Issues with a bass clarinet?
I'm going to tell you my story.
I started playing mallet percussion last December, and made my way into high school band the next school year, still playing mallets for marching season. In October, the clarinet section had a dilemma. The told me they didn't have a bass clarinet for concert season, so I volunteered and have been playing the instrument ever since.
The bass clarinet I play is a Vito I do believe. It belongs to the band hall and I'm not sure of it's age, but it looks relatively new. I play on a Vandoren #3 reed currently. I'm not sure what brand mouthpiece. I recently tightened the screws, but my issues started before that.
I picked up the bass quickly, and at first, of course, I ran out of air quickly, but by the time we really started playing. The first song I played was Delmar Celebration, which we are still playing every day in band. I had trouble initially, but I caught on quick, and soon could perform as well as any other clarinetist. But last week, about halfway through the week, I noticed I couldn't play my C (Thumb-1-2-3, Below the staff) or any note below that without squeaking terribly or jumping up into the next octave (as if I was holding the register key). Any other note D (Thumb-1-2) or higher (Including up into the third octave) plays fine, but requires much more air than any note usually does.
In the time since I began playing.
Whenever I take it into the director's office and play for him, it mysteriously starts playing normally again. I have been in there four times to seek help. I've checked my embouchure, and nothing is wrong. I've checked my reed and my ligature, and I've also checked to make sure than none of the buttons stick, and none of them do. Nothing seems to be the matter with this bass clarinet, and I can't image that it's me, because I've been playing fine for months.
This bass clarinet has a history of being a problem for past players, so I don't know... I'm just confused about the whole deal.
What do you think the problem is?

I'm having trouble hitting the higher (above B in the staff) notes on a Bass Clarinet. Any advice on how to make these sound good. I have a Christmas concert coming up, and I have to hit that C just above the B.

5 AnswersRock and Pop9 years agoI need fun music to listen to!?
I want really fun bands or artists that are kinda indie, alternative, folk, pop, rock, soul, maybe almost jazzy? They don't have to meet those requirements exactly, but I just want bands that don't do all these sad songs... I have 1800 songs on my iPod, but most of them are slow, and like, ahh... I love them, I really do, but I just want FUN music! (No, not the band Fun. I don't like them) XD

4 AnswersRock and Pop9 years agoNew Music to Listen to?
That was an awkwardly phrased question XD
Well, anyway, some artists I have know the longest...
Sara Bareilles and V V Brown. I suppose the soulful elements in the music captivated my mind a few years back. Most music was a turn off for me when I was 10. I could never really get interested, until Love Song and Shark In the Water were the singles of the week on iTunes.
Three later, after going listening to basically, just those two, I have discovered several artists since the beginning of the year, and I found Amy Winehouse last May. Some of my newer artists include...
Ingrid Michaelson, Sharon Van Etten, Fiona Apple, A Fine Frenzy, Mumford & Sons, Regina Spektor, and BOY (the ones from Europe)
Now, my friends can't relate to my music (they all have One Direction Infection >.>) so I came here.
Some of the ones people might not expect that I listen to are...
Alanis Morissette, Hey Monday, and P!nk.
Other artists I listen to are...
Birdy, Missy Higgins, Tegan and Sara, Lydia, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Norah Jones, Nerina Pallot, Duffy, Lana Del Rey, Laura Marling, and Gin Wigmore.
I want you (finally, the question!) to suggest artists you think I might like, based on my current musical trends! I prefer music with female vocals, though I like Coldplay and Damien Rice.

3 AnswersRock and Pop9 years agoA few piano questions for the self-taught masteres?
1.)
What's a good way to get started on the piano fast? I am self teaching myself, and I'm thinking that I'll try to compose something short and original, so I'll be able to familiarize myself. I don't want any online sheet music, cause either it uses one hand, which I can already do on my own, or it is way to complex for a beginner.
2.)
After I get comfortable with guitar and piano, I want to learn another instrument, but what? I can already play Marimba, Snare and Bass Drum, Recorder, and kinda Guitar, so what next?

So, I want to listen to more music along these lines...
Katie Herzig
Fiona Apple
Amy Winehouse
Sara Bareilles
Ingrid Michaelson
Jenny Owen Youngs
Regina Spektor
P!nk
Lana Del Rey
V V Brown
Hey Monday
Coldplay
Try to avoid male singers. Most male singing voices make me cringe. It's not that their bad, I just don't really... I don't know XD
Please try to base answers off of stuff above, cause I'm not going to listen to any heavy metal or post rock or rap... not music you like, necessarily, but music you think I'd like please.

Maybe somewhere in the Jazz, R&B, Folk, Anit-Folk, Soul, or Indie Rock genera.
A clear voice, maybe a little rough around the edges.
I don't want anything too mainstream, and I try to avoid people who do not write their own lyrics.
I love Amy Winehouse, Regina Spektor, Gin Wigmore, V V Brown, Sara Barielles, and Ingird Michaelson.
I HATE ADELE!
