Huge Delima! Need a Mature Opinion! Help!?
Ok so here's the situation. I just graduated high school last weekend, and I am 18 years old. I am a filmmaker and my dream is to be a professional filmmaker/actor (possibly Hollywood one day?). I have an opportunity to crew two short films in the last week of June, but my best friend has scheduled a beach trip on that same week (he's already put down a $300 deposit on the resort). The trip would only cost me $300, which I could make in two weeks at work. The only problem is, I'm not sure whether I want to go on the trip and have a great time with my buddy (did I mention he's going to be going to the Marines in a few months?), or stay and work on these short films?
The pros of going on the trip would be:
1) most likely have a killer time. 2) make a great memory and 3) learn some good life lessons from being on my own for 4 days.
The cons:
1) could get hurt or go to jail 2) it would interfere with my filmmaking 3) my dad doesn't want me to go
I can't decide what I want to do most. Surely somebody can offer some good advice?

I hear a lot of hype about the world ending on Saturday. Is there any truth to this? And what makes people say this?

I am trying to use this song in my short film and I want to find out who to talk to about obtaining the rights to use it. Anybody know?
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoIs it legal to use old 40s music in my movie?
I'm making a short film for entry in festivals and I would like some old-timey 40s music playing in the background. Like some Frank Sinatra or something happy to be playing while a robbery is going on. Does anyone know if this is legal or not?

2 AnswersR&B & Soul1 decade agoHow do they do gunshot effects in movies?
Such as when a bullet hits a windshield, window, the ground, etc. I always thought it was done with animation, but I was watching some behind the scenes on Public Enemies and I noticed when they shoot the windows and stuff they're actually getting bullet holes in them. Do they really shoot them or are they rigged or what?

There was a TV show a few years ago called "On The Lot" that was cancelled after the first season, but I want to either find this on DVD or find somewhere to watch it online. Anyone know where I can find it?
1 AnswerReality Television1 decade agoDoes anyone know where I can find this quick-release plate for my tripod?
I got a Velbon DV-48 tripod with a Vel-flo 8 PH-258 fluid head, but it doesn't have a quick release plate. Does anyone know what model number the release plate is or where I could find one? Thanks a bunch.
2 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoTorn between friendship and business...?
My best friend and I have been making movies together since we were eight years old. We would grab a camera and make a James Bond movie or whatever we wanted, and it was awesome. Now at 17, we're going to make our first professional short film.
I had a great idea for an action/drama that I developed and turned into a script a year ago and now I finally have the equipment to go make it. I told my friend about it to see if he wanted to help, which of course he did, but he went and re-wrote it to be completely different (now a thriller/suspense) and says if I don't use his idea and let him co-direct it he's not going to do it, and he's going to go off and make it by himself.
So I want to make my version but I also don't want to lose my best friend over it. And plus with both of us together we're much more likely to make it big time. It's not that he has a bad idea for a movie, its just that it's a completely different direction that he's taking the story, and I don't like getting ultimatums (which is ironic, because that's the title of the movie).
So I need advice on what to do and how to handle it. Anything will help. Thanks a bunch!
1 AnswerFriends1 decade agoHow many movies came out in 2010?
I'm doing a paper on the best movies of 2010 for school and I need to know how many movies came out in 2010 (movies that were in theaters only) in America.
1 AnswerMovies1 decade agoWould making a short film called "The Ultimatum" be too close to "The Bourne Ultimatum"?
I'm making a short film and I think The Ultimatum would be the perfect title but I'm afraid it will be too much like The Bourne Ultimatum and people will judge my movie unfairly. It's not like Bourne in any way shape or form except it is an action movie.
Here's the synopsis:
When a good-hearted but wreckless teenager is faced with an ultimatum that will decide his fate and the fate of his starving girlfriend and baby, he must chose whether or not to pursue his foolish impulses and his less than moral method of obtaining money, or his moody girlfriend will take their baby and find a new lover.
I think it will be fine but I need some more opinions just to be sure. Thanks!
6 AnswersMovies1 decade agoCould America go into economic ruin and no longer exist within a week?
Ok I'm sure I've got my facts mixed up because I got them from my International Relations teacher and they just seem too horrible to be true. So someone please clear this up for me.
He says that the President of Egypt could be assassinated within the next 24 hours. If this happens Israel will invade Egypt within the next couple of days, the Suez Canal will be closed, making it impossible for oil to reach Europe and the United States. Oil will go up to $200 a barrel and gas will go to $20 a gallon. People won't be able to go to work so the electricity and water companies will close, food stores close, and everyone will kill each other over food and water until we are completely wiped out, thus America as a nation will no longer exist. This is Armageddon type stuff here. If it's true what should we do? Should we get a plane ticket and leave or what? Is it even true or does he have is facts wrong?

2 AnswersOther - Social Science1 decade agoHow can I get police to act in my movie?
I am making a short film to enter in some festivals, and it requires a police officer as a supporting character. I really can't afford to go buy a uniform and fit it to whatever actor I get, and I certainly can't get a car (which is required too) so the best solution is to convince a local police department to let one of their policemen in my movie. I talked to one of the college police officers and he said they're really strict about that, but I still need one.
So how should I go about getting one to be in my film?
2 AnswersMovies1 decade agoWhat should I do to accomplish my goal?
Ok here's the scoop: I am getting kicked out of my house in June because I'm turning 18 and my parents really don't like me, and I need to figure out where I'm going and what I'm going to do to support myself and at the same time work towards my goal.
I'm a filmmaker and actor, and I want to go big time as soon as possible. I'm already acting in some indie films for free and I make short films for festivals and stuff, but I really want to make a feature film and get some recognition, preferably accompanied with some money ;).
So the question is, where should I go, and what kind of job should I get?
