  • We just started Torchwood on Netflix, should we watch Dr Who first?

We actually found the Torchwood miniseries Children of Earth first and after watching that, we became interested in the Torchwood series itself so went back to season 1. However, even within the first few episodes there were several scenes that seemed to be coming from a previous series so we looked it up & found out that it all originated from Dr. Who. Now, we've never watched that series, tho as a kid myself I'd seen a few of the older, originals, but nothing within the last few decades. So my question is this, should we go back & watch Dr. Who on Netflix etc. before continuing with Torchwood? Is there going to continue to be things alluded to, such as past relationships or past characters/crimes/plots that were all part of the Dr. Who world? Or is Torchwood truly a stand alone series? I mean, I know that we CAN watch it by itself & that they'd probably do just fine like that, but will it leave big gaps or unfinished plots if we don't watch the other series?

    Thanks all!

  • Has anyone actually taken fish antibiotics, such as Fish Flex, Fish Mox, etc for personal use?

I have recurring sinus infections that I take Cephalexin 500 mg 4 times a day for, period. Sometimes they change it up and give me Cefprozil or even Bactrim, but it's always the same symptoms.

I don't have insurance so even though you can buy Cephalexin very cheap it costs way too much to have to go in to a clinic, see the dr, have them order blood work to verify an infection, etc all to just get a prescription for the exact same thing that is already in my history over 30 times in the last 40 years.

There is not a close alternative to the clinic dr., (no free clinic within close enough distance), so to get a prescription has to be this much money. So I'd like to find an alternative.

Obviously most of us have heard the preppers talk about stocking up on these types of fish/pet antibiotics for human use, but I'd like to hear from someone that isn't just stocking them up, but has actually taken them themselves.

Exactly what brand, type did you take?

How much did you use each day & for how many days?

Did you just swallow the capsule/pill like a regular human med or did you open the capsule & mix it with food or water?

Did you have to take any other supplements with it to make it work better, or avoid any supplements or medications etc?

Did you have any different symptoms or reactions to taking this than taking the human variety?

How many times have you used these for infections?

Will you continue to use them, and if not, please explain why?

And is there any alternative to pain meds, something that will stop a severe sinus/dental infection's pain, which honestly feels like someone is trying to drive a spike into my face! I have my own meds on hand but am going to go thru them much faster than I should if I can't get this infection & pain under control, so is there an alternative to pain meds that can be gotten otc like the fish antibiotics? I'm not wanting something to get high with, but rather something to block the pain perhaps or atleast mute it to a tolerable level.

And ofcourse, anything else that you can think to tell me.

    Thanks!

  • How to decorate a girls room with wooden paneling that can't be painted?

We just got a room for my daughter who's about to be 10 & I'd like to figure out a way to decorate it so that she can love it, be proud of it, be so happy with me for doing it this way, and want to show it to all her friends.

The room is small, (we built it in our dining area), it's only 5'4" x 7'4" and it has to remain the neutral/brown/paneling colors because we're going to resell within 2 years.

I'd like some ideas on what we could do, without permanently altering the room to the point it'd have to be redone when we resell.

I know she'd love a pink room or everything Monster High or pink zebra stripes etc, just like most girls her age nowadays, but we have to leave the brown paneling & tan walls.

What characters or designs would match brown paneling!?

I thought about getting Monster High vinyl clings to put on the tan wall, but really there's not alot of Monster High stuff that would go with brown paneling, it's all vibrant pink & purple & blues on black.

I got her this bed: http://www.afwonline.com/furniture/youth-furniture... from craigslist & only paid $20 for everything, even the mattress. We're not going to use the bottom bed since the room is too skinny, and I thought about repainting the furniture to help decorate the room.

The only Monster High character that really has alot of brown/tan is Clawdeen. I could use the brown/tan/black cheetah looking print for a wallpaper border.

I also thought I could get some of the Monster High posters or even the table cloths & use them like a big wall mural. They wouldn't damage the walls & I could probably pretty much cover the paneled walls and perhaps use scarves or something to border around the edges.

I know there are huge wall decorations already, but I have to do this with pretty much no budget, so mostly I'm bartering other items or selling something or looking for free stuff or repurposing everyday stuff, like with using the table cloth etc.

On one wall she had a huge mirror set atop the normal paneled cabinets that usually fill a dining area, so on that side I can put clings on the mirror and maybe hang stuffed animals around it, or do the scarves to make it match the walls.

My biggest block is the darn color scheme.

I don't know, what else can I do here?

I could probably put wallpaper on the one tan wall, as long as it blended okay with the paneled walls, so it could be like brown stripes with tan hearts or something, and I could definitely use a brown/tan cheetah throw rug or comforter set.

