*on an extended hiatus. I'll hardly be around, too much work to do. I'll probably come by when I'm really bored and bummed out. **I haven't been on Y!A for a while, but if you're wondering, I'm still alive. I've gotten a bit out of music, but I still love listening. Nowadays, I've really been enjoying watching basketball and collecting basketball card. I find it funny how I'm a Boston Celtics fan who lives in LA. I miss the good old days of the Rock and Pop section of Y!A I listen to a variety of music and sub-genres of rock, but I mostly listen to grunge and punk rock. I can pretty much tolerate all kinds of music, unless I'm tired of hearing some song I find okay every fifteen minutes or so on the radio.

  • What were NBA fans like at the arena back in the day when they were upset?

Yesterday, I was watching the preseason LAL@LAC game. Matt Barnes gave Blake Griffin a shove and after he was almost ejected, he got back and started playing. Whenever he touched the ball, there were boos coming from the crowd.

Looking back a couple months ago, D Wade dragged Rondo down with him during a fall and dislocated Rondo's elbow. Throughout the game (or at least until Rondo got back in), the boos came in drones whenever Wade touched the ball.

And then there was homecoming for LBJ in Cleveland (that's when I started paying attention to the boos). Those boos were really drones. And whenever LBJ let go of the ball, all the boos disappeared.

Now I'm just wondering how it was like back in the day. It'd be nice to get some details on any team and any era of the past, but I'm mostly interested in the 80s thru the mid 90s when you had players like Patrick Ewing, Bill Laimbeer, MJ, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Dennis Rodman, Kurt Rambis, Charles Barkley, and Kevin McHale out there. I never got the chance to live through it and that era tops my curiosity, but if there's anything else interesting to point out, that'd be appreciated too. (and no, I'm not thinking as recent as anything Rasheed Wallace or Ron Artest)

  • Do you ever feel that some albums are unequally priced?

Yesterday, I got a used copy of Ten Summoner's Tales by Sting for $5 and I was quite happy. I listened to it, and that album is just amazing; it's now one of my top ten albums of all time. I feel like I should have paid $18 just for that album. I can't believe I was complaining that $10 was too much for a Sting album at Best Buy! There's also The Clash's London Calling ($5) and The Strokes' Is This It ($7) that I feel like I didn't pay enough for. On the other hand, there's some albums that don't really deserve that much out of my wallet. For me, I've bought an Avenged Sevenfold album for $15 and Linkin Park for $10. I wish I only had to pay $6 or less. Not worth my money.

MQ: Do you have any guidelines that have to do with prices when buying albums?

MQ2: Does anyone know anything about Sting's new album, Symphonicities, coming out on July 13th? What I want to know the most is if they're symphonic remakes of whatever songs are on the album.

BQ: How's the weather over there?

It's a sunny, average day in Southern California. Clear skies, lots of smog. That won't be the case for me next week. I heading to some places in China, such as Hong Kong and Hangzhou. I'm screwed. Extreme humidity, temperature up at 90°F/32°C, thunderstorms the whole week--lucky me. Oh yeah, this is probably the last question for me here on Y!A. See you guys soon. Don't worry, I'll be back in two weeks.

  • Back in the 70s, 80s, and maybe even the 60s, were '45s or 7"s of singles always or at least usually in print?

I'm just a little curious. I'm part of the younger generation and while I was looking at my music collection, I started wondering about it after realizing that nowadays, singles (on CD and vinyl) are almost always printed for a short run, only a months to maybe a year or two. Were 7" and '45rpm singles widely available in print or was the production in those days always limited too?

Also, if you so happen to know, do soundtracks of motion pictures/movies stay in print like everyday albums or do they usually go out of print after a period of time?

  • R&P: Do you think gold records really work?

    http://www.store2.livenation.com/cgi-bin/WebObject...

    http://www.store2.livenation.com/cgi-bin/WebObject...

Now that I know there really is such thing as solid gold records or least gold-plated records, I'm just wondering, do they even play? I always thought they were just for speaking of and showing off, but now, I've actually found some for sale?

BQ: Would you buy a copy of your favorite record for a hefty amount of money if it were made of solid gold?

  • Would it be better if I buy all the albums by The Police or a box set?

