14 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoVaccinations, was everyone aware of this retraction?
In 1998 Dr Andrew Wakefeild had an article published in a Journal called the Lancet which has led to thousands of parents rejecting vaccinations for their children based on a fear of Autism.
The article claimed the MMR vaccine was linked to Autism in children. The other professionals linked to this study have retracted their support over the years as it has become blindingly clear that this research is false. However publicity given to this false research seems to far outweigh any publicity of the retraction of this article by the publisher.
A disciplinarian panel found Dr Andrew Wakefield, was acting unethically while conducting his research.

Another interesting article by Alison Singer - co-founder and president of the Autism Science Foundation

I just heard this and wondered if people were aware of just how wrong this article has been found to be?
What is your opinion?
19 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoFormula feeding Mum's do you really find bottle washing that bad?
I notice that when a question comes up about breast/formula feeding there is always this argument. "You won't want to get up in the middle of the night and wash and sterilise bottles and make up the formula" like it's a huge hassle.
I have never been bothered by it because I wash my dishes every night. So I do the bottles first, whack them in the steriliser, boil the kettle, do the rest of the wash up, the bottles are done I put water in them & hey presto - done.
But am I just weird? Are there bottle feeding Mum's out there that wait until the middle of the night to do this?
14 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoNail biting 2 year old?
Ok the stuff you can put on your nails says 3years plus so i can't do that. But he's given himself an ingrown thumb nail from chewing them - pus & red etc. I had no idea why he was doing it, then my husband says that he does it too. I have never noticed this in 9 years I've been with my husband?!?!
How do i stop him? I tell him to take his hand out of his mouth and generally he does, even though he get's cranky at me, but I can't be watching him 24/7.
Any suggestions?
3 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoWeaning from Breast to formula, which feed first?
Ok I've been breastfeeding my little man for 10 weeks now with a small comp formula a feed at night because he wasn't gaining weight (from week 5). He is currently being tested for lactose intolerance as he has excessive gas and explosive bowel movements and is basically miserable all the time.
We have decided because we are both loosing our sanity to wean him onto formula fully regardless of the outcome of the test. For a couple of reasons
1. To eliminate the variables bought on by my diet.
2. So that I can get away when I am at the end of my coping ability. (I don't have enough supply to pump anything out, it seems my supply is very efficient. There is enough there when he feeds but I can't hardly get anything out with a pump).
Anyhow my question is which feed would you drop first? With my other son I had a crappy supply and it was all very easy, I merely dropped the last feed of the night because I had no milk then anyway. But this time it doesn't seem as logical and I'm not looking forward to the pain of engorgement.
So which feed would you drop?
Please no suggestions on keeping breast feeding. I did not reach this decision lightly. Please understand that my little man is very very unhappy and I can no longer live with the idea that it is probably something I am eating. I have tried elimintaing milk, eggs etc. I also cna no longer live with not being able to leave the house for an evening when i have reached the limits of my coping. Any mother knows that even if you're having 'time off' when you can hear your baby screaming you can't ignore it - I need to be able to leavbe the house.
4 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoA question for breast feeding advocates.?
I am currently breast feeding my 3 weeks old baby boy and as such I avidly read all the breast feeding questions on here.
The one comment I see written all the time is 'keep putting the baby to the breast' and 'feed as often as they want'.
I get the concept, I really do, it increases supply etc.
What I want to know is how the hell do you get anything else done?
Do you all have maids? Perhaps Nanny's for your other kids?
My husband is gone from 6am til 5pm when at work. I am not sure how to get everything done if I have to sit around all day putting my son on the breast. I have a 2 year old as well. How does he not suffer?
16 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoOne week old baby, Can't stop crying about my 2 year old.?
Hi I was just wondering if anyone else had my problem.
I have a one week old baby and my hormones are raging. Every time I have time to myself I start crying about how I can't dedicate as much time as I would like to my other child. he is two and to be honest probably doesn't mind too much as his Daddy is home at the moment and he adores him, Mummy never has been very exciting.
I feel like a nut case because there doesn't seem to be any rational reason. I cry about how he grows up too fast, and can't look at his old clothes for my new son because it makes me cry.
Any one else feel this way? Any advice on how not to feel so hormonal?
It also has the added effect of making me feel as if I don't care as much about my baby as i do my older child.
4 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade ago36 weeks, feel free to stay in there baby....?
Am I the only person in the world who isn't desperate for my baby to come before it's due date? Sooooo many perople in here seem so darn impatient.
I'm quite happy to wait, I still have so many things to do. Not to mention I am pretty certain if I feel this tired and overwhelmed with a 2 year old and being pregnant, that a 2 year old and the sleepless nights of a newborn has to be worse?!?!
I could very well be the only person in here hoping to be overdue!!
(Don't like my chances though, I went into labour with number one the day after he was due.)
Please tell me I'm not the only one!!
5 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoLong Names for our next baby!!?
Ok so this may seem a little evil. But by chance our first son has a very long name Alexander Campbell B________ (9 letter last name).
So in choosing a name for our next child we thought we'd torture the poor kid the same way.
So for a girl we have chosen Katherine Gabrielle - Katy for short
Katy & Alex sounds pretty cute I think.
But my problem comes from if it's a boy. I was keen on Maxamillion, but my husband's best friend just named his little boy Max, so that's gone.
The middle name will be Robert. So any idea's on long first names for boys?
31 AnswersBaby Names1 decade agoWhy are Nadal fans so nasty about Federer?
There are so many questions which are anti-Federer. So I'm wondering what exactly are all those Nadal fans getting out of being so nasty?
It begs the question are you not confident your man can retain number 1? Do you do it because it makes you feel more secure?
Most bullies bully because it makes them feel better. So does it make you feel better to ridicule a guy because he cried after having potentially the worst year of his career and stumbled a little at the first challenge?
You tell me, what does it make you feel when you are nasty about him?
