  • Buffet/ meal ideas, special dietary requirement included... cooking for my family next week (please help!!!!)?

So my grandparents are coming up from Wiltshire next week and after a couple of glasses of wine I offered to entertain at mine and do food. I like entertaining but always over think:

My house if reasonably sized but I don’t think a sit down meal is an option, so think buffet style is the best option but don’t want to leave people hungry, I don’t want anything fancy, just simple budget friendly and tasty.

There will probably be about 10-16 of us with an age range of 1 month-70 years.

Oh and just to make things awkward my mum and 4 year old sister can’t eat dairy or soya and my aunt is vegetarian!!

  • How can I encourage a healthy sleeping pattern for an adult with learning disabilities and autism?

As a support worker, I keywork a 54 year old gentleman with severe learning disabilities and autism, I have been trying for about 6 months to improve his sleeping pattern which is awful! He goes to bed when he wants to go to bed and stays up when he wants to stay up, which is fine of course but the problem is he can sometimes stay up for up to 72 hours and refuse to give in! He becomes very agitated, he slaps himself to keep himself awake and can be aggressive. On the flip side he has been known to spend days at a time sleeping in bed refusing food and fluids. Sometimes he will sleep through the night and be up all day and other times he will have naps during the day and carry on as normal, it s all over the place and he goes through phases of all of the above! We have tried to encourage him to go to bed and get up at various times, trying to calm him in the evenings, he likes to have a bath after his dinner everyday without fail and we will have some down time afterwards but it all depends on his mood how successful it is. He has reflexology which relaxes him but it s not possible to get an evening appointment. Sleeping tablets are ineffective. I m really out of ideas and have kind of accepted it won t change but any ideas are welcome as he misses out on a lot due to being over tired and agitated (much like a young child refusing to give in and admit they need sleep until they can no longer stay awake) or being asleep in the daytime. Thank you!

  • Taking unpaid leave for a holiday when there is no annual leave available?

Me and my friend are trying to plan a holiday together and need to go between now and September but I m struggling to get time off, I have over 2 weeks of annual leave remaining however most of the annual leave has been taken up to November. Can I arrange to take unpaid leave? Are there any other ways around this? I had this problem last year and lost over a week of annual leave at the end of the year because it had all been booked. I work in healthcare with a staff team of 30, we each have 225 hours of annual leave each year but only 2 staff allowed off at any time. It really doesn t work!! Thanks :)

  • Looking to try new make up brands/ products?

Most of my make up bag essentials (foundation, primer, moisturiser concealer, contour ect) are from mac, I love the no7 lipsticks as they stay on forever, even better than a Chanel lipstick that I have! I'm looking to try some different brands and products though, I will stick to mac for base, I thought about trying illamasqua but haven't heard good things considering how expensive it is!! My price range is around what you would expect to pay at somewhere like mac or urban decay, I have fair combination skin, that looks slightly blotchy before moisturiser and primer, dark hair and eyes that Change from brown to green to a few other colours!! Please give me some fun new things to try that are good quality and can be added into my make up routine. Thank you :) x

  • How to make my hair greasy for dying?

The obvious answer y would be to not wash it for a while I know but would quite like to do it tonight? Was thinking of putting bio oil or something like that in it but wasn't sure if it would wash out well or stop the dye from taking properly? Any suggestions? If not I'll just dye it as it is or leave it till the morning as my hair gets quite greasy overnight. Thanks :) x

  • Can you drive after you've been in hospital for an alcohol detox?

I was in a psychiatric hospital and we had patients in for a one week alcohol detox every week, my friend has been to a place called open road which helps people who are struggling with drug and alcohol problems and was told that she may have to go in for detox if she needs medication and monitoring to stop drinking. Will she be able to drive when she comes out again? I know some of the psychiatric patients had to wait three months after their admission (myself not included) but not sure about detox patients. Preferably please answer if you have information based on experience, know someone with experience or have worked in the field I appreciate anyone's time but don't want to be confused! Many thanks xx