    What else, any ideas?

  • We've lost insurance so are looking at buying meds in Mexico?

Our insurance has discontinued their service. We're allowed to apply for a new charity service but it will be 10-12 weeks before it begins to go through for everyone and we will need refills of our meds before that 3-4 months time is up.

We've already contacted our current drs offices & because we were just seeing routine interns & PAs, they said we'd have to come back in to do bloodwork & a heart echo for him & bloodwork & an updated liver ultrasound for me before they can refill the scripts, even though we explained the insurance problem.

So now we're trying to figure out how to get all our meds at once, and atleast a 12 week supply, without taking out a loan for these dr visits & med fees.

    Specifically we're looking at :

    -Lyrica,

    -Protonix,

    -Vicodin or Lortab,

    -Tramadol,

    -Metformin and Glyburide,

    -Celebrex,

    -Tricor,

    -Dicyclomine,

    -Sucralfate,

-Simvastatin, and a couple others I can't remember at the moment.

If anyone has gotten these specific meds from Mexico, please tell me exactly what you had to do at the border to cross, while in Mexico, including how much everything cost, and at the border on the way back. Please include limits on the meds, like how many we should get the scripts made for, how many we're allowed to take back, etc. And if you use a specific dr or pharmacists over there, please include info on that if you could.

Also, what about insulin? Is that even a possibility there, or test strips?

What do we need to take his insulin across the border anyway, just into Mexico, does he have to have a script with him to prove he needs the needles too?

And antibiotics? Do you have to take bloodwork or urine tests to prove your need? (I routinely take antibiotcs because of a perforated duct & chronic cystitis I think the word is?) I need sulfas like Bactrim that the dr has me take until we can arrange a surgery, & I know we've been on amoxicillin and another one but can't remember what it is. What's the limit on antibiotics?

And is it possible to get the kind of shots that they use for the arthritis, (I get them in my knees like a lubrications stuff, steriod ones in one foot, one shoulder, & my spine), or is that too dangerous to even consider getting over there?

Also, I know you can get the generic Tamiflu over there, how does that work? Is it just OTC and what are the limits on something like that?

Some of these meds are expensive here & some are cheap, but besides a local free clinic here that isn't allowed to write scripts for narcotics at all, or do any of the shots, there's no way we can afford to do our usual dr visit fee which is $380 for each visit & that's not including their charges for labwork or xrays or when they do the arthritis shots, etc.

Has anyone been to Mexico recently for any of these meds?

I know there's such a thing as "med buses" that are usually filled with senior citizens going together for their meds but we've never gone & don't know how to go about that either.

What about dental work? Is that still cheaper over the border & how should we go about stuff like that? Is dental insurance dealt with in Mexico or is everything cash?

I know there are cheap dental insurances available to purchase but don't know anything specific about them and definitely not whether they'd be taken in Mexico.

Thank you to anyone who can answer some of our questions.

We didn't expect our current insurance to just drop like that; we were approved until August 2013 & just got the notice that it had been discontinued as of January 1st.

We've got current bottles for most, if not all of these meds, but I don't have the physical prescription paper anymore, (well actually I've never had a paper because the dr office just sends it in electronically nowadays), so would I have to take all of our bottles with us & do we have to count how many pills are still in each bottle when we declare going into Mexico? Do they have to see those bottles coming back too, even if we just showed the empty ones to the pharmacy?

Also, do you have to show the "proof of bypass" card from cardiology to cross the border? My husband's chest is literally wired & plated back together so he sets off the metal detector at airports/schools/six flags etc & he had a card that he had to show but we'd have to go back to the dr to get an updated one of those too.

Thank you, I'm quite flustered with all of this, so would appreciate some help.

  • Does a Habitat for Humanity home come furnished in any way, appliances, etc?

We're going to apply for a home at the next meeting, but I wanted to know ahead of time what all comes in the home.

We lost everything to a fire & have been in a small rv for months until just recently getting in a small mobile home, (only 2 bd when we need 4-5), so a home would be great.

We work & pay bills & qualify $ wise & the sweat equity would be no problem, so I'm not concerned with the application process or stuff like that. We even own the burned home, land & all, so there wouldn't be any land payment added to the mortgage.

I just wondered what all actually comes in the house.

    * Is it completely finished inside?

    * Do they include appliances, heat & cooling units, etc.?

    * Do they offer pkgs that actually furnish the home, like with beds etc.?

    * Do they only build certain blueprints or can you decide anything on the home, like if you want the bedrooms clumped together or seperated etc?

    * What about colors?

