My 2001 Dodge truck is slipping while in 1st gear "DRIVE", but takes off fine if I pull it into 1st gear on the tree and then shift through manually. When I pull to a stop, I can feel the tranny drop out of 2nd into nothing, like it just ran out of pressure. There are no codes coming up on it when checked, and I have maintained fluid and filter. It has intermittenly worked while in "DRIVE" while on rough roads, so I suspect it is possibly something mechanically loose or electronically shorted, but I can't find any good documentation for troubleshooting a Dodge automatic in this year, and I don't know where to start looking. Any ideas what might be wrong or where I might find the info I need? I am mechanically inclined, so technical terms are okay in the replies.

My 12yo son throws a breaking ball, but it is not a traditional curveball or slider. I was wondering if it was a cutter. He starts with his index finger wrapped along the opposite stitching (example if he were gripping a two seam, he would have fingers on left and right seams, he puts his index on the right seam), and his thumb on hide (no seam), ring finger lightly resting on on hide (no seam) and lets it rest loosely in the web of his finger and thumb. He doesn't twist his hand down into a handshake position, which we have been warned against, he finishes with his index and ring finger on top of the ball, and has a complete motion and follow-through, but the thing has an obscene breaking motion and moves on average 60 to 65mph. I have tried to give as much detail as possible, and I hope it's a description that will help in figuring out what he is throwing.

I have a professionally trained 12yo with great mechanics that is experimenting with a breaking pitch. He has exceptional control and shows no discomfort after throwing 5 or 6 in a game. I'm a little concerned with it, but I'm told by several individuals, if he has no discomfort and is using proper mechanics and follow through, he should have no problems. Just looking for some feedback.
