MRI, and he thinks that among the other problems that i am having with my knee(ligament issues) the main reason that my knee has been giving out, and making a loud popping and shifting sensation everytime i try to stand up(with my immobolizer on, cause i cant put any weight on it without it on) is because my patella is maltracking and he wants to possibly do a lateral release to help correct the problems... I may still be having to have the microfracture, and ligaments corrected, but he wont know for certain until he looks at the new MRI or gets in there and sees what exactly is going on...

If I only wind up needing the lateral release(which at this point i am hoping for) what is the recovery time?

Will i be ready for competitve cheer by mid setpember- early october?

  • Can someone help... I dont know what to do...injury help?

ok i know that i post alot... but im getting really frustrated... I had my followup for my knee yesterday and the doc decided(thanks to the progress note from the PT-who had only seen me once-NOT the one i've seen for the past 10 months) that i should continue with PT even though it hasnt worked for the past 10 months...He also decided to try another cortisone shot(even though the first 3 didnt work)...

When i went there 3 weeks ago he was all about doing surgery because of my injuries...now he is saying that surgery isnt necessary and that i need to continue with PT even though i can still(6 weeks later) put NO weight on my knee with out it giving way again(with immobolizer off), and with it on my knee pops and shifts with every step...

My friends think that i should consult with another specialist, but im not sure if this is the way to go... or if i should wait it out once again with failed PT..

    any help would be appriciated

  • PT progress note says that my ROM in my knee is 130 but i cant get that by my self...HELP...?

ok i have been in PT for the last 3 weeks to see if i can regain ROM before having suregery... when i began my max ROM(on my own) was only 70* of flexion, and when i was remeasured yesterday i got a very painful100* on my own the therapist wasnt happen and worked on my knee more and was able to "push" me to 130*(extremely painful-i told him this)... when he did my progress note today(go back to Dr on Monday) he put my ROM as 130* even though i couldnt get that far by my self... and the note says nothing about the ROM being painful

my knee is still very tender, and unstable and im afraid that the Dr will see the huge increase in ROM and say just to continue with PT, despite the pain and instability...

dont get me wrong im glad that the ROM is back but i also need something to be done so that my knee is more stable so that i can return to my job as well as competitve sports(cheerleading)

    thanks...

  • PLEASE ANSWER..... knee popped... swelling?

My knee is injured and in an immobolizer(past 5 weeks) and have been progressivly able to apply more weight to my leg(as long as the immobolizer is on, NWB without it)... well friday and saturday i did alot of walking and since then my knee has been more painful then usual, then yesterday when i got up from my couch i heard something pop felt a little pain and "shift" but nothing major... then today while i was out and went to get up i felt something again pop in my knee and my knee felt as though it was going to give(had i not had the brace on) and since then my knee has felt like it has swollen up again...

the swelling seems to be mostly around my knee cap(medial side)...

what should i do? I go back to the Dr on Monday to find out about surgery, and i have PT twice more this week...

ive had it elevated since i got home around 5, no ice cause i havent taken the brace off and i dont think ice would do good with brace on(scared to take it off, plus good compression)

    Thanx

  • Hip pain... Could it be from my knee injury...?

I have an injury to my left knee(long story) and I am in am immobolizer(have been for the last 5 weeks) and was told 2 weeks ago(when i went to the specialist) that i could begin WBAT(had previously been NWB followed by minimal to limited weight bearing) and the specialist said that if i was comfortable with full weightbearing that it was ok to start but for long distances or if im gonna be on my knee for a length of time to use at least 1 crutch so that i dont limp as badly and get pains in my back... so last week i finally felt as though my knee wasnt going to give even with the brace on(still NWB with it off cause of instability) so i started going for the most part without the crutches(i still keep them in my car just in case)... well Friday and Saturday i did alot of walking and my knee was killing me afterwards, so today i took it easy and kept my knee elevated most of the day... but now my right hip is really sore, but the thing is that it only hurts when i sit with my leg bent

  • Retuning to Cheerleading(tumbling)... post knee surgery...?

im having knee surgery in a few weeks and i was wondering if it would be possible(likely) for me to be able to return to competitive cheerleading by September(mid)...

I need to be able to stunt(base) and jump... but would also like to be able to start tumbling again too(standing tucks, and some running passes...but standing tuck is most important)...

If im having the surgery in early May would mid-September be too much of a rush to get back to sports...

