locking stifle. does this make the horse a pleasure horse only?
I have recently discovered my 5 year old gelding has Locking Stifle and I was wondering, those who had horses with it what was the work load after that? and what treatment plans are there besides strengthening the muscles with hill work and walking/trotting.
PLEASE no rude answers or telling me to consult a vet. vet is getting called as soon as I get paid this week.
8 AnswersHorses8 years agohorse is doing weird movement in his hocks or hips not sure?
This is hard to explain but here it goes
my 5 year old ex reining horse (I got him when he was 3 and stopped with the reining as soon as I got him. not a reiner so) this doesn't happen all the time but his hock gets stuck to the point where his toe drags and he has to like pop it when he walks. I can't tell if its in the stifle, hip, or hock tho Its not every step or something that happens every day. in fact the last two times its happened I couldn't see it. He has done it in the past but it doesn't seem to happen when I keep up on his joint supplement. I have never heard of this happening or seen it happening and was just wondering if anyone had any idea on it?
Please don't tell me I need a vet as I know this and will be getting one out asap.

2 AnswersHorses10 years agoBest Way to Treat Navicular?
A week ago I took my horse to the vet and we found out she had Navicular. Its in the Beginning stages, and my friend is going to school and studying this. She is my girl, She was my first horse and I love her to death. I used her for Barrel Racing, Drill team Show Jumping, we did alot and she loves it. I was completely crushed when I found out. I came to the conclusion that as long as she was happy in no Pain I was ok with not using her and making it worse, even tho it tears me up all I want is for her to be happy. My friends who have dealt with Navicular, have all told me different methods and Several different things that cancel out what the other someone else has said.
My friend told me to research my options because she told me horses are often misdiagnosed with Navicular. She also said that because it was early enough that I might be able to reverse it. I have been researching my options on things I can do. I have my farrier coming out to do the Corrective shoeing. I have been reading different Article's but my brain has turned into mush.
If you have a horse that was diagnosed with Navicular, what were Questions you asked the vet? What steps did you take for your horse to be healthy again? what types of Medicine did you give your horse?
Also, I have thought about turning her into a broodmare, but was told that the Navicular would be passed on to the foal? Is that True or False?
PLEASE NO RUDE ANSWERS! I have never dealt with this before and it came as a shock. I studied it before but it was years ago. I am taking her back to the vet in a couple weeks since she is on stall rest for a different injury that led us to find the Navicular. And I want to have different options to discuss with him.
4 AnswersHorses10 years agoOk, can some one explain Splints to me further more? Or if my horse Has Splints?
Tonight I showed up to ride and found my horse had a weird bump on her leg. I asked a few people if how concerned I should be and I got Answers from just a bump that comes and goes to Could be Cancer. It wasn't hot, she didn't react to the touch (and some people were like poking it kinda hard), It was mainly hard but had just a little bit of squishy too it. She wasn't limping and I have Sports boots on her so People said try riding her. well she acted fine so Stupid me did anyway. It didn't make it get bigger or anything but I feel I shouldn't have rode. (I'm a complete idiot sometimes)
I was starting to google to look for an answer. it when A lady who knows a lot about horses after hearing the description said it sounds like Splints. I am freaked and confused cause in everything it said most horses they are spotted by 5 and are in young horses being overworked. Which is wierd because my horse is 8 and just came back from 3 months of stall rest a month ago and I have been taking it easy on her. I have read that depending on the case it could require surgery which scares me cause I'm out a horse again and I have huge shows and Parades coming up.
Note: I AM CALLING A VET TOMORROW! PLEASE DON'T YELL AT ME. I just want more information. and yes I am an idiot for riding anyway I don't need yelled at about that.
3 AnswersHorses10 years agoYeah so my horse is kind of gone crazy?
my horse was out with an injury for 3 months, I brought back to my drill team (Which she loves more than anything) after building her back up. Last night in class she was CRAZY, she wouldn't do her correct leads or lead changes, she pulled thru the Bit, wouldn't stop and even reared a few times(not high but I don't put up with rearing. I hate when people think its fun or Let their horse get away with it). some people are telling me I brought her in to early and I need to pull her again (note these people hate the fact I have a horse so they just want to not have me ride her cause shes the best trained horse for it when she behaves) but I think shes just excited, Shes kind of the only horse I have trained for it and I really don't want to pull her back out but at the same time she isn't safe if she acts like that. She seems to be getting worse too. Some one said she looks board which wouldn't surprise me cause we aren't running as fast as she wants to be. I'm not scared of her or anything I just want some good honest advice from people who aren't going to give me bias opinions.
No rude or mean commits, I just want to do whats best for my horse and I am not getting answer from the people I know.
5 AnswersHorses10 years agoReally scared I am going to loose my dog!?
SO tonight I got home to find my grandmother, my brother and my neighbors at my house. Apparently my Dog (Who is in training) got out, she is pretty much still a puppy and started trying to play a game. Long story short I guess my Neighbors son was trying to help catch my dog and after they got her cornered he grabbed her and she freaked and snapped at him. She bite him and now I don't know what will happen. I don't know where she bite him but I have heard the arm leg and Face from my neighbors (their story wasn't very straight.) She is current on Rabies and all her shots, she has Never bite or snapped at anyone before and honestly I am really shocked that she snapped at the kid.
SO I guess my question is What will most likely happen? and if the family pressed, how much pressing before the chance she might be put down?
8 AnswersDogs10 years agoHow would I find a horse?
I found out my horse has a full sister and I really want to find out if they are alike or what. I can't find much so I am wondering if I am missing something. the horses name is Ms Genuine Wild Rose. her Sire is RN Doctor Pepper and her Dam is Peponita Bandito. I have come to the conclusion I may never find out but I think it would be cool if I did. besides Google is there anything else I could try?
If you happen to own/know who owns this horse (or Peponita Bandito) you should message me I would love to chat.
4 AnswersHorses10 years agoEver heard of this type of Guitar?
I have a S101 Acoustic Guitar D41440. its BRAND new. I got it a couple months ago as a gift and I've realized that I just don't have time to learn how to play and it just sits and collects dust. I've decided to sell it but I'm not sure how much to ask for it. SO I was wondering how much they are Brand New, and/or How much would YOU offer for it?
3 AnswersPerforming Arts1 decade agoI'm SO confused, concered and frankly Scared.?
I have been trying to keep up with the Outbreak of the Equine Herpiesvires (EHV-1). I just read that that is also the Rhino? My horse has been vaccinated but I read that doesn't really stop it.
It has broken out in Colorado and I was at a show on Saturday where there was a possible Breakout. I just found out about this today. I Have 4 horses and I am keeping a close eye on 4 of them considering I can't live without them. Minus Keeping my horses separated (which is going to be kinda hard since my boarding facility is almost out of room and Not Really a quarantine area since we are having to Quarantine horses for other reasons.) My biggest concern is my horse that was with me saturday, is next to a horse that is really old and I don't want her to catch it.
I also work with several horses at my barn so?
So i guess my questions are
WHat exactly is this?
Is it Rhino and if so HOw well does the vaccination work?
What should I be looking for?
How NOT to get it?
and How to keep from spreading it?

