Commercial driver's rights during police encounter?
I am a fairly new truck driver. I am aware of my rights so far as refusing searches and such in a personal vehicle. However, I am unclear what rights I have while operating a commercial vehicle. Would someone please explain how my rights differ as a commercial driver operating a commercial vehicle?
4 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police7 years agoWhen did we become so overly concerned with the "needs" of others?
It is getting so I can't go anywhere without hearing somebody tell somebody else what that somebody "needs" to do, say, be, or have. When were politely phrased requests replaced by officious orders and thinly veiled threats? An I the only one that feels the whole "you need to..." thing really "needs to" go?
5 AnswersEtiquette9 years agoPipe-friendly tobacconist, Orange County CA?
I recently started smoking a pipe again. I have been in search of the Czech made pipe tool (I keep losing them). I visited three tobacconists and two drug stores before I finally gave up looking. I had to explain to two clerks (they both worked at a tobacco shop, mind you) exactly what I was looking for. Are there any old fashioned tobacconists left in Orange County, CA?
1 AnswerLos Angeles9 years agoThe legalities of living wild?
I have done some small research into this question, and I find myself wholly unsatisfied. Is it possible to live as a wild man without legal implications? This would entail hunting/fishing/trapping for sustenance and owning no land.
This idea is often represented as the “American spirit”, that of independence and freedom, but I can think of several laws off the top of my head I think such a lifestyle would violate. Please tell me I’m wrong and that such a lifestyle is still possible?
Please, answers from those who have done it or members of the legal community (LEOs welcome).
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics10 years agoCan I refuse to hire a non-smoker?
This is in California, private property, fewer than 5 employees, so if we all consent, smoking can be permitted. I know a company can refuse to hire a smoker, but is the reverse true? Can you refuse to hire someone simply because of being a non-smoker?
3 AnswersLaw & Legal1 decade agoCan an employer require observance during the National Anthem?
All opinions about who died and sacrificed for what aside, please. Can an employer in the state of California require its employees, under penalty of discipline up to and including termination, to observe the National Anthem?
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoOld desktop theme from A Better View?
I want a copy of the Behind The Times desktop theme from the defunct publisher A Better View. Its freeware, and I cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone have a copy they could share, or could they maybe put me in contact with the person or persons that ran A Better View. I miss this theme and will pay the publisher a reasonable price for it.
1 AnswerDesktops1 decade agoHow do I cope with my wife's adult children? She is the non-custodial parent. They have become disrespectful.
Not just to me, but to her as well. I understand that a certain amount of resentment exists because she is no longer married to "Dad" and I now fill her bed. But I'm tired of being cut into on my IM or picking up the telephone just to read or hear "Get my Mom" barked at me. I don't expect comraderie, mind you, just respect as a fellow human being. I have tried being nice, she has talked to them, but to no avail. Recently, they have begun treating her as odiously. The consensus is that the father has turned them against her, as for years he allowed her no contact with the kids, going so far as to move and change the phone number without forwarding information. Contact was recently re-established online.
My question is; What is wrong, and what can be done? I'll not be a doormat, nor will I allow anyone to treat my wife as such either. We have been left wondering, is it just time to sever contact altogether?
7 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoIs there any way to drink Mexican tap water and not get ill? I am moving to Mexico.?
Is there any quick way to get used to Mexican tap water? Like a system or even just a vaccine (preferably oral)? I am moving to Mexico for a while and wish to live as a native.
16 AnswersOther - Mexico1 decade agoWhy is the word "Motherf*cker" so popular these days?
When broken down into its componants, it directly accuses one of intercourse with a mother, presumably one's own. How and why is a word like this so popular these days? Does it have a meaning of which I am not aware?
