Helping my daughter sleep while teething?
My one year old daughter is currently cutting 4 teeth at once and I'm pretty sure all of them are molars, it's hard to tell for sure because of the spacing of the teeth she already has and I can't get a really good look. Anyway, as you can imagine she's in pain, running a low grade fever and is having trouble sleeping.
Before she would go down about 8 or 8:30 and fell asleep pretty quickly and slept through the night. The last few nights she's been waking up in the middle of the night and not wanting to go back to sleep. She seems to want to get down and play. The first two nights I discouraged this and just held her which seemed to work, she was able to sleep while I held her but wouldn't stay asleep for more than maybe 2 hours after I tried to lay her back down but usually not even that long. I wasn't getting much sleep but we'd been through worse so I felt I could handle it. The third night we went through the same thing until about 3 am and then she refused to go back to sleep, but would still let me just hold her. Last night though was horrible. She fell asleep about 9:30 and woke up at 11:30 and refused to go back to sleep. She cried no matter what. She'd had some tylenol earlier and it wasn't time for more. She didn't want to be held and didn't want to lay down. She cried constantly whether I held her or not. She rejected cold teething rings, a bottle of cold juice, and a bottle of warm milk. I know I shouldn't have but I just couldn't take it anymore and I let her play basically until she was so exhausted she couldn't go on anymore and finally wanted to crawl into my lap and go to sleep (about 2 am).
This can't be good for either of us and basically, I can't take another night like this. I feel exhausted and completely at my wits end. I don't know how to help her sleep, rocking her doesn't seem to work until she's well past the point of exhaustion, pain medication doesn't seem to help. I don't know what else to try. Any advise. Could there be something wrong unrelated to the teething that I'm missing?
5 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoplaylist for a birthday party?
My daughter's first birthday is in a few weeks. We are doing a barbeque in our backyard, very casual. I want some good music that is upbeat and family appropriate to have in the background but I don't want anything overly "kid-y" because most of the guests will be adults. Any suggestions?

My daughter's first birthday is next month and we are having her pictures taken next week to pass out at her party. Anyone got any cute ideas?
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoHow many steps should a person take in a day?
I bought a pedometer because I have a job where I sit at a desk all day. My hope it that tracking my steps will make me more aware of them and encourage me to get up and move more at work. But I'm having trouble setting a daily goal. What should I shoot for? Should I increase it over time? Any thoughts?
5 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoCan anyone recommend good reference material for grammar and writing mechanics?
I'm writing a blog and I'll be doing most of my writing away from home. I was wondering if anyone can recommend some websites or a "pocket" guide to grammar, the proper way to site sources, etc. My blog topic is a top five in a wide variety of topics, I want to make sure I'm siting my sources properly. I'm using this as an way to improve my writing and I figure that includes improving my grammar, punctuation, etc as well. Any website suggestions or books that won't be too cumbersome to carry around in my computer bag?
5 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoIs anyone surprised Lovie Smith still has a job?
Not that I think Smith is the problem in Chicago but I really thought after acquiring Cutler if the team didn't make the playoffs Smith would be the scapegoat and get fired. Any thoughts?
8 AnswersFootball (American)1 decade agoIs it bad for my 8 1/2 month old daughter to roll over onto her tummy when she sleeps?
When I put my daughter to sleep I lay her on her back, but she rolls around A LOT in her sleep. Lately when I go in to check on her or get her up in the morning, she's on her stomach. It worries me because sometimes she'll sleep face down but with her forehead on her arm. I don't want to move her and wake her but I want her to be safe when she sleeps. Is it okay for her to sleep on her stomach since she can roll over and move around really well now?

I want to make my own whipped cream for a pie, but I have no idea how. Any help or advice?
6 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoWhen did you remove the baby monitor from your childs room?
My daughter is 8 months old so she's obviously way too young to remove the monitor and I probably wouldn't consider it before she was 2 or 3, but I was thinking about it and I don't really know at what age the baby monitor is typically done away with.
9 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoMy 6 month old absolutely hates taking a bath....?
I've tried cooler water and warmer water. I've tried in a baby tub and in the sink. I've even tried getting in the bathtub and holding her while I wash her. I've had my husband try to distract her with toys while I wash her. Nothing makes her happy. She just cries until you take her out of the water. Bath time is so stressful for all of us. Any suggestions?
8 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoLet's break up the monotony! What trade do you hope you team makes....?
this off season? What player/players do you want to see go and who would like in exchange for them? If you want to think realistically that's fine but total fantasy answers are acceptable as well.
