  • Trying to build a budget PC for personal use without sacrificing performance. Please give me options and suggestions?

My family needs another PC; now we only have a laptop and it is hard to share that between all of us. I was thinking about getting a barebone kit and building one myself. My budget is at the most $500. I would like to get the best for that price as well. I would be using it for personal purposes - internet, personal softwares, may be some home studio type recording down the road etc. I need USB, firewire etc. I want to get some suggestions as to what to look for and what to avoid. And also, I would like the computer to be fast.. I hate slow computers.

BTW, I have never built a computer myself, but I am pretty sure if I get some instructions off of the net I can do it myself.

  • What is the best adhesive to stick carpet to plywood boxes?

I am in the process of making some instrument cases out of plywood and carpet. What is the best adhesive that I can use to stick carpet to the outside of plywood boxes? Would the regular carpet adhesive that is sold in Home Depot or Lowes be enough? Thanks.

  • Can I use any headlight on my vehicle or is there any compatibility issue that I need to worry about?

I researched and couldn't find an answer to this problem. I apologize for my ignorance because I have never changed the headlights before. My vehicle is Honda Pilot 2008 and I am going to try to change the headlights by my own. The headlight that I am looking at is this:

Is it compatible with my vehicle?

  • Aluminum pop rivets or wood screws - which will be the best in this case?

I am making a few instrument cases for my music instruments and studio equipments basically to ship them oversees. I need to attach handles and latches to the plywood boxes. I have never used Pop rivets, but I have seen a few places that suggest pop rivets over wood screws. I know the tool costs about $20 at Lowes, which is no problem. But I am not convinced the strength of pop rivets as I don't understand how they hold things together. Can somebody explain the logic or mechanic behind how it holds things together. Also, is it better than using 1/2 or 3/4 wood screws in my case. I will be using about 5-8 on each handle/latch. Thanks.

  • What is the easiest way to cut a rectangular hole on plywood?

I need to cut a hole in the size of 4 in. x 3 in? I have a circular saw and a big blade that I use to cut plywood. I also have a manual saw. I need to cut about 15 of these kinds of holes. What is the easiest way to cut these holes precisely?

  • OSB vs plywood which is better for making instrument cases?

I believe OSB is much cheaper than plywood. I want to try to minimize the cost but make couple of cases for my instruments that can handle the abuse of the aircraft baggage handlers. Is OSB as strong as plywood at 1/2 inch thickness? Which is heavier of the two? Thanks.

  • Is ACX grade plywood stronger than CDX grade plywood?

I am trying to make couple of plywood cases for instruments which can handle the abuse of baggage handlers. I am trying to keep the cost to the very minimum. Having said that CDX plywood is cheaper than ACX or BCX plywoods. I realize that the ACX has one side sanded and the other side pretty rough. And CDX has both sides really rough with knots and holes and all. My question is does this mean that CDX ply will be less stronger than ACX? I am not worried about how the face looks as I am going to be covering the plywood with carpet. Just want to know if CDX is as strong as ACX. Thanks.

  • Which used car is better of the two?

2002 Honda Civic, Power, Sunroof, 5 spd standard, 94K miles, mechanically really good, very clean. However, it has a rust on the body panel right above the door panel extending all the way to the back and on the trunk lid. The seller is saying she had a quote to fix it for $500. Also, I think it would need new timing belt pretty soon.. Asking - $4200 (so you have to add the paint job and the timing belt)

2002 Camaro V6/5 spd, 35th Anniversary edition, 106k miles, mechanically very good, no paint damage, interior is pretty good. I don't think it would need any fixes any time soon. - asking $3200

Which one is better? Reliability? I am just buying it for the next 6-8 months or at the most for a year. Which one do you recommend?

  • Did my eye doctor mess up my eye prescription? My eyeglasses are not comfortable at all.?

I had my eye examined in December for contacts and for glasses. Here are my prescriptions:

Eyeglasses: OD (-2.00 DS) and OS (-1.25-0.50y162) uv 400 AR

Contacts: OD (-2.00) and OS (-1.5)

Are these the same prescriptions? I am specifically looking at the left eye it says -1.5 for contacts and -1.25 for eyeglasses. And my left eye is very uncomfortable with my eye glasses. Could it be that the prescription for my contacts and glasses were different?

  • Cannot get the oil filter out – need advise please…?

I changed the oil in the wife’s accord (2008 2.4L) yesterday. However, I couldn’t get the oil filter to twist out. I tried hands, went to Auto Zone and used two different tools and still couldn’t get it out. I used the cup wrench from Auto Zone and the thing doesn’t fit and it keeps slipping. At this point, I need to change the filter somehow as I have already changed the oil. Can anyone give me some suggestions/advise? Thanks.

  • Should I (can I) exercise today?

I played couple of intense indoor soccer games yesterday (play-off and final) and as a result I pulled a calf muscle at night while sleeping. I also have pain in my right thigh (front, lower, outside part). I have been doing some exercise as a part of a weight loss, endurance goal that I am working on. My question is can I still exercise today without adding any injuries? I really want to exercise today, but am I going to hurt anything, like tear muscles or something? Also, what exercise do you suggest? Basically I want to do something to burn off some calories today..

  • How do you keep cooked turkey for a day?

We are planning the Thanksgiving dinner on the day of Thanksgiving. I have given a turkey to be smoked at a local store. The problem is they will get it done on Thanksgiving eve rather than on Thanksgiving day. What is the best way to keep the turkey from going bad for a day? Will it go bad if I keep it just as it is in the refrigerator? Do I have to let it cool down at room temperature before putting up in the refrigerator? Should I cut it into pieces and then put in the refrigerator? Thanks for the help!

  • Guitar Learning questions?

I have been trying to learn guitar for the past 3 – 4 weeks and it has been a lot of fun. I believe I am going to stick with this for a long time. I have a few questions if I can get some answer/opinion or tips etc. with.

    1. I am practicing chord changes and I am having difficulty. I still have to do one finger after another. Are there any tricks to this or is it just practice? How much practice do I need? I have been putting at least 30 minutes a day – at this rate how long will it take to play the chords without effort?

    2. I have heard that you can lower the action on your guitar to make it little easier on your fingers and improve playability. My guitar’s action is a little bit high – is it worth lowering it? Mainly I am looking for experiences or your opinions…

    3. Please assure me that with practice I will be able to play the chords for songs that I like. I really like to play guitar, but so far I am having a bit of trouble changing chords. I am willing to practice, but am I going to be successful.

    4. I am having a lot of trouble with chord change to a G-chord as my fingers don’t want to move in three to four different directions.. any tips?

    5. Finally, what are the most important chords that I must learn to play decent level? What I know now are C major, D major, A major, G major, Em7, Bm, F#, A minor

    Thanks!!!

  • What kind of Bike do I need to do some weight loss exercise?

I like to lose about 15-20 pounds and I want to do some cycling/biking as a part of the exercises. I have never ridden a bike since I've been in the US. But when I was a teenager and where I lived, I pretty much lived on a bike.. LOL and I was about 40 pounds lesser weight then too... My question is what kind of a bike do I need to start doing some cycling? Will the $100 bikes from walmart do the job or do I have to go for the expensive ones?

  • How do you use a drum machine?

I am kind of new to music and we have a small band for church purposes. The problem is we don't have a good quality drummer. I have heard that a drum machine can accomplish something for us, but what exactly can it do? Does it do drum beats and drum rolls? I am assuming that someone has to sit there and do it manually while the band is performing - is that correct? Please enlighten me on this. Thanks.
