  • Is the design of my blog too boring?

I had the "dots" background, but the lettering was difficult to see. I went with the blogger "simple 2" template. Is it too dull? Thanks for your comments.

  • No I doubt I am a fat?

Lonelygirlsdeath, a great contributor on YA I'm sure, typed an amusing sentence (I think unintentionally), "No I doubt I am a fat." Add that to the hall of fame of funny bad sentence structure, including hallowed members "What a stupid I am," and "Me talk pretty one day." Any other exceptionally funny bad sentences that gives you the grammatical giggles?

  • For the Fourth, who would you vote for as the most "American" in the 20th and 21st century?

Which American citizen in the 20th and 21st century would you pick to represent the word, "American." Why?

Bonus question: do you think the word "American" has a positive, negative, or neutral connotation nowadays?

  • Which is more important to you: current salary or growth potential?

Here's a career question that I'm facing: suppose you have two job offers in equivalent career fields, Job A offers a high starting salary (let's say 60,000 annual), a set pace of work, but only one promotion opportunity (head of department). Job B has several promotion opportunities, a varied pace of work, but a lower starting salary (40,000). Both jobs offer the same rate of annual raises, but Job B has a higher ceiling (Job A max pay is 95,000 while Job B has a max pay, with possible promotions, to 200,000).

Oh, and Job A has a 5 positions (four filled) and one management position while Job B has two position (one filled), with 5 at the next level, two on the third level, and one at the top. which are constantly in flux.

Which job would you take, steady A or higher future payoff B?

  • Do people ask questions on YA looking for a specific answer?

I've noticed that for many YA questions (usually asking for opinion or advice), people seem to be searching for a specific answer for validation. It seems that any answers that run counter to the normal trend of popular response is ignored or negatively voted. Why ask the question when you already know the answer? Why do we, as humans, desperately need validation from others, even from an anonymous online venture?

  • Baltimore and "Life Free and Die Hard": Did you see the connection?

Did anyone else think that the shots in "Baltimore" (particularly the fighter plane vs. truck scneces) were not very convincing? Where did they shoot this alternate Charm City?"

  • What's the better Radiohead album: Kid A or Hail to the Thief?

Which do you prefer: Hail to the Thief, a sort-of return to their original arena-rockingness, or the original left-turn to ProTools insanity? I left Amnesiac because it could be considered the B-side album to Kid A.

  • Are Wes Anderson films becoming more precious?

I love Wes Anderson films, especially rewatching each of his films in their Criterion Collection prints, searching for the little details, laughing at the in-jokes. Yet, I find that the progression of the films have moved from toward an over-fondness of preciousness. Examples include the stunted dialogue in Bottle Rocket becoming full-blown awkward distance in the Life Aquatic; the dizzying eccentricity of Rushmore looks tame compared to the production shots of Darjeeling Limited. I do know that favor Royal Tenenbaums to Life Aquatic, and Rushmore more than Tenenbaums...is it because as a fan, I'm used to Anderson's motifs, or is it become Anderson is becoming too much like the character he plays in his American Express commercial?

  • Constitutional Law experts: Can an executive branch simply reject a subpeona?

In the grand scheme of things, does the Bush presidential team have the constitutional right to cite executive privilege in response of a subpeona from the Legislative branch?

This is not a question posed to inspire political infighting; more a response to an answer I heard on "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" from expert Johnathon Turley. According to Turley, the executive branch is unlawfully interpreting the executive clause of the constitution. By attempting to use legal measures to delay any accountability, the executive branch may be pursuing illegal activities. The show transcripts haven't been published yet, so I can't reference Turley's comments, but I'm not quite sure how the Bush team is breaking the law.

    Thanks for your input!

  • For Monty Python Fans: What is the funniest gag name ever created by the troupe?

Not the funniest character, but rather what name in and of itself make you titter? I vote for "Tarquin Fin Tim Lim Bim Whin Bim Lim Bus-stop F'tang F'tang Olè Biscuitbarrel" or "Roger the Shrubber."

  • What are the best non-research jobs for a person with an MA in Biology?

Having spent the better part of five years in academic labs, I want to find out information about jobs that reward the Masters degree but do not confine me to bench work. What are the best jobs for Master in Biology, and how does one go about applying/getting that job? I'm assuming one can't readily get these jobs through job sites.