    * How basic are the designs, such as do they only have bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, & living room or do they have utility rooms, pantries, & dining rooms too?

    * Do they do anything to the yard, like fences etc? (ours burned with the house)

    * Can you determine your energy source for the house, like can you decide if you want natural gas or electric for your stove, etc?

    * Do they do "green homes"?

    * What about under the houses, the pipes & stuff in the ground, (ours are very old clay & would have to be upgraded per city code for us to rebuild or repair), do they add the cost of digging up all the old utility stuff onto the cost of your house? (I know they have to run new lines & foundations on all of them, but what about that old stuff being removed?)

    * Do they do basements or attics or garages?

And I guess the most important question is, the sweat equity that you accrue, how is it calculated? * Do they count each hour at a specific rate, like at minimum wage or something, then take it off your mortgage like real $, instead of a wage kinda thing?

(I don't understand that part except that there's a minimum of 300 hours at our local chapter.)

    * What about if we have 10 friends that all put in 100 hours each, does that count as 1000 hrs off our mortgage or are they just counted as volunteers & only our hours count?

    * How old do you have to be for your hours to count, like if our 9, 11, 15, & 16 yr old help does that count?

    * And what about AFTER our house is built & we're in it, can we still do the sweat equity thing to pay toward our home or is that only before the house is built?

Just, if anyone knows things like this, I'd appreciate the information.

I can find questions of the app process & what it's like to volunteer but I really need someone that knows these kinda details too.

    Thank you

  • Will there be any public events for pokemon black & white 2 like there were for the originals?

We attended a 3 day event for the release of pokemon black & white and would gladly attend any scheduled for the part 2 release, or even one for pokemon conquest, but we can't seem to find anything at all listed. Does anyone know if something will be coming?

I know the games don't release until fall, but I'm talking about events like they had before.

  • Is there something besides a 501(c)3 organization for charity?

We've become involved in little league sports this year, for my children, and have seen how many kids would love to be able to participate, but cannot due to funds.

If we collect anything, donations, sponsor money, etc., we must use the league nonprofit # for their 501(c)3 status. Then everything must go to them, especially money, and it is all redistributed to the appropriate teams. When our season ends, in about 3-4 weeks, I won't be able to still collect for them using that number.

My question is this, what can I do about getting sponsorships, donations, etc., all year long without a nonprofit tax id #?

Sponsors need that info for their own records and of course they limit grants/donations to only the ones that have a #.

And what if I want to collect for just general use by kids in the community, no matter what sport they play or league that they're in?

There were some major discrepancies in the amount of equipment etc. that some teams had over others and I'd like to be able to choose who to help

    .

Would I have to form my own nonprofit and file for that status just to get a tax # like that?

It's not like I'd have any employees, just friends or my kids that would help me with making crafts & running bake sales etc.

I'd like to hold fundraisers & look for sponsors all during the year, (not just when the season is starting & all the local companies are overwhelmed with petitions for help), & save up the money in a separate account so that when the season starts next year, we can allocate it to whichever teams we want to support.

Is there something besides forming my own charitable organization?

  • Does anyone know where I can find fanfiction for "Life As We Knew It" or the other books in that series?

These books were written by Susan Pfeffer and are often called the "Last Survivors" series.

    They include:

    *Life As We Knew It

    *The Dead and the Gone

    *This World We Live In

and a 4th book will be out next year, which I think is to be called "The Shade of the Moon".

I'd like to find some fanfiction stories for this series. I already read quite a bit of fanfiction but haven't found anything for this series.

If you know of a site and wish to recommend a particular story, please include the author name & story title.

Also, if anyone knows of other books that are similar to these, I'd love to get the titles to those as well.

    Thank you

  • my pokemon platinum ds game won't let me battle, what can I do?

I've basically beat the game & when I try to battle, both screens just turn black. It's not the ds because I've tried it on another one. It's the game itself.

I can still trade but when I try to battle you can still hear the music but can't see anything & it won't interact at all. I just have to turn it off. I've tried battling from different locations and with different pokemon and it still does the same thing.

    Any ideas?

Can the game be copied somehow or something so that I don't lose all the work I've put into this?

  • What can you tell me about Pokemon Black & Pokemon White?

I know that the games are only for DS and were released in Japan in Sept of 2010. I keep getting a vague release date of "Spring 2011" for it being released in the U.S.

I can find Japanese versions on Ebay, but was told that there are English versions sold in Japan, not sure if there were multiple languages available on one game cartridge or if it was simply an all English version just being sold over there.

Does anyone know if there are any English versions for real or if that is false information?

If there are English versions available, even if it means buying it overseas, how and where would I purchase it?

