  • got a little issue here with a work pc.?

this pc runs some very specific software that needs specific requirements -

intel core 2 duo 3.0GHZ processor.

    intel mainboard

    4gb DDR2 ram

    nvidia quadro video card

so the issue is the pc not even booting. Its not even passing post. no BIOS splash screen ...nothing

removed video card, HDD cd rom drive nothing

removed ram - gave the trouble beep for no ram - ok fine..put back in ram - still nothing- went as far as even reset the BIOS by removing the BIOS battery still nothing

removed motherboard from case.removed RAM and fans..cleaned out everything.new artic silver 5 thermal paste - still nothing - then boom - it booted up.

reconfigured the BIOS with the correct settings - date & time etc however when i save and exit....its not rebooting -

if i turn it off then leave it and turn it back on i MAY get to pass post and then the BIOS splash screen will appear with the normal prompts to enter bois if necessary etc.

if i enter the bios to check the settings i saw the CPU fan spinning like 831 rpm or so..and temps rising to 70 degrees Celsius.....could this be the cause of the no boot..??

i'm thinking the CPU is going into thermal shutdown to protect itself?

also whats my guarantee that the board doesn't have other issues as its like 6 yrs old

what do you think could be the issue.?

should i replace the fan or just order a new work pc?

suggestions welcome on how to proceed with the repair..lol ordering a new pc is not the most viable solution at this time.

  • compaq presario C700 hangs before BIOS?

i own a compaq presario notebook pc and it has some booting issues.

when you press the power switch it turns on but nothing happens not even the display works. you see all lights light up except the hard disk activity light.

when you plug in an external monitor onto the VGA port it " kickstarts " the LCD screen and both monitors show and it starts to boot up then you can disconnect the external monitor and it works fine.

sometimes when you turn it on it boots up fine the display works fine and it loads windows perfectly-without connecting the external monitor to it-

its not a virus issue cause it does this even when i remove the internal hard disk.

i also flashed the BIOS to the latest revision - from F.24 to F.34.

i also removed the memory and bought NEW kingston 2GB DDR2 PC 6400 RAM

( 800MHZ). so i've covered all my bases.

it came with windows vista 32bit home premium but i downgraded to XP PRO got all drivers and stuff so it's NOT an operating system / drivers issue.

IT had this problem even when vista was installed.

please note i am a Comptia A+ qualified tech and i've done everything i know about.

    suggestions welcome.