4 AnswersFootball (American)1 decade agoWhen did you wean your child off a pacifier?
I read that 3 months is an ideal time to do it. My daughter is 4 months and I still give her a pacifier, generally when she is tired but not hungry. It helps her go to sleep. She doesn't seem to want it any other time, though. So I'm not sure I should take it from her just yet. But I've seen children who are walking and talking well enough to form complete sentences with pacifiers and I have to believe it would be much harder to wean a child that old off of them so I want to avoid that. At what age did you take away a pacifier and how did you do it?
8 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoHitch or Ditch - Coaches Edition...?
The boss is on vacation and I feel like sluffing off so I'm going to ask a question mostly to entertain myself. With so many coaches on the hot seat I wanted to see if there was a general concession about who should go and who should get another season. Tell me hitch or ditch on the list below. Feel free to abstain if you don't know enough to make a decision.
1) Notre Dame - Charlie Weis
2) Washington Redskins - Jim Zorn
3) Oakland Raiders - Tom Cable
4) Cleveland Browns - Eric Mangini
5) Wild Card - Who really needs to go but isn't on this list or who deserves another shot but probably won't get it.
7 AnswersFootball (American)1 decade agoCooking a turkey....?
I was watching Food Network Challenge last night, the challenge was Thanksgiving feasts. One of the teams soaked cheese cloth in a mixture of melted butter and white white. It was suppose to help keep the turkey moist but let the skin brown really well. Anyone ever done this? What are the proportions of butter to wine?
2 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoCan my employer force me to start maternity leave early?
I'm pregnant and my due date is tomorrow. When I turned in my FMLA paperwork to my employer I was required to put a start date, I was told to use a date close to my due date and it could be modified if that was necessary. So I turned the paperwork in saying my leave would start today. Last Friday, I went to my boss to make sure that if I did not have my baby over the weekend there would not be a problem with me continuing to work until I did. He called the HR department while I was in his office to check and was told it would not be a problem, all that needed to be done was to send them an email when I did have the baby and that would be the day my leave started.
On Saturday, I got a call from my boss saying the owner of the company did not want me to come in today and to check in after my doctors appt today. For a variety of reasons, I believe my employer is going to try to force me to start my leave early. My doctor does not believe there is any reason I cannot continue to work and I want to save my leave time to spend with my new baby. Can my employer force me to start leave early if there is no medical reason I cannot work?
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoCan I get internet service in my house without getting a home phone line?
I haven't had a home phone in years and I'm not really interested in getting a land line simply to get internet service. My laptop has wireless internet capabilities. I can't seem to find a wireless internet provider that doesn't require you to have a home phone line. Can anyone offer some help?
4 AnswersComputer Networking1 decade agoShopping for new baby...?
I'm having my first baby in July. My husband and I are trying to put together our registry and get everything prepared for our new arrival. Most things I'm feeling pretty good about but the bottle aisle has proven quite scary. This one is BPA free, that one is curved to prevent air bubbles, this one is glass so there is no chemical contamination...
I don't know what any of that means or what's best. I do plan to breastfeed but I know I'll need some bottles as well. Anyone got a good website I can go to sort out all this info? One that will give impartial facts not lead me towards one product or another. Thanks!
10 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoWhat are some good ways to better manage my finances?
I just got a new job, which comes with increased income. I want to use this as an opportunity to really understand where my money goes. I'm not bad with my finances but I'm not excellent either. I don't have much debt other than student loans (no credit cards, or high interest loans, etc.) I don't pay bills late, I have a good credit score and I don't live pay check to pay check. But I also can be pretty lax about tracking my checkbook and expenses. I would really like to increase the amount of savings I put away and pay extra to my student loans. I really feel I'm not going to have a true understanding of my financial picture until I put it all in black and white, so I'm making a commitment to myself to keep better track of it. I've set up some spreadsheets to track my expenses, a budget and my checkbook, but I'm not sure that is enough. Anyone have any tips to help keep me on track or common pitfalls to avoid?
3 AnswersPersonal Finance1 decade agoWhy would a coach throw the challenge flag if a play is not reviewable?
It doesn't happen very often but every now and then a coach will throw the red flag on a play that isn't reviewable. Is there a reason for that? What makes a play not reviewable? Is it cut and dry or is there room for speculation, does it change based on certain factors? Is the play still reviewable by "the booth?"
I just thought I might throw out a question that hasn't been beaten to death. That and I really want to know!
Thanks in advance!
6 AnswersFootball (American)1 decade agoSteelers fans, what's the history on the Terrible Towel? How did this come about?
I think it's one of the most iconic fan symbols in NFL football but I've often wondered how waving a towel became a symbol of fanhood. Is there a story behind it?
