  • What's a "tribe" in the Arab world?

    Hi,

Frequently when I'm reading news about the Arab world the word "tribe" appears.

"Tribe A is still supporting Gaddafi"

"Saddam is of the tribe B"

"Tribe C has taken arms against Saleh"

But what's a tribe after all? Does it make any difference in practice if I belong to tribe A or B?

  • Is Algeria a democracy?

Last presidential elections the president was reelected with 90% of the votes. Sounds weird. Tell me about the political system. Tell me what you think.

Tell me about the political system of Morocco. I know that it is a constitutional monarchy but how powerful is the prime minister? Are elections fair?

  • Lebaneses: What do you think of the sectarian system in your country?

Are you in favour of a one-person one-vote system in which districts would not be divided based on religion and the prime minister as well as the president could be of any religion?

Tell me what do you think, and please tell me if you're a "diaspora" Lebanese or not.

  • Why do(did) Gandhi and Mandela support(ed) Palestine?

Gandhi about the Palestine question in 1938:

"Palestine belongs to the Arabs in the same sense that England belongs to the English or France to the French. It is wrong and inhuman to impose the Jews on the Arabs. What is going on in Palestine today cannot be justified by any moral code of conduct. The mandates have no sanction but that of the last war. Surely it would be a crime against humanity to reduce the proud Arabs so that Palestine can be restored to the Jews partly or wholly as their

national home. The nobler course would be to insist on a just treatment of

the Jews wherever they are born and bred. The Jews born in France are French in precisely the same sense that Christians born in France are French."

    http://www.countercurrents.org/pa-gandhi170903.htm

    Mandela's quotes:

"The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is not just an issue of military occupation and Israel is not a country that was established "normally" and happened to occupy another country in 1967. Palestinians are not struggling for a "state" but for freedom, liberation and equality, just like we were struggling for freedom in South Africa. "

"Israel was not thinking of a "state" but of "separation". The valua of separation is measured in terms of the ability of Israel to keep the Jewish state Jewish, and not to have a Palestinian minority that could have the opportunity to become a majority at some time in the future. If this takes place, it would force Israel to either become a secular democratic or bi-national state, or to turn into a state of apartheid not only de facto, but also de jure. "

"The so-called "Palestinian autonomous areas" are bantustans. These are restricted entities within the power structure of the Israeli apartheid system."

"The Palestinian state cannot be the by-product of the Jewish state, just in order to keep the Jewish purity of Israel. Israel's racial discrimination is daily life of most Palestinians. Since Israel is a Jewish state, Israeli Jews are able to accrue special rights which non-Jews cannot do. Palestinian Arabs have no place in a "Jewish" state. "

"Apartheid is a crime against humanity. Israel has deprived millions of Palestinians of their liberty and property. It has perpetuated a system of gross racial discrimination and inequality. "

  • Why is Jerusalem supposed to be so important for the jews considering that...?

They accepted the 1948 Partition Plan which did not include Jerusalem as its capital and signed an armistice after the First Arab-Israeli War with Jerusalem divided.

Now they can't live without the WHOLE Jerusalem? What changed between 1948-1949 and now? Jerusalem became holier?

  • Why did Israel elected two terrorists and one mass murderer as prime minister?

Menachem Begin (1977-1983) was part of the leadership of the terrorist organization Irgun which bombed the King David Hotel in Jerusalem in 1946 killing 91 people.

Yitzhak Shamir (1983-1984, 1986-1992) was part of the leadership of the terrorist organization Lehi which killed UN envoy Folke Bernadotte in 1948.

Ariel Sharon (2001-2006) allowed for Lebanese militias to enter the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Chatila to kill hundreds of civilians in 1982.

This question has been without justification denounced and deleted by Yahoo! So I'm posting it again. And if it is denounced again, I will post it again, again and again.

  • So what's the Israeli mighty solution to Hamastan problem in Gaza?

Israel is against the government of Hamas in Gaza. We all know that.

Israel wants Hamas out of Gaza. We all know that.

Israel can't or do not want to throw Hamas out of Gaza by force. We all know that.

Hamas and Fatah signed a pact. Mr. Binyamin "everything - that - Palestinians - do - I'll - use - as - an - excuse - to - delay - peace" Netanyahu sais he's against.

The pact will lead to election which will likely result in Fatah victory and the end of Hamastan in Gaza. Mr. Netanyahu is against it and decided to rob from Palestinians the tax collected from Palestinian imports.

So what's the Israeli mighty solution to the Hamastan problem in Gaza?

An earthquake that you'll drag them into earth?

  • Israelis: why do they react so badly to criticism?

So I was trying to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with this girl which I kindly called "Zionist Girl". First I had a hard time to try to convince her that I am not anti-semitic. Because you know, for them, if you criticize Israel you MUST be anti-semitic. Even if you're a jew. They call them self-hating jews.

Anyway, the discussion continued, most of the time with she avoiding to answer the serious issues raised by me. There she was calling me a hater all the time. Untill came a point where she simply said she would block me tellimg me I was a person full of hate. "You have to hate something, and you chose Israel" she said.

So I read again the messages I sent to her... And I asked myself? "Where is all that hate"? Here are the most offensive things I said to her:

    "Zionist girl"

I called American jews "Israeli proxies"

    "Jews play victimization game"

    "Israelis live in self delusion"

    "Netanyahu is crap"

Wow, how disgusting I am! Have you ever managed to have a serious discussion with an Israeli or Zionist without them yelling "ANTI-SEMITIC" or "HATER" at you?

    Entenderam?
