  • WHO could I contact to get the rightful benefits for being a caregiver to a disabled veteran?

My b/f has multiple sclerosis, and it is progressively getting worse. For the past 2 years I have assisted him out of bed, with dressing, bathing, etc. December 09, he was physically forced to take an EARLY RETIREMENT based on disability. The only thing he does for himself is feed himself, and go to the bathroom(where he requires assistance). The army says he didn't contract MS while in the military, although he was showing the symptoms, thus he is ineligible for full veterans benefits. I had a GOOD paying job, got laid off for 3 months, but when I was called back, I elected not to return as my b/f needed me at home. I don't get a day off. I have to be here to get him up every day, dress him, fix his meals. I can get out for a few hours BUT ONLY IF HE WEARS HIS ALARM AROUND HIS NECK so that if he falls, slides out of his chair, etc..he can get help. I have to be back in time to prepare his dinner, and put him to bed when he is ready, and this is sometimes 3a.m. I get NO PAY for this, and if anyone says anything about it, I do it for ROOM AND BOARD. I feel that there has to be financial help out there for me as well as physical.

  • Myth, Folklore, or Superstition..what*s it underlying meaning?

I have heard all my life (45 years) that it is bad luck to cut a newborn/toddler*s hair BEFORE their first birthday. My grandson will be turning one year old on May 22nd, 2007. My daughter asked me this afternoon what the *bad luck* was supposed to be, and I couldn*t answer her. Come on now Mom*s, Dad*s, Grandparent*s, Aunt*s, Uncle*s, or anyone who can help settle this in her mind. (Her grandma threatened to whoop her backside if she got the baby*s hair cut before his birthday)

  • No gimmicks, smart alec answers....need to hear from others that have quit smoking . What worked for u?

I have been a smoker for 28 long years, tried numerous times to quit. The longest I was able to hold out was 3 days. Out of my immediate family, only my 27 year old daughter doesn*t smoke,(Thank God) I*m getting on up in age, and have concerns for my health, as well as second hand smoke and it*s effect on my grandchildren. My bf isn*t a smoker ,he hasn*t said anything but I know that this concerns him. I*ve tried the patches...a no go..they caused me to break out in a rash. Tried the zyban pills once....couldn*t remember to take them.(I*m not a daily medicine type person). Tried going cold turkey....the withdrawals became so intense till on the 3rd day I gave in and lit one up. I have no health insurance and can*t afford financially to experiment with this new drug that they have out($110 for a month supply) Anyone having quit that can share How they did it, What worked for them would be greatly appreciated.
