What effect will the oil spill have on the evaporation rate of the water in the gulf of Mexico? Assume a very thin film of oil completely covered the entire surface of the water. Will this decrease the evaporation rate of the water? How much less water will evaporate every day.

Why do they have doppler radar in southern California? The last time a tornado hit southern California was in the Pleistocene era. Are they expecting the north and south poles to change position again?
When tropical stoms come up, why can't they just track them using normal 11 gigaherz weather radar and report on how fast they are moving.
Hint: I think the north pole used to be near Modesto.
1 AnswerEarth Sciences & Geology1 decade agoEffect of Doppler radar on water vapor?
In the 1950's Irving Langmuir was able to control the average annual rainfall in the US using cloud seeding.
There are 158 Doppler radar stations in the continental US. Each NEXRAD station consumes up to 75 Kilowatts in the klystron at peak power.
Peak power is associated with detecting water vapor by transmitting wavelengths of about 1.5 centimeters. Frederick Townes, inventor of the maser, predicted that 50% of 1.5 cm radar would be absorbed by water vapor in the atmosphere.
How much NEXRAD radar energy is absorbed by water vapor each day?
How many water vapor molecules are heated up by Doppler Radar?
How much is the average water molecule heated by the NEXRAD system?
What effect would this have on daily rainfall? A millionth? A billionth?
