  • How to do well again sophomore year?

I finished my freshman year last year, and I did much better than I expected I would. In a week, I will be starting my sophomore year, and I am a little nervous. I'm just afraid that I won't do as well this year. How hard is sophomore year compared to freshman year? I'm doing all honors and AP World this year, so what can I expect from those classes? Plus, I'll be doing lots of extracurriculars this year, so how can I balance schoolwork and clubs? If I work really hard, can I still maintain, if not exceed, what I did last year?

  • Is this considered leadership?

My siblings and I are starting a tutoring business soon. Is that considered a leadership activity to colleges?

  • How do we advertise for out tutoring business?

My siblings and I are thinking about starting a tutoring business. We are still working on the fine details and the technical aspects, but besides that, what are some good ways to get the word out about it? We tried to get our mom to talk to some people, but they just sounded uninterested. One of our other ideas is to make mini fliers and pass them out to people or hang them on people's mailboxes.

  • Would this look good for colleges?

My brother, sister, and I are thinking about starting a tutoring business by the end of the summer. We are still working on it though, but if it is successful, would it look good on a college application?

  • Volunteering and College?

I just finished freshman year and I did no volunteer work. However, sophomore year, I am going to try a lot. I already applied to volunteer at a local street fair, and I am hoping to volunteer at the library or the local co-op when the school year starts. Also, I will be joining a volunteer club at school. I hope to start volunteering at a hospital in the springtime and maybe help out at church with Sunday school my junior year. Even though I did no volunteering my freshman, if I stick with what I am doing now, will that impress colleges?

  • SAT II's/Subject Tests?

I just finished my freshman year of high school, and today I was reading about how colleges want you to take a few SAT Subject tests. So that got me wondering, when exactly should I take these? Should I take them after I finish a course? I'm not really sure if I should take them my sophomore or my junior year. I had a pretty good grade in biology, so I am contemplating taking the Biology subject test. But.... do you think it is too late for me to take it? My friend just took it, so I could ask her about it.

  • How/when did you know what you wanted to be?

I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out what I want to do after high school (I'm a rising sophomore by the way). What college should I go to? What should I major in? What career do I see myself in? Those are all the questions that are swirling through my head right now. There are so many things I want to do, how can I choose just one? Basically my question is this: was there a certain point when you just knew what you wanted to do with your life? How did you figure that out?

  • HELP!!!! Really am worried about this?

I just bought a Pentax k1000, seeing as to how I am a beginner at photography. I decided to try and load film today, and I was looking on to a guide. After loading, I pressed the shutter release a few times (3 or 4 I think) and the rewind knob turned like the sheet said it was supposed to if the film was loaded correctly. Then, I decided just to take a few more shots, just around the house. But after I took these shots, I realized that the exposure counter didn't move at all. It just stayed at like 2 little dots before zero. Now, I don't know what this means, so what does it mean? Did I do something wrong along the way? Or is it something I shouldn't really be worried about?

  • Help with Cross Country?

This is the first year that I am trying Cross Country. I've been going to the summer running camp for about a month now, and I have seen improvements in myself. But, I'm still really bad compared to everyone else. I know I should just care about getting better, but I'm having a really hard time dealing with this. It just makes me feel so bad about myself, as if I don't belong there. I have friends on the team and they encourage me, but I still feel bad. And recently, my weekly mileage has been fluctuating a lot. Some weeks it will be up, and some weeks it will be down. I'm just having a really hard time getting motivated to run. I feel so tired all the time. I feel like I should just quit it all together, but I don't want my friends to be mad at me and I just don't want to give up so easily. I'm worried about what others on the team will think. I try to run as much as I can but I just get so discouraged. I'm sorry this is sounding like more of a rant, but what should I do? I really need some advice right now. Any and all answers are appreciated. Thanks.

  • Question about Asian haircuts?

