  • Yearling Horse & Hire trainer - How Expensive?

    I've always wanted a horse, I'm 31 now & have limited hands on experience. I have the property & now am trying to decide how to proceed. I want a horse for pleasure, not for show or speed. Honestly - I could simply look at the horse and groom it & feed it & be absolutely in heaven. I could ride an old gelding at no more than a shuffle and be blissful! BUT... my husband wants a horse we can "share" and he is of a faster pace than myself.

    So, I would like to purchase a yearling and hire a trainer to break to ride. Is there a reason this would be a bad idea?

    How much can I expect to spend (in the IL/IA mid-west) for a horse trainer per month?
