[I am an American, & am stating such, so hopefully no one will be angry or feel deceived] I love people, life, the outdoors, my pets, reading, gardening, and evenings in watching movies getting lost in another world, place or time. I find short attention span TV to be a great way to spark my interest to learn more... It makes me want to read, and understand more. Alot of history, military, animal channel type of thing. But being engaged by people is better. It's great when you can meet new people, and even better make a new friend. There is so much to learn in this life, so I enjoy it when I meet folks who will challenge me, engage me, teach me... I know that the world and life doesnt fall off at the borders of my country...and this has been a wonderful place to 'come to class' so to speak. I've met a few great people through here already, that have opened my eyes quite a bit...and to them, I am thankful/grateful. And if I'm fortunate, maybe I make some new friends

  • SAS-Searching for someone 'missing'...?

Would anyone know of any good available resources...for someone from the U.S. trying to find someone who is SAS and has seemed to have gone missing?

Someone very dear to me...I've been worried sick, and I am just desperate to know what's become of him.

  • Can someone explain to me, why it seems the British dislike Americans so?

    I'm American, by the by.

I came to this website on a lark, and stayed because I thought the questions/answers given here were very well thought out. Many here take the time to answer, engage one another, challenge one another, and I think it is just great.

But it also seems that quite a few comments I see on here, some have a true dislike for Americans.

I (in my stupidity, and learning...) have come to find why the term "Yank" is an insult/mean.

I guess I'm just asking, because maybe there is something more that I don't understand. And folks here have always been really helpful with the answers...so...ok, fire away, I'll duck, find my crash helmet...learn from the answers...and hopefully it won't be held against me that I'm from the other side of the pond.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Fear of Water: How does one get 'a head' of having water over their head?

I had not learned to swim until after I was 10 years of age. A friend taught me in her swimming pool. Even though I am a pretty strong swimmer, and am at home and fine with water for the most part...I have this enormous fear of being caught under the water.

I am an outdoor girl and love camping, hiking, fishing, rock climbing, canoeing...I'm fine with all of that, but would love to take up kayaking for exercise and relaxation...and the whole idea of possibly rolling, and panicking if I'm not able to get my head out of the water quickly... How does one get past that fear?

It's destroying my desire to pursue a couple of things - kayaking, scuba - it's just awful.

I love the water, but get a little panicked at the idea of water over the head...
