  • Songs with lyrics about infanticide/killing children?

A friend and I are putting together a themed CD, following along the rather dark subject matter of infanticide. (Don't ask why).

So I'm looking for any decent songs with lyrics dealing with infanticide or killing children, in the vein of:

PJ Harvey - Down by the Water

The Smiths - This Night Has Opened My Eyes

    Bauhaus - The Three Shadows

wumpscut - In the Peace of the Night

Bonus points for songs that happen to fall within the post-punk/goth rock genre.

  • Are there any 24-hour cafes/coffee shops in Michigan?

I'm looking for any 24-hour cafes or coffee shops in Michigan, preferably with wifi, around the Detroit area. I like to work on my writing at night, and get out of the house while I do it, but nothing is open in my little section of suburbia in the metro-Detroit area. The only 24-hour place is a Dunkin Donuts, and I'd like somewhere I could get actual, good coffee/food while I write.

  • Accurate guitar tab for acoustic version of "Maps" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs?

    Hey guys,

I'm looking for an accurate guitar tab of the acoustic version of "Maps" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. So far the only one I've been able to find floating around the internet cops out and just gives me the chord names for the chorus.

I can't quite play the original version of "Maps" because the tremolo picking trips me up, but the acoustic version is just my speed. Does anyone happen to have this tab, or would anyone be willing to transcribe it?

  • About how long do you think this tattoo would take?

So in a week or two I'm planning on getting my first tattoo. It will be a little over four inches long and about an inch wide at the widest point. It's not incredibly detailed, pretty much just basic outlines, but I am planning on having it colored. I would like your estimates so I have an idea of how much money I need to take out of the bank. (I'm almost planning on going to the tattoo parlor in advance and getting an estimate, but I want a comparison).

Also, since I'm planning on getting it on my leg, how far in advance of getting the tattoo should I shave? Would it hurt like hell if I shaved the morning before I went to get tattooed?

  • Do you think I could have Borderline Personality Disorder?

I've been wondering for years if I might have some kind of mental illness. I'm 18 years old and have lived through three suicide attempts and one period of self-mutilation. I've had frequent problems with sudden, recurrent depression over the course of the last six years.

Of course it's never a good idea to self-diagnose, but I wondered if I could be suffering from depression or bipolar disorder. However, when I did research and looked up the symptoms, I found that my symptoms weren't quite in line with them. I don't go through periods of mania, and as for my depressive periods, they come and go too quickly to qualify for clinical depression or bipolar disorder. Also, I don't generally have the appetite and sleep disturbances during my depressive periods that depression and bipolar disorder typically exhibit.

Everything about my mental state is more or less characterized by extremes and instability.

I swing between being happy and depressed within a matter of minutes, and either mood can last minutes, hours, or days. I'll often find myself happy at lunch only to find myself depressed by dinner and happy again before bedtime; other times I may be depressed for days without relief.

I also have difficulty controlling my anger, and I get inappropriately loud and violent at minor annoyances.

I alternate between periods of feeling extremely self-confident and happy with myself to hating myself without any apparent reason.

I often have trouble controlling my spending when I have money, randomly start smoking or drinking, and alternate between eating only one meal a day and having three meals with snacks in between.

I am deathly afraid of being alone in life, which I fear constantly, and cling to my friends as much as possible, although sometimes I'll swing between thinking of someone as a close friend and then hating their guts before swinging back to being friends again.

A lot of the time, too, I feel blank or worthless.

I've never been diagnosed with a mental disorder, and I am currently seeing a councellor at the free center on my college campus, but she will only refer me to other doctors if she thinks I'm not improving, so no diagnosis or definitive lack thereof there.

So, Yahoo. Do you think I could have Borderline Personality Disorder?

  • How can I prevent the cold weather from killing my battery?

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee that I've recently taken up north with me to college in Marquette, Michigan. Needless to say, it gets extremely cold up here in the winter.

For the past five days I haven't been able to start my car. Sometimes I go out and the battery still has a weak charge, and other times it's completely dead. Jumping it for ten minutes straight gives it more power, but not enough to turn over the engine (though I can hear it cranking).

I finally decided that since the battery currently under the hood is a few years old, it's time to replace it anyway. So I bought a new battery (630 cranking amps, 525 cold cranking amps) last night and have been keeping it in my dorm room where it's nice and toasty until I put it in.

I was thinking of putting it in today, but I have to drive home for winter break on Thursday, and I don't want two nights out in the cold to kill my new battery. Are there any ways I can prevent the battery from getting too cold to start the car?

  • I recently started wearing earrings again, and now my earlobes are constantly irritated. What can I do?

I got my ears pierced a long, long time ago when dinosaurs roamed the earth, back in about the sixth grade or something like that. I used to wear earrings in all the time, but after a while I gradually stopped and only started wearing them when I was getting dressed up for something.

Now I've decided to start wearing earrings on a regular basis again. My left hole never closed at all, but my right hole closed over in the back and I had to poke through (this has happened to me multiple times, though). This is about the third day, and both my earlobes are very irritated and sensitive to the touch. I occasionally take the earrings out for a few seconds to switch to a different pair or just to check on them, and usually I find pus on them (especially the right one). Today I also found some dried blood on the left one.

As far as I know, I don't have a metal allergy, so I don't think the earrings themselves are the problem. I expected my right ear to give me trouble, since I had to open the hole in the back again, but I don't know why the left ear is bothering me too.

Is there anything I can do to soothe the irritation and make them (or at least the right earlobe) heal faster?

  • Help a new aquarium owner with her red-tailed black shark?

    OK, Yahoo. You know.

So this past Saturday I went out and got a 3-gallon tank. I live in a college dorm, so I couldn't really get anything bigger for reasons of space. I added some stress-zyme to the water, treated it to get rid of the chlorine and such, and let the tank filter it all for 24 hours.

The next day I went out to the local pet store and bought a red-tailed black shark. I estimate him to be around an inch to an inch-and-a-half long. I let him into the tank slowly, like you're supposed to do, letting his bag float in the aquarium water to adjust to the temperature and then netting him into the actual tank.

For the first twenty-four hours he was quite the fine, happy, healthy fish, though I noticed he tended to hoard his fish flakes on the bottom around the pump for the filter rather than eat most of them.

Late Monday night I came back to my room to find him looking pretty ill. His tail had faded to a more pinkish color, his gills were red, and was trailing a very long string of feces around in the tank with him. I did about a 30% water change and took out most of the fish flakes he hadn't eaten, and he seemed to become healthy again. He got his color back and began swimming around. I cut back on how much food I was giving him.

Yesterday, Tuesday, I came in late again to find the water in the tank looking very cloudy and the fish's colors looking very dull and faded with his gills red again. I did about a 50% water change and he got his color back.

I've done ammonia tests in the water and it seems to be at a safe level, but I've treated his water for ammonia already just to be safe. This morning I did about a 10% water change and another small water change in the early afternoon. So far he hasn't lost his color again.

Any ideas what might be wrong with my fish and how I could go about correcting the problem?
