  • Graphics card opinion question?

Should I go ahead and get a Radeon 6750 right now for $50, or should I wait a couple of months, save some cash back, and get a GTX650? I know my current graphics card (GF8600GTS 512MB) won't make up the difference in price between the two, and I'll be lucky to sell it for $20.

The big thing is I want to be able to play GTA IV at 1080p. 848x480 looks like I'm playing it on an XBox 360.

  • What's it worth? (In US Dollars, please)?

I've had this computer for a while now, and I'm really thinking about selling it. I don't really need something sitting around that's just collecting dust most of the time.

    Here's the hardware list -

Pentium Dual-Core E5300 with aftermarket cooler

    Gigabyte EP43-DS3L motherboard

    G.Skill 4GB (2x2) DDR2-1066 (PC2-8500) RAM

GeForce 8600 GTS graphics (either EVGA or XFX branded card)

    WD Blue 500GB hard drive

    USB 802.11N 150mbit wifi adapter

    Sony SATA DVD±RW DL drive

Diablotek Diamond case with six 120mm fans installed

Inland Gold 500 watt power supply (I know, it's cheap, but it works)

Keyboard, mouse, DVI>HDMI, DVI>VGA, power cord

So if you were going to sell it on Craigslist, what would you list it for?

  • Viewing live high-def video over Firewire on a Mac from a cable box?

I know that you can change channels and record the MPEG2 TS video that comes out of the back of cable boxes already, and I've been doing that for a while (fair rights usage makes it legal, too) thanks to Firewire SDK23. I've also found an application that lets me use my Mac as a DVR (iRecord). Now, since I have a shiny new iMac 24" (aluminum and black), I'm thinking about using it as my bedroom TV set, but haven't found an application that lets me view live video fed through Firewire. an external DV box isn't a good option either, because high-def HDV conversion boxes are too expensive and don't deal with Macrovision encoding very well, and I don't want to have a SDTV picture on a 1920x1200 display.

Just to let you know, I've already tried QTBroadcaster and any number of FW cam browsers...they don't work for this purpose. Macam doesn't either.

If anyone knows of anything that will work, that would be awesome. Thanks.
