  • Difference between Irish and Scottish Celtic Knots?

I need someone of Irish or Scottish decent (or someone who just happens to know) to tell me if there are any defining differences between traditional Irish and traditional Scottish knot-work. I have been told that they are actually quite different stylistically, particularly in ancient times, but no one I talk to seems to know how.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

  • Irish Gaelic Pronunciations - Written?

Anyone know where I can find a dictionary of Irish Gaelic WITH the phonetic pronunciations of the words?

I can find tons of translation dictionaries what give only the meaning of the word, and I can find pronunciation guides, but that is not what I need. I have a project, in which I use several Irish Gaelic words. In the back, I need to have a list of all the words I've used and the pronunciation of them spelled out for the readers. It needs to be as accurate as possible, which is why I don't feel comfortable figuring out the phonetic spellings for myself. I can only go by what I hear when the word is spoken, and I might not get it exactly right.

What I need is something where I can either put in or find the word I need, and have it give me the proper phonetic spelling. Just like in the English dictionary--there is the word, and next to it is the phonetic pronunciation. That is what I need, just in Irish Gaelic.

And it has to be Irish Gaelic, not Scottish. There is a difference.

    Thanks so much!

  • Irish term or phrase that is equivocal to 'Lionhearted'?

I am looking for a word or phrase in Irish Gaelic that is relativity equivocal to 'Lionhearted' or 'Greathearted'. I have checked online translators, but as the terms are not literal, they don't translate directly, so I was wondering if there was anyone out there who is Irish that may know of something.

    Thanks!

  • Question about Lady Chatterley's Lover?

Okay, a bunch of us are taking a class and we are working on Lady Chatterley's Lover. There is a scene in two of the movies--one from 1981, the other is a BBC TV mini series from 1993--where Connie and Mellors nail two nails into a tree symbolically. It is the same scene in both movies even down to the dialog, and our prof is insisting that is in a version of the book that we all swear it isn't.(DH Lawrence having written several versions of the novel, some published, some not.) If anyone know about the scene to which I am referring, and know where it is in the books--if any, please let me know.

  • The Fallen Series by Lauren Kate?

Can someone who has read all three books that are out thus far give me a basic over view of what we know and don't know thus far? I have to moderate a YA event at our Library this weekend, and having only found out that I had to cover the Fallen event only yesterday, I don't have time to read them all by Sunday. I have done a little research, but since Passion is so new, it's hard to find info. I know the general plot line about the reincarnations and general stuff, but I have also heard a lot of things that may only be theories.

So, I need someone who has actually read the books to tell me what is going on thus far, what we know for sure, what has been implied and what we don't know yet. You can do it as a list, as a summary, I don't care, however it works best for you.

Thanks so much for the help!

  • I need a synopsis for the new Jane Eyre movie...?

Does anyone have or know where I can find a spoiler-style synopsis for the new Jane Eyre movie that came out a few days ago? My husband is trying to arrange a trip for his honors English class to go and see it, but the principals need a writeup of the movie before they can approve the trip. Themoviespoiler.com is usually my go-to for things like this, but since it is a limited release movie, they don't have it. All I can find is a general synopsis which is no more than an overview of the book plot. They need an account of this actual movie, to make sure there is nothing inappropriate I guess...

    Thanks for the help!

  • Is there a marshmallow product that won't expand when heated?

I know marshmallow expand when they are heated, but I have seen them baked into cakes? How would one do that? Freeze the marshmallows? I am at a loss. What about marshmallow ice cream topping? Does that expand when heated? It seem like there would be less air in that so maybe it wouldn't expand as much?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Will running in place help me run?

    Okay, a little back story...

Last year I ran my first race ever. I did a half marathon without training. I mean AT ALL. I finished in just over 3 hours, so I was happy with that considering, but the only problem was my ankles! They hurt so bad I could barely walk for two days. This year and about 4 weeks I am running the same race again, and yet again I haven't trained. ( I have a reason this time though, I had a baby 8 weeks ago.) My husband and I have our anniversary that week and the day after the race we leave for a cruise. I don;t want to be stuck on a deck chair because my ankles are killing me.

I know that the simple answer to this is to train a little so that my ankles and knees can get used to the action of running. The thing is I'm not going to be able to actually run much. I don't plan on running outside as I live in Chicago, and I have a gym membership, but with my husband's travel schedule and having a baby at home, I won't be able to go but a few times before the race. What I do have is a wii and I have a few of the games where you run in place (wii fit, ea spots, etc)

What I want to know is will that help my actual running? I'm not looking for speed, or a better time, or any of that. All I want is for my ankles to feel alright after wards. Will this or anything else that maybe I'm not thinking of help me?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Steroids at 31 weeks, delivery at 34 weeks...?

I had the two steroid shots at 31 weeks and due to major heart problems that I have, my baby will be delivered via c-section at 34 and 5. Will my baby be ok? Obviously she will need to be in the NICU, but over all, should she do all right?

  • Gestational Diabetes and Weight-loss?

I am 32 weeks pregnant and recently found out I have Gestational Diabetes. I am controlling it with a diet plan given to me by my doctor, and everything is going well and under control. My worry is this new diet is causing me to loose a lot of weight. I am eating a ton, but it is basically like being on a low-carb diet, and it is causing weight loss. Now I was not thin to start out; when I was diagnosed at 25 weeks I was at 230, and now I am down to 190. So it's not like I am a bean pole, but I still have two months to go. The doctor says that the baby is doing fine, but I read so much that says any weight loss during pregnancy is bad. Anyone else had this issue? Was the baby ok? Were you?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Combining Pumping and Formula?

Has anyone combined pumping exclusively and formula? I would like to give my baby some breast milk, but I have a nipple issue that will prevent the baby from latching. I have heard of pumping exclusively, but I know it is really hard and time consuming, and I don't want to get overwhelmed and quit. My friend said that her sister combined pumping and formula, and it worked out well, but I was wondering how this would work. Has anyone else done this? How much would I need ot pump? If you are pumping exclusively, you have to pump every 2-3 hours, but if I am using formula as well, wouldn't that be too much breast milk? Just looking for some tips.

    Thanks!

  • Question about C-section delivery with general anesthesia...?

    Hello all,

I am 31 weeks pregnant with my first baby, and I am having some issues with birthing. I have several heart problems like low blood pressure, rapid heart beat, and some other ones that have come back in this last trimester. I have had heart issues almost all my life,(had a pacemaker implanted when I was 19) so this is not a shock, but it has created some problems with delivery. My cardiologist and my ob can't seem to agree on what is best. They agree that we need a c-section at about 36 - 37 weeks, but can't seem to decide what is best for anesthesia. They seem to be leaning towards general but I have heard over and over that general isn't safe for the baby, that they can be born asleep, and have problems breathing ect. I have never even heard of a planned c-section with general anesthesia before, I thought that was only used for emergency c-sections. Has anyone had general anesthesia before? Was it planned or emergency? Can it be safe for the baby? Will I be out of it the whole day? Is recovery any longer?
