Will we recover from the current age of McCarthyism?
It has gotten progressively worse over the last decade or so but has rocketed to a new level in the last year. The extreme right wing regularly use words like socialism and communism, saying our elected leaders are not only making mistakes but are out to destroy the country. This is eerily similar to what happened 60 years ago, a period that is now viewed as a stain on American history. We thought the American people had progressed beyond this point but it is clear that fear and ignorance is easily used as a tool to control people once again. Even if Republicans gain a majority again I can see the roles reversed and those on the far left making equally absurd claims.
My question is do you think this is a cycle and that we will once again see through the farce or is this a new permanent state of politics and American culture?
9 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhy do people still believe the death panel myth?
No where does the bill talk about review panels of any sort for these end of life decisions. It clearly states:
‘‘Advance Care Planning Consultation‘‘
(hhh)(1) Subject to paragraphs (3) and (4), the
term ‘advance care planning consultation’ means a consultation between the individual and a practitioner described in paragraph (2) regarding advance care planning, if, subject to paragraph (3), the individual involved has not had such a consultation within the last 5 years. Such consultation shall include the following:
I'm not going to list all the patient's rights listed but you get the idea.
13 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoCan you recommend some good PS3 games?
I typically like RPGs or action/adventure games. I just don't like FPS games on consoles. I'm used to playing FPSs on the PC and don't care for the console controls.
Here are some games I like or have played to give you an idea of what I like.
Final Fantasy - all of the RPGs, no so much a fan of the tactics or fighting games
Heavenly Sword - reason I bought the PS3, liked it
GOW - waiting on GOW3
Uncharted - enjoyed the action/shooter type (much better then pure shooter)
Folklore - got kind of boring part way through
Prince of Persia - loved the PS2 games, hated the PS3 version
Assasin's Creed - became very boring very fast, too repatitive
There are others but you get the idea. I'm not really into sports or racing games unless I'm playing my buddy in the room with me so we can talk smac.
Thanks.
4 AnswersPlayStation1 decade agoPronunciations for Beethoven's 9th?
Does anyone know a link where I can find the pronunciations broken out for Beethoven's Symphony No 9? This will be my first performance in German and I wanted to get a head start before we start rehearsals. I've searched online with no luck.
3 AnswersClassical1 decade agoGood games for PS3? (or other system)?
Let me start out by saying I don't like first person shooters much. I'm mainly into RPG's and some action. I loved most of the Final Fantasy games (with 7 maybe being all time favorite game). Zelda, Xenogears, etc. Most of you are probably too young to have played these types of games when things like an interesting storyline and gameplay were important because graphics sucked. More recently I liked the Prince of Persia games for PS2 (the new PS3 one blows). God of War was also great. Waiting for God of War 3 is pretty much the only reason I still consider my PS3 a game machine and not just a blu-ray player.
Anyway, with that can anyone recommend some good games.
2 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 decade agoShould we circumcise son (what do women prefer)?
My wife and I are trying to determine if we are going to circumcise our son (due in 4 months). We always thought we would with little thought as it is the norm in U.S., or at least it was. Now with the number approaching more along 50/50 of boys that are or are not circumcised, I’m leaning against it. I’ve done all the research and feel it doesn’t matter much one way or the other. I’ve heard the horror stories one way or the other and they don’t sway me either way. I’m circumcised and have absolutely no regrets, actually I’m glad I was.
When it comes down to it pretty much every woman I know prefers a circumcised male (they think it looks better and is cleaner). I know this is probably low down on the scale of things to worry about but I want my son to be happy when he grows up. I think with the change in numbers (cut vs. not cut) this perception will change in the future. The only reason I would want to get it done is for aesthetic reasons that I doubt will apply in another 20 years. I know I could just give him the option but like most surgeries they get much worse as you get older (I had my tonsils out at 31).