I'm between the decision of buying all their albums (which are all in stock at my local Best Buy and I'm just waiting for them to go on sale and save $2 each) or should I buy their Message in a Box box set (which I'll have to order online)? I prefer albums more and it's more convenient for me to go to the store, but the box set contains everything on the albums and a bunch of other rare songs, although the put a break in between the albums and they're all mixed up. If they just put the albums in the box set plus a bonus disk of rarities, I would go for the box set, but now I'm just stuck.

BQ: A bunch of albums or a box set?

  • R&P: What are some amazing album that were amazing landmarks?

There's a lot of great albums that were important landmarks out there. N.W.A, Straight Outta Compton, that was just ... I don't know what to say about it. Just amazing. The Strokes, Is This It, probably my favorite album of all time. Anything you'd like to talk about?

Also, wow, I've been here on Y!A for exactly a year now. Time goes by pretty fast. Thanks everyone, it's been a fun year.

  • Is it just me, or does it seem like this guy on eBay is Jeff Nelson of Minor Threat?

    http://myworld.ebay.com/hommedegomme/

If it is then ... woah! I'm pretty sure it is him.

All this guy is selling is Dischord Records stuff, Jeff Nelson is the co-owner of the label, the descriptions either say "I ( Jeff Nelson, Minor Threat / Dischord )" or "my ( Jeff Nelson, Minor Threat / Dischord )", and there's way too much rare stuff on sale. Do you think this really is Jeff Nelson?

    BQ: Fugazi or Minor Threat?

  • Is it possible to rip the audio off of this specific CD?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Downward_Spiral#D...

It says it also comes with a SACD layer, but also has a regular CD layer. I'm not too sure if I could rip the audio from this CD.

  • What are some famous musicians use only one word in their name/stage name?

They usually use two (or more) words as their name. I haven't really though of that much. Some of the ones I could think of were Madonna, Slash, Flea, and Bono. What are some that you could think of?

(Nicknames don't count, like Ozzy instead of Ozzy Osbourne or Jello instead of Jello Biafra)

BQ: If you feel left out because you can't think of anything that applies, what is your favorite band with only one word in their name?

  • How did the tradition of yelling "Free Bird" at concerts start?

It makes sense of why it happens at Lynyrd Skynyrd concerts, but how did it start outside, at other shows?

BQ: Have you ever yelled "Free Bird" at a concert before?

BQ2: Do you think this tradition has gotten annoying?

  • What are some great soft albums?

I don't really care if it's a band I love or not. I just want something with a nice smooth feel, such as Mad Season's Above or Alice in Chains' Jar of Flies. I just noticed that about 93% of the music that I own is random noises that I enjoy. What type of things am I missing out on?

  • Does it seem like the right thing to do or is Courtney Love just doing it for the money?

    http://videogames.yahoo.com/events/plugged-in/cour...

If Kurt Cobain were alive, he wouldn't be proud to be in Guitar Hero 5, but is Courtney Love just suing for the money? I don't exactly understand what's going on.

BQ: Would you mind if you were a character in Guitar Hero?

  • What are some great older hardcore punk bands?

I'm really starting to love the sound of those bands and I can't get enough of it right now. I've recently just bought Black Flag's Damaged and Minor Threat's Complete Discography. What other older hardcore punk bands are as great as The Teen Idles, S.O.A., Black Flag, Government Issue, The Fartz, and Minor Threat?

He gives a speech-like thing like a man, but the lyrics sound very odd and ... different.

  • Have the last two Alice in Chains singles ever been released on a physical format?

I know they're available as digital downloads, but I'm wondering if they were ever made as a CD single, 7" vinyl, or even as a 12". I've been getting more and more into AiC and I've also been collecting physical singles lately.

BQ: How much physical singles do you own? Are the b-sides any good?

  • Should I just waste my money on Alice in Chains CDs, see them in concert tomorrow, or save my money?

Yeah, it's completely different without Layne, but there's still Jerry Cantrell, TOOL, and Linkin Park

  • What are some bands with the best guitar riffs from the 90s and 2000s?

Guitar riffs seemed to have decreased in those eras, but there still are some bands with great guitar riffs from those times. Are there any you would like to share?
