  • Solving for a characteristic wavelength?

    An electron is accelerated through an electric potential to a kinetic energy of 18.9 keV or 3.02811351*10^-15 joules

    What is its characteristic wavelength? [Hint: Recall that the kinetic energy of a moving object is E = (1/2)m(v^2)]

    So i first tried solving the problem by solving for v: 3.02811351*10^-15 = (1/2)m(v^2) where m is the mass of an electron which is 9.11 x10^-31.

    Then i used λ = hv/E to solve for λ where h is 6.626*10^-34 v is the velocity that i solved for an E is 3.02811351*10^-15 J

    Is this the correct way because i got a wrong answer, what am i doing wrong? Thanks

  • When a mixture of 12.5 g of acetylene and 12.5 g of oxygen is ignited, the result is combustion...?

    The balanced equation is 2 C2H2 + 5 O2 --> 4 CO2 + 2 H2O. You have 12.5 g of C2H2 and 12.5 g of O2.

    How many grams of O2 are present after the reaction is complete.

    I found out that oxygen is the limiting reactant with about .390639 moles but how do i find how many grams of 02 is left over. Is it just 0 because all of the 02 have been reacted or is it more complicated then that?

  • How to find Quantity of heat?

    i need help finding the quantity of heat i know that Q = Mass * Specific heat * Change in temp

    I'm given brass has a mass of 105 g and its specific heat is .377 (kJ/kg K). In order to find its change of temperature it was placed in boiling water for a minute and then was placed in cold water and the temperature was read. i then took final temp (object after being heated placed in cold water) - initial temp (the cold water without anything in it) to get the change in temp

    question now is do i just do Q = .377 * 105 * the change temp or is there something more i have to do?

    if not could you please show me what i have to do thanks

  • Max - Min problem dealing with an open top box?

    A 3'' by 5'' card is being made into an open top box. What size squares should be removed from the corners to maximize the volume of the box.

    The teacher said the answer was ( 8 - srqroot(19) ) / 6

    I know that i have to maximum volume and i came up with a formula for volume which was (3 - 2x)(5 - 2X)x. Then simplified and did the derivative of that and solved for x but didn't get the right answer

    If you could show how to get the answer that would be great
