A Dog is for life
My adorable Labrador puppy is showing signs of Hip and Elbow Dysplasia what are his options?
He is now 5 months old and has always been a very well behaved puppy, now I realise that it is probably due to his legs that he has been this way. He started limping on his front leg 2 weeks ago and I tool him to the vet who said it was highly possible that it was elbow dysplasia but hoped it was just an injury. He is going in for X-rays next week for hips, elbows and shoulders as he is also showing other signs as well as limping and stiffness. He has now been on Metacam for 10 days with little to no imporvement. I was wondering if anyone else has had to cope with this and what it entails for the dog. I was so sure when I bought him from a reputable breeder that he would be okay but the longer his problem is going on the more I am noticing things that he does not do. Am I just over worrying?
6 AnswersDogs9 years agoCan anyone help with how to stop a puppy being scared of toddlers?
He is fine with kids about 5 and over but the smaller kids he is petrified of. I have had him since he was 9 weeks old and he is now 4 months, he has never been hurt by a toddler while in my care and he was with a breeder before then so I assume not there either. He is a lab and going to be a big dog so I do not want a fearful adult lab as I would be scared he would hurt a kid. He is also very submissive with other dogs but once he knows they are fine with him he will play with them. Please only serious answers as I am trying to nip this in the bud while he is young before it becomes a serious problem later on.
2 AnswersDogs9 years agoWhy is my female lab still allowing dogs to mount her after her heat has finished?
She was in heat 3 months ago and we mated her with another chocolate labrador (both eye tested and hip scored) she is not pregnant but has had a false pregnancy. She would have been due her puppies this week. The thing is she is still allowing dogs to mount her and enter her I have had to separate her and her pal a few times now ( her pal has been snipped but obviously does not realise) why is she still allowing them? We were at the vets a few days ago and while I was paying another dog was trying to mount her again but his owner hauled him off but again she was allowing it to happen.
5 AnswersDogs9 years agoI am bringing a dog over from Ireland to Scotland do I need passports or documents for the dog?
I wondered what the legal requirements were are I am finding it all slightly confusing. We are bringing a 5 month old lab puppy from Ireland to Scotland and have on websites that say we need passport but then because our 2 countries are rabies free ther are no compliance checks done is this correct? Do I need a passport for the dog?
