As of now, I am xx years old, and I want to become one of the following in the future: A paleontologist An English linguistics professor I'm learning Japanese as of now (it really interferes with my Spanish classes; currently failing them ;_;) and I think I know the basics, just not fluent - yet.
(angular momentum) A stick that pivots at its center is hit by a bullet?
A uniform stick 1.0 m long with a total mass of 270 g is pivoted at its center. A 3.0 g bullet is shot through the stick midway between the pivot and one end. The bullet approaches at 250 m/s and leaves at 140 m/s.
I'm trying to find the angular speed the stick spins at after the collision. I got help with it already, but one part still confuses me.
Please see the attached image. I don't understand why we need to know the exact part of the stick that the bullet strikes, i.e. why we need to multiply mv with (1/4)l.
1 AnswerPhysics1 year agoIn physics, how is mv(dv/dx) equal to the derivative of 0.5mv^2? This question is in regards to the law of conservation of energy.?
I'm trying to prove the law of conservation of energy (that dE/dt = 0) given that F(x) = -U'(x), but this one step is really confusing me. Please see the attached picture for where I get confused.
4 AnswersPhysics1 year agoIs there a way to test if a plant species is suitable for phytoremediation without actually exposing it to the waste I want to remediate?
I don't really see anything similar between sunflowers, Indian mustard, poplar trees, etc. so I'm not sure what to look for when finding a plant to test to measure its phytoremediation potential.
1 AnswerGarden & Landscape5 years agoHow do prepaid cards work?
I'm not 18 and without a credit or debit card, and I was looking to buy some pen parts online by myself. I've heard of prepaid cards, but the information I've found online kind of confused me. Can you explain to me how I can get prepaid cards and how to use them for online shopping?

8 AnswersOther - Family & Relationships7 years agoI'm ugly but I don't want to seem creepy when flirting with a girl?
I've recently begun to really focus on dressing well and taking care of my personal hygiene. I've also been working out for a while. As a result, my confidence has increased, definitely. However, I'm rather uncomfortable and awkward when it comes to flirting because I have an unattractive face, an imperfect smile, and I'm on the short side. Can't really change that :(
This is a problem for me because I've been repeatedly told to smile at women to seem more outgoing and friendly, but I fear they may just become distracted by my peculiar grin. So is there someway I can flirt without seeming creepy or smiling much? Or should I smile anyway to display "confidence"?

1 AnswerSingles & Dating7 years agoCan you still be friends with a girl who rejected you?
Didn't happen yet as I'm still getting to know this girl better, but I'm preparing for this outcome. I like hanging out with her, and was wondering if it would be OK to stay friends even if she rejects me as a romantic partner.
Why should or shouldn't I remain friends?
9 AnswersSingles & Dating7 years agoHow to know if you're annoying someone?
There's this girl I've been talking to rather frequently, and she acts comparatively nice around me. However, I'm not sure whether or not she is kind because she enjoys my company or if she just doesn't want to offend me by telling me to go away.
How can I know?
2 AnswersEtiquette7 years agoWhat is the difference between vertebrate paleontology and vertebrate paleozoology?
I was browsing Wikipedia and looked into branches of paleontology. Two that were listed were "vertebrate paleontology" and "paleozoology". However, there is a division of paleozoology called "vertebrate paleozoology", so I was wondering what the difference is between the two branches.
