I believe a dog would make a great companion to keep me company and distract me from chronic pain. My wife disagrees. What do you think?
I am disabled by two neurological conditions and am home most of the time. I have difficulty walking and use crutches indoors and a power wheelchair outdoors. We’ve had dogs in the past and I desperately want a dog to be a companion when I’m home. I also think “walking” a dog from my wheelchair, which I have done in the past, would get me outside more and meet other neighborhood dog owners. I am convinced that having a dog would be comforting and help to distract me from chronic pain. My wife disagrees (she still works, I do not). She doesn’t believe that I could take care of a dog, and that our backyard would be a mess. There are services in our neighborhood that would clean (de-poop) the yard weekly for at a reasonable rate. Lastly, I qualify for a certified service dog, Canine Companion, that could be of assistance. The service dogs are already housebroken, trained and about 1 year old. Any opinions? As anyone had a similar experience?