Would you recommend Black or White and why for each?

Can you buy it from a legitimate company from that area?

How do these "downloads" work that I keep seeing people ask about and is it like a wi-fi pokemon that the kids get?

I'm a mom so no, I don't know anything about any of this, I just supply the funds! Both my boys are bugging me something awful about these games because apparently a child they go to school with supposedly has the game in English and I don't know how or where he got it or if it's even true.

Any info would be appreciated and please, put it in "MomSpeak" or else I'll just have to get my boys to decode all the Pokemon chatter! LOL!

Thank you so very much for your help!

I've got a Little Tikes outside 8-in-1 playground that is very sun-faded and I'd like to make it look newer. Has anyone redone one of these before? If so, what did you use?

I'm thinking of trying PlastiKote spray on it since it comes in such bright colors.

  • just watched "Ice Road Truckers" for the 1st time & have some questions?

just watched this show for the 1st time and had a few questions for anyone that might know.

    1) Why can't they air lift in supplies or run boats on the lakes when they aren't frozen?

    2) Can't they use those big hovercraft vehicles on the ice?

    3) Why don't they mark the roadway with reflectors in some way?

    4) Can they NOT build any type of permanent road anywhere up there through all that or is it that the state & environmentalist won't let them, as in, is it impossible or just not sanctioned yet?

    5) Has anyone on here actually been there & if so, what did you think about the trail/road/run, etc.?

    6) Why don't they use big covers on the rigs instead of letting them just get snowed on & iced up?

    7) How does the stuff get OUT from the diamond mines, like the shipments, are they taken out on the ice road only once per year or are they taken out some other way?

Thanks, I know this show has been on for 3 or 4 seasons now, but I'd never watched it before. I'm home on my couch with a messed up foot and am stuck watching tv so figured I'd give it a try.

I think I'd freak out with the cracks in the ice, so this is somewhat interesting to watch.

  • Has anyone gotten a Pharmacy Tech certificate online?

If so, who did you use, what did it cost, and what all was required?

Did you have any problems with any of it, was it a lump sum tuition or monthly installments, was there any classroom time required at local colleges or was it all online, how did you do the clinical requirements, how long did it take you, etc.? And afterward, were employers receptive to the online certificate or did they seem biased because it was received online? How did the job market compare to what you thought it would? Did you find a job, are you still there, how was the work experience? What would you do differently? What should be changed about the online programs? Was it worth it?

I actually graduated from a 2 year program at our local college for pharmacy technicians, but that was in 1994-1996. I've been a SAHM now for 8 years, but all my kids are now in school so I'd like to get back into the workforce. I know that the industry changes as well as how much I've forgotten in the last 15 years would require me to retake the course, but I'm interested in finding out about the online aspect of it.

If anyone has taken an online course, with or without any classroom requirements, could you please tell me about your experience and jobs.

    thanks!!

The catch is, it has to be for someone who gets sea sick on the far out waters. A bigger boat would help and so would shallow waters, but I want him to be able to get a good experience. He's an avid fisherman but never got to go saltwater fishing until they did a deep water tour for 24 hours and he got sick the whole time. It's really messed up for him so I'd like to find a tour that is either on a boat big enough to make it bearable or not far enough out to catch the really big waves. He seems to do okay with lake boats etc. Any recommendations?

  • Where can I find a reliable list of upcoming signing events for authors & actors, especially ones for teens?

I'd like to be able to get some actual signatures from actors & authors, but I don't know how to go about it.

I know some people get them from signing events, but where do I go to get this info for several different authors/actors?

I got a couple "signed" reprints off Ebay of the Twilight cast, but they are way too fake looking, just posters really, and I'd like to get a real signature.

I also got a couple "signed" 1st edition books off there, but they were the "stamped" kind of signatures.

Is there a website that keeps lists of upcoming events for multiple people or do I just have to find each person's personal site and try to find the info there?

    Thanks for the help.

How long did you take it?

How did you feel when you stopped taking it?

  • Why is my yard suddenly FULL of snails?

I've found huge piles of them in the mornings, like a giant snail orgy, and they're all over the yards.

I picked up over 200 just this morning and that's the littlest pile I've found yet!

We've also got tons of worm beds and little mushrooms popping up all over the yard and the field next to us.

We've been in a drought for a while and have just had a lot of rain recently, and I know their eggs can stay for a long time, but these are tons of snails.

They're not just one kind, it's the small white ones, the spiral brown ones, and even the big round ones and they're every size from baby to huge.

They're not just in a garden and I can't put eggshells or copper all over my yards.

These things are making slimy trails everywhere and are hanging all over the outside of my house.
