  • Can gallbladder removal result in chronic diarrhea or bowel problems?

I have been having a lot of pain in my upper right side and back off and on for the past year. Sometimes the pain is wrap around kind, but mostly in the side and back. Sometimes I get an upset stomach and diarrhea after meals. I don't have as much pain in the front right side, although sometimes it will be tender in that area.

After doing much research, I thought I might have a gallbadder problem. I went to my doctor and he actually agreed that it was a good possibility. He sent me for an ultrasound and for a HIDA scan. The ultrasound was kind of grainy, so they weren't able to get a real clear picture, but they did not see any signs of gallstones. I went back a few weeks later for a HIDA scan. The HIDA scan actually came back at 80 something percent function, which the normal range is btw 30-75%. Mine appears to be a little overactive, rather than underactive and perhaps my gallbladder is dumping the bile all at once, rather than normal pace. The doctor kind of left it up to me if I want to have my gallbladder removed.

Anyway, I've been talking to some family members, friends etc. who have had their gallbladders removed. Several people have told me after having theirs removed, they have to watch what they eat. Sometimes they will end up with chronic diarrhea. One person told me she is no longer able to eat salads or lettuce without having diarrhea now, so I'm concerned about having my gallbladder removed. For a little more info, I am not overweight or obese. I'm actually a thin guy who eats pretty healthy. I love salads, fruits and veggies. I try to be careful with what I eat/drink. I don't smoke or drink alcohol.

Just wondering if my case sounds similar to anyone else's out there. And for those that have had their gallbladders removed... have you had problems or noticed a big difference in things you can eat or not eat. Thanks for any thoughts or discussion on this.

  • Question re: UTI & meds?

My GF has a UTI. She went to the clinic here in town yesterday and they gave her Cipro. It's making her sick at her stomach (diarrhea) though, so she's not wanting to take it. This clinic is closed due to it being the 4th, and we can't find anyone else that's open, except the ER. We drove by there going to pick up some cranberry juice at the store, and the parking lot was just completely full!

Came back home and she called a lady she know's daughter who works in housekeeping at the hospital. This girl just happened to be working and told her they were totally swamped. She would have a long wait and there were a lot of stomach flu/gastroenteritis cases, so my GF doesn't want to go to the ER now. She doesn't want to have to sit and wait for hours around people with the stomach flu, because that's worse than the UTI. Anyway, the diarrhea is not that severe. My sister does the same thing when she takes Cipro. I think she's more upset, because she's off this whole week and got sick.

Are there any other meds that anyone with medical or pharmacy background could recommend that isn't as harsh on the digestive tract? Anything over the counter? The only thing I could think of was bactrim? but she'd have to have another prescrip for that, so she'd still have to go to the ER. I think she needs to just stick it out with the Cipro, since it's really just more annoying than anything. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know. Thx!

  • How many pipettes or semen straws are needed to artificially inseminate a female dog?

I am asking for a friend, who asked me this question, but as I only have experience in training and showing, not breeding, I had no clue as to the answer. Plus my friend, Glori owns and shows a totally different breed from me. Now before anyone rushes to judgement, the dogs in question are excellent, healthy representatives of their breed, who could bring a lot of nice things to the table, when it comes to making a positive impact or benefiting their breed. They have had all of the preferred temperment and health testing, such as for hips/elbows and diseases that are prevalent in their breed. She also has a list of people who are waiting for pups from this match up.

Glori's chosen stud dog lives across country, which would make natural breeding difficult. The stud owner has the semen stored at their vet's office. It has been tested, and is of good quality. She plans on letting her own vet do the insemination on her female, however she is wondering how many pipettes or semen straws should be purchased from the stud owners to be used for her female? Again, I have no clue, and am kind of curious as to the answer myself, incase I ever decide to breed my own dogs one day. Thanks very much!

  • Female Convict Cichlid mated with my Jack Demsey.. anybody know how the offspring will look?

I didn't think this was possible, but a guy at a local fish shop told me Convicts were known for inter-breeding with others. When she laid the eggs, I just assumed they wouldn't hatch/survive, but they have so far. Both fish seem to be doing a good job parenting, but I have a couple of aggressive algae eaters that are constantly harrassing the pair, picking fights with them and trying to get at the babies. I am probably going to have to seperate them all. I'm just curious if anybody else has seen or heard of this cross before and if so, what the offspring looked like? They are too small for me to tell anything about them right now. I have a couple of large aquariums, so I plan on keeping most of them, except for a few friends who want some for their aquariums. And before anybody jumps the gun here, I am a mature adult and kept fish since I was a kid. I am not for inter-breeding different types like this, so I will seperate them to keep it from happening again, if I have to. I just never dreamed these two fish were even compatible.