I really love Asian hair!! But I'm not Asian, and I have hair that is moderately thick and is curly. Do you think I could/should still get one? I could straighten it most days. I have a few that I am interested in. They aren't too complex or spiky, they are a bit more on the simplistic side. Here are the ones I am interested in:

    1. http://www.beauty-box.jp/style/medium/207cl.html

    2. http://www.beauty-box.jp/style/medium/112r.html

    3. http://www.beauty-box.jp/style/medium/187.html

I plan to get these cut at the end of the summer so I have a chance to grow my hair out longer. But my questions are: do you think, with my hair type, I could pull off any of these haircuts? and which of these haircuts do you like best? So far, I am leaning towards the second and third ones. Thanks in advance! Any and all answers are appreciated.

  • Best cars for a new teen driver?

I know this may be a little too early to ask, but i'm getting my license in March 2010. However, my parents said that if I keep my grades up and I am responsible, they will let me get my own car. They said if I am extra good that they would consider buying me a new car. So far, I have been looking at some cars. I've gone on kbb.com and looked up the pros and cons of each one. So I just want to see what others would recommend. I want people to take into consideration the price, comfort, reliability, gas mileage, and the actual quality of the car. The cars I am considering are (in no specific order):

    1.Toyota Prius

    2.Honda Insight

    3.Toyota Corolla

    4.Honda Accord

    5.Honda Civic

    6.Toyota Camry

The only car I actually have experience driving with is the Toyota Corolla, so I am seriously considering that one because I actually know where things are and how to operate it. In my Driver's Ed class we will be driving either the Ford Focus or the Ford Fusion. Which one of the cars I listed do you think is best? Or has the most bang for your buck? All answers are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Is this enough exercise to lose weight?

I've been running for the past two weeks now. I run 2 at least 1-2 miles 4-6 days a weeks, and I rest on Sundays. I've also been trying to eat healthier, but I'm still struggling with that aspect. But if I try my very best to exercise most days and stick to a healthy diet, do you think I could lose 10-20 lbs by the beginning of August or the end of July? If you have any other tips, that would be great! Thanks in advance!

  • What should I eat...?

I'm wondering what I should eat for lunch and dinner today. I'm trying my best to eat healthy. So far, this morning I have only had a bowl of Special K (the red berries kind). I'm thinking as a snack before lunch I could have some fresh cut strawberries and a granola bar. Also for a snack between lunch and dinner I'm thinking some lightly salted plain yogurt or a small serving of tortilla chips and salsa. But other than my snacks, I have no idea what to eat for lunch or dinner. I was thinking maybe some pasta for lunch and maybe like a sandwich for dinner. Are these healthy choices? If not, could you suggest some meal ideas?

  • Pentax k1000 help.....again?

Hi I just got an Asahi Pentax k1000 today. This is my first SLR camera and I am new to photography as a whole. The man who was selling me the camera said there was no film inside. When I left where I met the man, the exposure counter said 1 on it. But once I got home and played with the camera and the shutter release button for a little while, the exposure counter said 5. Is this normal, even though there is no film in the camera?

  • Help??? How to open the back up?

Hi I just got an Asahi Pentax k1000 today. This is my first SLR camera and I am new to photography as a whole. The man selling the camera to me showed me how to open the back, but I completely forgot what he showed me! Could someone please help me?? I try pulling up the rewind crank, but I just don't know what I am doing wrong. I also tried to look at the manual, but it was a little confusing. Also, I looked up similar questions, and the answerers say to apply pressure. But I don't know what they are talking about. Could somebody please help me, give me instructions, send me a video, or tell me what I am doing wrong? Any and all help is appreciated.

  • How to bring down my mile time?

Right now, my mile time is about 8:10. By the end of summer I want it to be under 7:00. I will be doing Cross Country training over the summer (three days a week), and they run minimum 4 miles a day. Other than that, my friend and I will also be running around our neighborhood for three other days a week. Will running this much over the summer help my time come down? Will it also help me lose 10-15 pounds? (I'm 5' 2" and I weigh closer to 120 lbs)

  • Do you think this is too much?

Ok, I have gotten my schedule for next year and here is what I have:

    Commercial Photography 1 and 2

    AP World History

    Precalculus (Gifted)

    Gifted Chemistry

    Gifted Sophomore Language Arts

    and

    Honors French III

Next year I will be a sophomore, and some people have told me that is too much and that I should ease up. I just wanted to know, does it seem that much? I want to challenge myself, but some of my friends said that is a lot to be taking on? Should I request class changes?
