  • Following people on Twitter I didn t follow?

I ve been looking at my Twitter account for the first time in years, and I m finding that I m following a lot of people that I can t imagine I d follow. Being a right-of-center moderate, I have no idea why I d be following Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Mazie Hirono, Kristen Gillibrand, Dianne Feinstein, Kamala Harris, Mark Warner, Sheldon Whitehouse, Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi, Dick Durbin, and numerous others. Odd that this has never happened with any conservatives - only liberal lawmakers and media personalities. For anyone knowing more about Twitter than me (which is basically anyone), is this a thing?

  • Is the "gun show loophole" a misnomer?

It refers to transactions involving firearms between private individuals. Yes, they happen at gun shows. They also happen in garages of homes between neighbors. Also, outside the gun range after target shooting among workplace acquaintances. And, in living rooms among extended family during holiday get-togethers. Also, among handgun owners looking to trade for a rifle and rifle owners looking to trade for a handgun who find each other online through any number of websites. Actually, they also occur a lot between would-be stick-up guys and addicts looking for their next fix, so couldn't we just as easily say that such transactions were enabled by the "crackhouse loophole"? I've purchased several firearms at gun shows, but have yet to do it without being subject to (and passing) a background check. I'm guessing that there would be no such obstacle outside any local crackhouse, so shouldn't this terminology be modified? Wouldn't it make more sense to regulate transactions and require background checks at crackhouses?

  • If George Zimmerman is a "white hispanic", then...?

Doesn't that make President Obama a "white black" (or "white African-American" for those still stuck on meaningless labels)? Is it too much to ask for consistency?

  • Why are firearm owners so leery of more gun control?

Could it be because of people like this?

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/03/diana-deg...

Are all politicians and activists driving the current gun control movement this hypocritical, arrogant, ignorant, and incompetent?

  • Is this an indication that sanity will finally return?

Now that Harry Reid has said that there will not be enough votes to pass a new "assault weapons" ban in either house of congress, and even Dianne Feinstein acknowledges that her bill is hopelessly dead in the water, how long do you think it will be before things return to how they were? Will the bottom fall out of this artificially inflated market, or am I justified in being apprehensive that this may be the new normal?

  • Kel Tec Sub 2000 safety issue and other questions?

I just bought a .40 caliber Kel Tec Sub 2000 a couple of days ago, and I'm having a problem with it. Every time a round is fired, the safety flips itself on, and I have to manually switch it back to hot again. I fired 50 rounds through it, and the same thing happened each time. Has anybody else had this issue or heard about anything similar?

I left Kel Tec customer support an email and got receipt notification, so hopefully the issue will be addressed soon. Assuming that's the case, I noticed that even with the safety issue as well as an original sight and a bare bones barrel shroud that are all clearly destined to be replaced (and several useful accessories added), I can see how this ugly thing could easily become my new favorite firearm, as it felt great to shoot, I could hardly miss with it, it can share ammo and magazines with my Glock 22 and 27, and when I'm finished I can fold it up, put it into an unobtrusive backback, and be on my way (I'm CCW licensed in my state, so deal with it). I was just curious to hear from other 2000 owners and see what their feelings were after their first tryouts.

Finally, is this firearm on Feinstein's new list? I think I may have read that it is, and if so, I don't know why. It came with a 10-round magazine, but because it accepts Glock mags, and there exists a 22-round Glock mag (and maybe an even bigger aftermarket one that may only be an urban legend), does it satisfy the "10 round max" criteria through the transitive property? I read that it was originally designed to get around the original 94-04 ban, but was curious if the "folding stock" criterion has been extended to "folding gun", or if it was just added out of spite, general principles, or the new "the thing just looks scary/I know it when I see it/it looks like it would do a lot of damage in a movie" arbitrary justifications. I'm guessing that they're just making all this up as they go.

  • Firearms - straw purchase or gift?

I live in Tennessee, and have relatives in Missouri, Alabama, and Florida, all of whom enjoy guns and were pleased to learn that this reformed liberal now does as well, and any of whom at some point may want to buy me a firearm as a birthday/Christmas gift. As a practical consideration, I understand that it would be better for them to give money instead and let me purchase it, but they're old school in that they all prefer to buy gifts themselves and give them personally (so it goes without saying that they wouldn't be making any purchases from budsgunshop.com). If one of them does this, though (and I'm pretty sure they all have done it at some point in the past), does that mean they've simply given a gift the old fashioned way, or does it make them straw purchasers in the eyes of the law? I mentioned the states above because these are among the ones that have concealed carry reciprocity (I think, although I'd better find out for sure before my next visit), and didn't know if that has any bearing on the situation (doubtful, I know).

  • Question about cleaning a Mossberg 715T .22 rifle?

I have gotten into shooting in the last year, and I have a Glock 22, a Springfield XDM 9mm, and an S&W VE40 (which I still like shooting regardless of the bad press) that I clean and oil on a regular basis. I was at a gun show a couple of weeks ago deciding what my first rifle would be, and after looking at wildly overpriced .223 rifles (that people were were still buying for $2,300-2,500), I came across a Mossberg 715T. It looked like the kind of thing that haunts Diane Feinstein's darkest nightmares, but of course it's just a .22 rimfire rifle. And, because it had a $249 price tag on it, I grabbed it before thinking about it.

I couldn't wait to try it, and after a little disappointment (I'm used to firearms saying "boom", but of course, this one being a .22, it just kinda clears its throat), I had fun shooting it... until I got halfway through the first magazine, when it jambed up, and it continues to do so, at least once at some point in each full magazine load. Now I learn that I probably should have cleaned it before trying it out, so cleaning is my next step.

Now that the biography is finished, here's my question: does anybody know how difficult it would be for an absolute beginner to take it apart enough to clean it (if not the whole thing, at least from the magazine load to the barrel). I know there are numerous screws to remove in order for the "scary" parts to come off, but how difficult is it beyond that point?

Also, two other related questions: any idea where I could find additional magazines, and does anybody know if this rifle is on Feinstein's latest ban list (I'd doubt it, but it'd be kinda funny if it was)?
