  • Breastfed baby - taking dummy?

I am exclusively breastfeeding my 2 and a half month old little girl and I really would like her to take a dummy. I also have a toddler (2yrs) and some times I just need to calm her for 10 mins. Also as I am feeding on demand she seems to be becoming a real chunky monkey and I worry I am over feeding her. Compared t o the same age bottle fed babies she seems massive. I will not give up on breast feeding as I screwed it up with my son and its something I really regret. So my question is how do I get her to take a dummy?? Thank you :-)

  • Breastfeeding question?

I have a 6 week old little girl who I am exclusively breastfeeding. She is still on no schedule to speak of. I am feeding her as and when required. This can be hourly ( or less) during the day and generally 2 hourly at night. I'm just going by her, when she starts showing signs of wanting it, I feed her. I am getting a lot of helpful (?) people including mum and sis advising that I need to force her into a schedule of every 3 hours at least more at night . It just doesn't sit right with me I think she knows what she wants. What's right? Thank you :-)

  • Bottle feeding a breast fed baby?

My baby is just over 5 weeks old and is completely breast fed. My question is is I was to give one bottle of expressed milk would that cause nipple confusion. I really want to continue breast feeding but she is up every 2 hours without fail and I also have a toddler to look after so just need a little boost.

Also how do I go about expressing the milk but also making sure I have enough for the next feed do I need to do it over the course of a day or do I need to express to build up the supply like she would on a growth spurt. I really want to make sure I don't mess up the breast feeding as I didn't do it as long as I would have liked the first time due to the health visitors silly advice.

    Thank you :-)

  • If your first baby is early...?

Is it likely that your second will be early too. Not really early my first was born at 37 weeks. It's just I want a home birth this time so I am praying I don't go over due. I am currently 35 weeks.

  • Length of labour - 2nd time around?

I'm a little worried as my midwife has told me that the second time tends to take about the third of the time that a first labour does. as my first labour was only 5 hours, I'm worried that either my hubby wont make it home or I will end up having it in the car park. Was your second labour much quicker than your first? Thanks :-)

  • Average weight for an 11 week old?

My little boy was weighed this morning and came in at 10 lb 10. I'm a bit worried as the rest of the babies who are all about the same age look massive compared to him. My son was 7 lb 3 at birth and is totally breast fed. Does this sound normal as I am thinking of going onto formula to help him gain weight a bit quicker.

    Any advice appreciated :-)

  • Pregnant with a big baby?

I had a midwives appointment this morning and she told me that I am measuring 35 weeks even though I am only 34 weeks in, she says that this is no problem and everything else looks perfectly healthy.

I only thought about it after I left properly but because the baby is bigger does this mean that it is likely to come early or does it not make any difference.

Any opinions are appreciated. Thank you :-)

  • Pregnancy - cold medication?

I am currently 8 months pregnant and have suddenly come down with a stinking cold. I would normally, in my pre-pregnancy days, just dose myself up with as much Beechams etc that I could take.

Obviously now I need to think of the baby. Do you know of anything that is ok to take as I am stupidly busy at work and my boss wont let me go home when all I want to do is curl up under my duvet.

I have called my midwife to check and she is going to call me back when she is out of appointments this afternoon. But in the mean time if you could pass on any advise it would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thank you :-)

  • Weekend break - ideas needed?

I am currently nearly 8 months pregnant and I am looking to go on a weekend break with my partner before the baby arrives. We live in London so it cannot be too far as I find it uncomfortable to sit in the car for to long and we are only looking to go Friday night until Sunday night.

What I need is a relaxing couple of days.

Any ideas of where to go would be great!

  • Anti-natal classes question?

I am currently just over 24 weeks pregnant and have been told that my local health authority will not be running any NHS funded anti-natal classes due to lack of funding. I have been told that the NCT runs classes but these are private and therefore need to be paid for.

I was just wondering if anyone else has been to these classes and found them useful as a few people have now told me that they are a waste of money, you don't learn anything you cant read in a book and the midwives help you with the breathing when you actually go into labor as you will just forget otherwise. The money is not an issue but I dont want to waste the money on this when I could spend it on something else for the baby.

    Thank you :-)
