  • ignorant things people say about hip hop which annoy you?

Inb4 "Lil Wayne is GOAT" that's not ignorance, it's opinion

For me it's when people say Lil Wayne is the hardest working person in the game right now because he has so many geust features. B*tch please, Snowgoons are planning on releasing at least (as far as I know) 4 studio albums this year with different emcees, Count Bass D released four studio albums last year, then you think about cats like Statik Selektah who released five albums last year, plus provided production for several other albums. And if you say that's just producers what about Blu, who put out five albums/mixtapes last year?

Also people who call it rap music. It's hip hop. Calling it rap music is like calling rock sing music, makes no sense. Music can contain rap without being hip hop as well, Linkin Park, at times RHCP, Rage Against the Machine.

BQ: Favourite album from a Boston artist?

BQ2: Which rappers do you think are huge hip hop heads? And by that I mean which rappers do you think spend time trawling blogs to find new cats, rather than just check out artists when they drop albums with semi-famous producers/geust features?

  • albums considered classic which you thought were only average at best?

I say Ras Kass - Soul on Ice. Average beats, not as lyrical as I expected it to be, sure it was concious but there were few great examples of great poetic device, plus his flow and delivery are average.

    bq: snoowgoons recs?

bq2: blue sky black death recs

bq3: buy or sell: Thuggin by Freddie Gibbs and Madlib is the best hip hop track released in several years?

Anyone want some recs? Shag, dope producer, Dilla/Nujabes esque. David Dallas, from my home country, but on Buckshot's label, did a song with Freddie Gibbs, it was hella dope. J. Good, his album the brightside was one of my favourites last year, dope production on it and his flow and lyricism were always on point.

  • rate Ras Kass Soul on Ice?

I Listened to it for the first time today having heard it's a classic, but I disagree. 7/10 at best imo, beats were boring, his flow isn't great and while it's concious he still isn't overly lyrical.

    Other Ras Kass recs?

    Bq: Snowgoons recs?

  • please rate my rhymes yo yo?

Now keep in mind that I dunno how this verse is gunna start, but this is what I have so far:

Rappers these days are kinda pescatarian

Cats afraid to go the whole way, no vegetarians

    Ohps! Vegan's what I'm meaning, I'll end

The fakeness they believe in, leaving these heathens

On a pile of fags, smoke is what they breathin

Thanks to my miles of brags, the styles I have

Cut they're smiles in half and down to hell they're dragged

They call me a scavanger, say I stole the styles I have

But I'm not having it, I'm breaking my convictions to hunt

And kill those that lag in this world called rap

Probably needs three bars at the start and a nother couple at the end, but that's what I've got

  • five best discographies in the game?

    I say, in no order:

    Common

    OutKast

    Kanye West

    GZA

    CunninLynguists

11 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop9 years ago
  • Who do you think is a better lyricist: Inspectah Deck or the GZA?

Personally, I always thought the GZA was the tied best emcee ever, but listening to Duel of the Iron Mic, Inspectah Deck kills that song, he kills Triumph, he kills C.R.E.A.M, he kills every beat. The only thing which hurts him is his threadbare solo work, but having only listened to Uncontrolled Substance I can't really judge

  • is anybody in this section up on their five percenter knowledge?

For me it's strange. Becuase, having heard so many references to it in music, and building up a semi-mostly still ignorant-knowledge of what being a five percenter meant I actually spent some time studying it and some of the stuff (people as Gods, no spook-Gods, 10%s, Suns and Moons etc) made a lot of sense to me, but some of the other stuff, for me as a white kid, was a bit off putting.

Any similar experiances with five percent knowledge? Anything oyu particularly wanna know about it (I'll try my best to answer)? ANything you like about it? Anyone follow it as their religion?

    bq: favourite five percenter emcee?

    Bq2: What's your religion?

bq3: Any christians out there, does it weird you out listening to muslim emcees? I had a friend who stopped listening to Lupe after hearing Muhammed Walks

  • buy or sell: people put too much emphasis on an artists ability to diss?

For instance, I told someone I think Qwel > Eminem, then they said well Eminem has won way more battle raps than Qwel so Eminem is better. Or people saying Hopsin is good because he will diss anybody. Who cares? The Wu never got involved in beefs (well, the GZA did, but you can't call 50 getting murdered by a song off frickin pro tools a proper beef) but they're almost all better than Eminem, Chino XL, Jay Z, Hopsin, Tupac and several other rappers with highly publisised beefs. All a beef shows is that you can write a good diss, doesn't say anything about your storytelling abilities or any of the other types of rap song there are.

    BQ: Favourite diss track?

BQ2: Eminem has the most overhyped beefs ever? Seriously look at the list of people he's dissed, Mariah Carey, Benzino, Michael Jackson, Lil' Kim, just a list of cats who were either whack, being hated by the media , or washed up.

BQ3: buy or sell: Raekwon has the best verse on MBDTF? (not necassarily lyrically, but in terms of flow, delivery, lyrics etc)

BQ4: Which do you prefer the beats on Only Built for CUban Linx or Liquid Swords?

  • buy or sell: Boog Brown is the most underated femcee?

She's better than Jean Grae imo and Brown Study was a top 15 2010 album imo, but I never see her mentioned. Maybe she's undermentioned rather than underrated, but still a dope femcee that needs more cred.

  • buy or sell: Vast Aire is the most inconsistent emcee, lyrically?

Don't get gassed, he's one of my favourite emcees, Cold Vein is imo a top five album, but sometimes you listen to his lines and it's like dayum that's dope, but other times he's just straight whack. Like on the same track he has the line "I rest my head on 115th/But miracles only happen on 34th/So I geuss life is mean/And death is the median and purgatpry is the mode/mould that we settle in" and then the line "N*ggas walk around New York with two fillings/One is in the mouth the other does the killing." I mean, I get what he's saying with the second line, it just isn't a good line.

    Bq: Most consistent lyricist?

Bq2: Buy or sell: Blu has the best rhyme schemes of any emcee since G Rap?

  • buy or sell: the best mainstream rappers > best underground rappers?

for instance, Jay Z, Nas, OutKast, at their peak the Wu Tang are all better than DOOM, Willie Evans Jr, R.A The Rugged Man, Immortal Technique etc

Basically, there are whack mainstream rappers and whack underground rappers, but the best of the mainstream is significantly better than the best of the underground, therefroe Manstream>Underground

BQ: Did yall hear what Hex Murda said about Queens hip hop? Basically he said that the best is Pharoe Monch, then Kool G Rap, then Nas. Thoughts?

  • slept on 2010 albums?

I'm listening to Brown Study by Boog Brown and Apollo Brown and it's hella dope, I don't think I even heard it mentioned anywhere last year, just saw it randomly on Beatbox Radio Show (a dope blog if you don't know) and it's hella dope. Apollo is, as always, on point with the beats, and Boog brown is a suprisingly dope female emcee, although this is the first I've heard of her.

Mind Joe Lp by Joe Kickass is another one which comes to mind

Substantial and Markus D are Bop Alloy is also hella dope

    BQ: Boog Brown reqs?

BQ2: Buy or sell: Apathy is cliche as hell?

BQ3: Female emcees are, by default, more underground than equally dope male emcees?
