  • Do I rank in the highest tenth of my highschool class?

    Hello, and thank you.

I want to apply for an accelerated medical school program, and one of the requirements listed is:

A rank in the highest tenth of high school class

I'm slightly confused as to what this means. Does that mean in the top 10 rank # or percent. As of now, I am #74 of roughly 500 (I think). Am I in the highest tenth?

    Thank you!

  • Rate this book idea?

    Hello,

I would like to start this question by saying that I am not a fairly new writer (having written short stories and publishing on wattpad) but I am going to plan/write and publish my first book (maybe a trilogy)

You can either rate on a number scale, or share your personal thoughts (whatever fits your fancy) I am just lookin for honest feedback. (And I know that people on this website are brutally honest, which is helpful!)

Below is a quick summary of what I have been working on:

In Colony Three, years after mankind was driven underground, due to a virus outbreak, life expectancy was reduced to forty. At seventeen years old, (and married at sixteen), Milan Sairo works as a miner (called a Pika, of "rock-rabbit") mining coal as an energy source. After becoming the only survivor of a deadly mining explosion, Milan is suspected to be immune to the deadly virus that once drove mankind underground.

Armed only with a gun, and her dog, Milan is forced outside of Colony Three and into the Thailand wilderness, while the colony uses her husband for leverage. Above ground, she navigates the deadly terrain, and stumbles upon why civilization was forced underground 173 years ago.

But she isn't the only survivor, and when she discovers the family that she thought was dead, Milan is forced to choose between her long-lost brother, or the man that she has always loved being held hostage in the colony.

This is a plot I've started to work on, thank you for your time and feedback:

Years after the "Golden Age" of genetic engineering, Jocelyn DeMar lives in one of the Southern Californian tribe that survived the brutal war. However, after a plague sweeps across her tribe, killing all of it's members except for her, she is forced to travel to San Francisco in search for answers. Jocelyn sets out North with Raja, a cross breed between a wolf and a bear, one of the genetic weapons left behind from the war.

After journeying across the desert with Charlotte, a young girl held captive by another tribe and her brother, Kris, Jocelyn arrives in San Francisco. She quickly becomes submersed in the underground world of drugs, fighting rings and corrupt experiments.

After an attempt to breach a corrupt drug corporation, she meets Nathaniel Saito, grandson of a genetic scientist who engineered soldiers for the war. Together, they discover that Jocelyn is the second generation genetically modified.

Jocelyn and Nathaniel work to uncover the rouge experiments held by the Meroe Corporation, and the reason behind them. Working undercover, Nathaniel researches the origination of the genetically modified humans, the reason behind the Meroe corporation, and the experiments taking place in the desert that Jocelyn came from.

  • "Rate" my book idea?

Hello! Thank you for reading/answering my question. So far, this book is just and idea I am developing, thank you for reading!

Oliver Rowe, a successful neurosurgeon in his mid forties, has successfully rewired the human brain to receive signals. Over the next few years, he spends his wealth building the Rowe Corporation, where Oliver continues to research the human mind and build upon his invention. After hours of long work and countless research trials, he is able to regrow limbs for war veterans, treat and cure cancer, and research medical disabilities.

Two years into the future, after Oliver Rowe's suicide, the corporation is left to his sons, Thomas (23) and Max (18) Rowe. The boys, both extremely wealthy and intelligent, take care of the medical empire that their father left them.

Across America, in Los Angeles, Jocelyn DeMar has saved enough money after years of hard work fixing cars to fly to New York for the chance to cure her deafness, and hear the world around her for the first time. She meets with Thomas and Max, but during her first "rewire" she attacks Thomas. However, when she wakes up in a cell, she has no recollection of the attack; and not only can Jocelyn hear people's words, but she can hear their thoughts as well.

Together, Jocelyn, Thomas, and Max race to discover who "hijacked" Jocelyn's surgery, what the technology that Oliver Rowe developed could be used for, and the darker intentions behind the corporation and Oliver Rowe's suicide.

  • WDYT of my book idea?

I'm still working out the details, and I still have to do some more research, but here it is!

Hundreds of years after a nuclear apocalyptic event that almost destroyed all life on earth, Luca DeMar lives in DivisionCity 2, one of more than twenty small cities finally able to rebuild and thrive. As one of the youngest gang leaders in the city, Luca hijacks weapons and a drug called Hoax (that combats radiation poisoning) from military trucks passing through the city.

Business is booming, until he crosses paths with Priya Byrne, who steals a shipment of Hoax from Luca to distribute to those on the street who cannot afford it themselves, including her little brother. When Luca violently confronts Priya to regain the money he lost, Priya leaves Luca handcuffed to the side of a building, framed for the death of a city's guard.

Luca is thrown in jail, awaiting his death sentence. Until the day of his execution, when Luca is given an ultimatum: he can die, or join an expedition past the harsh wasteland he's known all his life and journey into the forest that lies beyond. Luca accepts, and is thrusted outside the gates with enough food, water and Hoax to last a month with more than twenty other prisoners, including Priya Byrne.

On his journey, Luca discovers violent, war-hungry tribes that managed to survive the radiation, the darker ambitions behind the journey, and the reason why the nuclear event that almost wiped out mankind occurred in the first place

    Thanks for reading!

In a post-apocalyptic world, Luca DeMar is the youngest gang-leader, weapons trader and drug dealer in DivisionCity 2. But when he tries to rob seventeen-year-old, Priya Byrne, he is left handcuffed to a pole and framed for the death of one of city's guards.

But after rotting in a prison cell for A week, Luca is approached with two options: receive the death sentence, or go on an exhibition into the Rocky Mountains to gather supplies. He chooses to leave the comfort of the city and set off with 24 other prisoners past the storming Dust Bowl, into the radiation simmering forest that lies beyond, accompanied by Priya Byrne.

On his journey, Luca meets tribes and clans of people who survived the nuclear war that destroyed the planet over a hundred years ago. But as he makes his way into the mountains, he discovers the true reasons behind the exhibition and why the war that nearly wiped out mankind was waged in the first place.

Thank you! Some of it is still in the works!

In a near-future world, on the coast of Northern California, Jocelyn is an Inane (void in Latin), specifically engineered for scientific study and organ transplants. They are created to have an empty mind, the mental structure of a new-born child. Inanes are privately kept on mansions and estates, called Domains.

After a terrorist attack that subjected the Inanes to radio waves on the Domain in northern California, the Inanes are left in panic and confusion. But for the first time in history, an Inane, Jocelyn, has started to evolve, and break past the mental barrier that has kept her from developing a personality.

As Jocelyn starts to become self aware to the torture and abuse apparent in the Domains, she plans to destroy the Domain from the inside and free the Inanes.

Nathaniel Saito is a newly trained guard for the Northern California Domain after the terrorist attack. When he discovers Jocelyn's new and expanding personality, he thrusts Jocelyn into the world of conspiracies, a worldwide network of Domains and the secrets and lies of becoming double agent.

(I know it's not a lot, this is just what I've started to work on. Names, like Inane and Domain, are still in the works.)