8 AnswersHorses1 decade agoI have a horse that does can do everything...?
Ok so I ride everything and I trained my horse for everything and she loves doing whatever i ask her. We tried are hand at Show jumping, then got attacked I mean full on attacked about it. shes mainly a barrel horse but LOVES jumping. She took off and ran the jumping course without my guidance, that's how much she loves it. We kinda suck but were getting better at it. Any way I rodeo and these people who hate rodeo and only Show Jump told me that I was abusive for "forcing" and i sucked and everything pointed out ALL my flaws (thought they pissed me off but they honestly just helped me) ANYWAY is it possible cause I push our show jumping dream too, that Im abusing her because we suck at it? This may sound stupid and i know the only reason she said it is cause shes jealous. We all start somewhere but by doing so much with her , not over working but just so much am I in the wrong?
8 AnswersHorses1 decade agoThinking about Quitting my Job?
I work at my stables and do little jobs to earn extra money. one of my jobs is too clean a horse's pen as often as I can for $20/month, even tho I do much more than that. The lady knows it and I don't complain about the under pay but I haven't gotten paid for last month or this month, only that is just one reason I want to quit. the lady leases out her horse and even tho the leaser is a good friend outside of horses, she isn't a good one with horses, outside of our weekly lessons, she shows up rides the horse every once and a while, she never warms up or cools off properly, just stuff like that. people have told the girl (including me) she needs to take better care of the horse and she just goes I don't have time or IM too busy. I broke my ankle this summer and she had time to go out before her lessons and clean his pen to help me out and she just left it for me and hung out with a friend instead. I want to quit but I know if I don't take care of the horse then no one will, but I don't have any extra time now that school is starting again. I have two horses to take care of myself and I get paid to take care of another one, I have homework and soon hopefully an actual job. I am 16 and I've never complained about anything but I'm sick and tired of the way they treat the horse, her telling me what to do with my horses, the drama and the underpay/never being paid on time, but the horses safety is what keeps me from quitting so far. Im lost on what I should do.
7 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhite Line Disease in the hoof?

2 AnswersHorses1 decade agoSo I don't quite understand 2-point?
I know my hand placings aren't right but Im confused on 2-point. Im getting back into English and Jumping and I don't remember anything about it. My trainer is out of town and I don't want to wait for her to come back to ask her. What is a 2-point exactly? ALSO from the picture is there anything else you can tell me to work on? sorry that's the only picture of me jumping.
I know Im not wearing a helmet, had a bad experience and don't wear them anymore, so NO RUDE COMMITS ABOUT NOT WEARING ONE PLEASE!
