  • How can someone judge the officers?

I keep reading all these questions about the Bell case, and have one question: How can someone who has never been in a shooting say that 50 rounds is excessive? I am currently a police officer, and have been involved in two shooting incidents. I did things I had to be told I did. Ive seen officers with gunshot wounds screaming for help, and known that there isnt a whole lot that can be done. Ive had the other officers call me weeks later when they remembered that they changed magazines, when their recurring nightmare played the incident in their dreams. Im not going to comment on the specifics of the incident, as that was decided in court. The whole point Im trying to make is: How can someone who has never been in a shooting, never had to seriously defend their life, and wasnt there question the fact that five officers who felt their lives threatened and fired 50 rounds when they believed that they wouldnt go home to their families?
