I'm an aspiring film-maker with an incurable addiction for literature and film. I like other women. A lot.

  • Do you agree that gay pride events are in fact detrimental to the LGBT community?

I have always found the concept of "gay pride" a somewhat absurd one. The whole point of such events is to prove that we AREN'T different, correct? That we are people, just like anyone else, and who we love doesn't effect the ultimate bond that is humanity. But doesn't the very fact that we're having such events overrule that desire? If we're having events where we are saying "we're different but we love it," aren't we asserting that we ARE, somehow, "different" than people who identify as heterosexual? I mean, there'd never be a straight pride event, right?

    Anyway, thoughts?
