  • Name suggestions?

I am bringing home a new horse soon! However, his barn name, "Rick", is a little unusual for a horse. His registered name is RickOShay, he's a 12 year old black and white Tobiano paint stallion, around 15hh. He's been the cornerstone of a breeding program for many years and has only ever had one owner, she sadly has been forced to sell all of her horses due to health reasons and a pending move to a smaller place. He is a super sweet boy, very polite and well mannered.

His barn name has been "Rick" his entire life, and he comes when he is called, so I would love to think of something sort of similar sounding, one or two syllables, to make it an easier transition for him. I'm sort of coming up empty, I've googled and brainstormed, and have found names I liked but not loved, so I would love to hear your suggestions!

Currently my top pick is Rio, I'm open to whatever you can think of though! Thanks!!

  • What do you think? Keep writing it or scrap it?

lol, I keep posting this question and it keeps not showing up anywhere.

Hey guys, just scribbled a chapter from an Equestrian romance novel I started. It's still rough though and needs some editing. What do you think? Worth continuing or scrap it? Adults only please.

  • Herd Bound Lesson Horse?

I'm having a very difficult time with one of my lesson horses. She has become VERY herd bound. If I bring her into the barn to groom her and she cannot see one of my other horses, Sherry, she goes nuts. She dances around in the isle and won't stand still, even if she can see other horses. She and Sherry were alone together for about 6 months but are now turned out with two other mares. If I try to ride her while the other horses are in the barn or away from the other horses while they are in the pasture, she is totally nuts. When ridden near the other horses, she is a calm, "bomb proof" horse that anyone can safely ride. She is 21 this year and I have owned her since December. She was owned by a client who wanted to sell her, I had put some training on her before she came to my barn and she was quiet and safe, so I took her to use as a lesson horse, which normally she is perfect for. The horse has a very pushy temperament, even when not nervous. Her former owner was very nice but did not correct ANY bad behaviors during the 8 years that she owned her, so there has been a lot to fix. She has improved greatly, but she is a total jerk when she is away from other horses (ie, tries to run me over, dancing around, won't stand still, pushy with her head, etc. all of which I correct her for). The other problem is the horse has low confidence. It is extremely difficult if not impossible to get her to make eye contact when she is nervous. 100% of her focus is on the other horses, even if I give her a very firm correction when she is misbehaving. Obviously the root cause of the misbehavior is because she is afraid from being away from her friends, but I'm not going to not correct her for running over me etc. Any thoughts on how to help her build more confidence while being away from her friends? I don't have a round pen, so please don't suggest I round pen her. Thanks!
