Why is DU used in tank armor?
I can't think of any real reason why DU would be beneficial, but apparently it is used in the Abrams sandwiched in between two plates of steel. I've looked through the first few pages of google, and there's pages and pages on its offensive capabilities but like a total of 5 sentences on its defensive capabilities, which mention its density, but with that argument, then lead would make good armor, which it isn't.

It happens when I come out of hibernation, and I have a feeling it has something to do with my external hard drive (esata).
1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoBlood vessels in sclera (white part of the eye)?
I was wondering if this was normal, or if this is from wearing contacts. I never really looked closely at my eyes, but when i started using contacts, I payed more attention since I had to open my eye more to get the contact lens in. I know when the blood vessels start growing into the corneal area, that means the eyes are being starved of oxygen, but is it normal to have visible blood vessels in the sclera? (mostly on the edges of the visible eye)
2 AnswersOther - Health1 decade agoBubble under contact lens in case?
I was wondering if this caused them to degenerate faster in some way, because it seems like there's a blurry spot in the center of one of my contact lenses, and there aren't any particles on it. I've noticed that sometimes when I put the lens back into the case, there is a bubble that rises to the center, and I was wondering if this could be the cause for the blurry spot.

I want to record at 210, 400 or maybe 1000fps, but when that happens, it gets really dark. I'm thinking about some halogen work lamps.
2 AnswersCameras1 decade agoWhich bike should I get?
I'm looking at the trek 820 and 3500, and possibly the 3700 or 3900. Right now I can't really tell the difference, but the 820 is around 300, and the 3500 is 330. The main difference I see is that the 820 is steel framed, and the rest are aluminum, and that the 3900 has 8 gears rather than 7

Normally, you'd put grooves in the barrel, but it seems like it wouldn't work with a railgun
4 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoMicrowave breaking tv?
So, We have a microwave by our tv, and I guess over time, the tv has been getting worse (greens and purples showing up where they shouldn't be) so, today the tv broke, and it happened while making popcorn. Leaking microwaves doesn't make sense to me right now, because when they hit a metal, it should cause sparks (photoelectric effect), so I think that the microwave and the tv are on the same circuit, so is it possible that the pull caused by the microwave caused a surge which slowly wore down the tv?

4 AnswersPhysics1 decade agoIs this blood pressure reading correct?
My blood pressure is 135/75, which seems sort of odd. I know 135 is high, but would this mean the reading was wrong? (I did it at the Wal-Mart blood pressure checker)
6 AnswersHeart Diseases1 decade agoAccording to US law, would these patents be illegal?
Patenting Human DNA and LED technology.
Recently, a company called orbitec sued another company called pfo for making an aquarium light that used leds for light. Orbitec patented the use of leds in the aquarium, which seems awfully fishy.. Thats like I'm going to go out today and patent the car. Not the engine or specific parts, but patent the car, and no one can make any cars without permission from me or my company.
The same thoughts go with patenting of human DNA.
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoPhysics lab - rubber band bungee cord and a barbie?
Okay, so were doing a lab in class, and I'm wondering if I'm doing this right. We are looking for the number of rubber bands that will get the barbie closest to the ground without hitting the ground.
Okay
Height - 16.5m
Gravity - 9.81m/s^2
Mass of Barbie - .136kg
Height of Barbie - .238m
Spring Constant? 24 N/M
Okay, we took the resting length of the rubber band, and then we took the length for 50g 100g 200g 500g and 1000g. We then found the line of best fit and the slope was the spring constant (k)
The given equation is (k/2n)(L^2*n^2)-2hLn+h^2)-mgh = 0
k is the spring constant
n is the number of rubber bands
L is the length of a unstretched rubber band
h is the original height
m is mass
g is gravity
This equation was derived from Bungee spring PE = PE of Barbie before drop.
1 AnswerPhysics1 decade agoI can't remove the drain flange from my sink?
I'm changing the pop-up assembly, and I've hit a roadblock. I can't remove the flange because either the builders glued/locktighted the flange to the pipes, or its stuck because of rust or something. Because of the securing nut under the sink, I can't get any leverage to turn it, so I don't know what to do. I don't really want to cut off the pipe, but I do have the replacement ready if that is necessary.
8 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoHow much does this recession affect Cuba?
I've been looking for gdp figures on Cuba's bigger trading partners, and I can't seem to find one that reflects this recession upon Cuba. I wanted to use the US, Netherlands, Canada, and Venezuela, and Cuba, or is there a more accurate way to judge the effects of struggling world markets upon Cuba?