The surgery that i am most likely having is ACL reconstruction(couldnt tell from MRI if it was completely torn or not because of swelling, and all images not loading..)

the dr also is about 95% certain that i have a chondral fracture to my patella which will also need to be repaired(this may alos be the reason for the unclear veiw of my ACL)

i know that i need to ask the surgeon these questions but i wanted to atleast get an idea of what i can expect...

    thanks for any advice

I also have a grade 2 tear to my MCL

  • knee injury... patella sensitivity... please answer?

so i know that i have posted alot about this over the past few weeks but this is relativity new...

my knee gave out 4 weeks ago and it is suspected that i have damage to my ACL, a partially torn MCL, as well as a possible chonral fracture to my patella...

well today while i was working on trying to regain some ROM i noticed that i upon extending my knee i had a sharp pain around the medial aspect of my patella and since my knee cap as been extra sensitive to touch on the inside...

could this be caused by the possible chondral fracture, or is it due to the ligament injuries

i plan on telling the therapist tomarrow when i go to PT, as i am certain it will be aggravated again during PT... but i was just wondering what could be causing the tenderness to my patella...

when i went to the knee specialist that my ortho sent me to he asked if i had ever dislocated my patella, because he said that it was very loose and indictive of a dislocation(i dont recall ever doing that)

  • knee injury... stationary bike ok...?

i reinjured my knee 4 weeks ago and i am in an immobolizer... the ortho that i am seeing has put me in PT for 3 weeks to try and regain some ROM(i now am at 75* but very painful) also i am not allowed to bear weight without the immobolizer on as my knee is still very unstable... i finished my first week in PT and i am only doing heel slides, straight leg raises, quad sets, and short leg arcs(basicaly all table work)... would i be able to do the stationary bike since it is a"non weight bearing" activity.. or no because of the lack of ROM....

i know that if bike is ok then they will have me doing it in PT but i was just wondering if i could cause any further damage to my knee if i attempted it on my own or should i just wait to see how things go in PT first...

    thanks

I am in PT to try and regain strength and ROM before having surgery, and im a normally very active 23 yo athlete(competitive cheerleading, and recreational beach volleyball, and tennis) if that helps any

  • knee injury... ACL PLEASE ANSWER....?

I may be having to have ACL reconstruction in a few weeks(in PT now to regain ROM) and i was wondering which graft would be best for me(i know u really cant choose but)

    I am a competitve cheerleader, i am 23...

for cheerleading i am a base... but i also do some tumbling...

I was wondering if i had the patellar tendon graft would that affect me being able to resume being a base(both main and secondary)... also how would this grafting affect my jumps and ability to tumble...

and the same with the hamstring graft... i know that there is some residual strength lost but would it be enough to cause me to be unable to tumble and jump...

If i had to choose between being able to tumble and base i would rather be able to continue basing....

also, I may have a small chondral fracture to my patella(cartilage ripped off from back of patella) would this cause me NOT to be able to use the patellar tendon?

    thanks...

  • ankle pain... no specific injury...help?

i injured my left knee just about 4 weeks ago ang have been in an immobolizer and using crutches since... i am now WBAT so am using the crutches less... but have recently noticed that my right ankle is painful when turned in and there is also slight swelling on the outside(kind of a swelling "knot")...

I am also having some discomfort while going down stairs...

is there anything that i can do to help with my ankle discomfort and swelling...I really cant stay off it since i cant put too much weight on my left leg because of my knee injury, so the only thing that i can think of to do (and have been doing) is elevating at night and icing...

any suggestions on what i can do to prevent further damage...

also, my right knee has been feeling "funny" as well... it cracks when climbing stairs and sometimes makes a ginding noise(but no pain)

    thanks

  • microfracture surgery... Please answer....?

I may have to be having microfracture done to my patella in 3 weeks, i was wondering if anyone knew how long the recovery was, and when i would be able to return to competitive cheerleading?

The season starts in August but i would need to be able to jump and stunt by the beginning of October. Tumbling would be great but not necessary at that time...

I plan on asking my doc these questions too, but was wondering if any one has had this experience and could share their stories... thanx

Also, my doc thinks i may have a torn ACL as well... and if that is the case i know that recovery would be much longer but i wont know for sure until i go back in 3 weeks...

    here are my symptoms:

    *swelling

*instability in knee(knee feels as though it may buckle again)

*max ROM 75*(after that knee feels like its gonna pop out of place...and "locks" up)

*tenderness around patella and along medial aspect of knee

*inability to bear weight without immobolizer on

    thanks again
