Training a 4 month old aviary bred cockatiel?
Hi,
I am considering getting a cockatiel and I have found a breeder selling some aviary bred that are 4 months old. I have tamed birds before, two conures and a galah but I have never had a cockatiel before and as they have a shorter life span maybe they are harder to train after a certain age? Any tips on keeping cockatiels? What is their average lifespan? How difficult are they to train as opposed to larger parrots?
Any knowledge you have on them or smaller parrots in general will be very much appreciated,
Thank you!!

My mum was trying to teach me to make a bed, someone knocked at the door so she went to get it and told me while she was gone I had to put the pillow slip on by myself. I completely misinterpreted and when she came back after a huge struggle I was in the pillow slip.

8 AnswersPolls & Surveys8 years agoWhen can I start giving my indian ring neck parrot water?
Hi,
I am hand raising an indian ring neck parrot and I was instructed not to give him water as the water in the hand raising formula would be enough. I have been feeding him vegetables and fruit as well as the formula as recommended and recently he has been filling up on fruit and vegetables and flatly refusing to eat the hand raising formula. I have tried limiting his fruit and vegetables but it makes no difference how hungry he gets, even when he eats the formula he doesn't eat much. I've tried mixing it with things he likes; oat meal, banana, even honey and he still just wants to eat fruit and vegetables. As we have been having some really hot days (30+) I am worried he isn't getting enough water. He is roughly ten weeks old now (not entirely sure) can I give him water yet?
3 AnswersBirds9 years agoMy guinea pig hates her back being touched?
I've had guinea pigs almost my whole life and recently bought myself a sheltie sow, I haven't owned a long hair before. The breeder sold her to me because she couldn't show her as every time wraps were put in her coat she'd get really scared and jump around (almost like she had mites). I took her home and everything was fine for a while until she went in her sleeping bag and started jumping around again. I treated her for mites and expected the strange jumping to go away. When I brushed her she got really upset and tried to bite at one point. Generally she is really friendly, she curls up on my lap like a cat and loves scratches on her head and shoulders but the minute you touch a hair on her lower back she freaks out. I've had a few guinea pig experts look her over to see if their is anything physically wrong and their isn't, apparently it's just a behavior problem. I asked her owner about it a few weeks ago and she told me to rough her up a bit, ignore the complaining and treat her like a ragdoll. I tried this to an extent but she seems really distressed. I wouldn't worry if she was a short coat but she need to be brushed often and I feel really bad for her being so scared. Is there anything I can do to stop her from being like this other than scaring her more?
