  • When switching infant formula, if it gets worse right away, could it eventually get better?

I know when switching formula, they recommend you give it at least two weeks to notice a change. What if it gets worse right away? My daughter was spitting up so my doctor switched her formula and she spit up more and had some constipation. I took her off the formula after only two days because it just didn't seem right.

Anyone have experience with formula switching and if it might have gotten better after it got worse?

  • Anyone had a bad experience with infant probiotics?

I started my daughter on probiotics last week because her gas was so awful. She's also starting spitting up something awful once a day. It's not usually after the probiotic bottle, but hours later.

Just curious to see if anyone else had a bad experience with probiotics.

  • Liquid poo and spitting up on Alimentum?

My 5 week old has been having major gas for the last few weeks. At 2 weeks, we switched her to Similac Sensitive and after 3 weeks, there was no change and she started spitting up horribly--chunky and smelling like vomit. I brought her to the doctor, who said she had slight reflux and wanted to try Similac Sensitive for Spit-up (Alimentum was suggested first but she said try the RS before the expensive stuff). We started the SS for Spit-up on Monday. By Wednesday morning, her spit up had increased, she wasn't sleeping and crying in such pain. I know I should wait more than two days but I couldn't bear it, I went right to he Alimentum last night.

She did spit up last night but it wasn't chunky. She also gagged really badly when it was happening and then screamed after--previously, the spit up didn't seem to bother her that much, except for when it came out her nose. After that, she slept 4 peaceful hours and the rest of the night went pretty well. This morning, she was awake and alert for over an hour--that was the first time she stayed up that long without eating. She had a softer poo (it had been sorta hard and mucousy) and seemed generally happier. Then, we had two more instances of spitting up with the gagging and crying. Finally, an hour ago, we had liquid green poo. It didn't seem to bother her but it was definitely very liquid.

Has anyone switched to Alimentum and had this happen but clear up after a few days? I'm just worried that it's going to get worse. I don't know if it can get worse before it gets better or what. I'm going to the doctor in two weeks and going to talk about medication for reflux but in the meantime, I don't know if I should keep up with the Alimentum or just go back to Sensitive and wait until my appointment.

Just looking for people's experience with the stuff and formula switching in general.

  • Low HCG Levels in early pregnancy?

I just got a positive on a pregnancy test on Monday. It was a very faint faint line on a First Response and a "Pregnant" on a Clear Blue digital. Immediately, I went to my doctor and had them do blood work to confirm the pregnancy (I had a miscarriage in April and want to be cautious). Well, when the nurse called me back yesterday, she seemed very concerned b/c my HCG was only at 12. I'm pretty sure I O'd late this month, on the 16th or 17th so Monday would've only been 11-12 DPO. I'm waiting to hear my results from today's retest but I'm curious what kind of experiences other women have had. Has anyone had a blood test as soon as they got their BFP's? Has anyone started out with super low HCG and gone on to have a successful pregnancy?

  • Low progesterone and successful pregnancy?

So, I found out I was pregnant with #2 on 3/17. Went to the doctor on 4/5, everything looked good. I had my follow up blood work done on 4/8 and was called on 4/9 with terrible news. The nurse told me I was going to miscarry. I asked her questions about why or if there was anything I could do but she just said it was hopeless, I needed to make an appointment to have a D&C. Then, yesterday, I got a call from a different nurse telling me I needed to go on progesterone supplements b/c it was low. She said there was still a possibility of miscarriage but she definitely seemed more positive than the other one. Now, I'm sitting here, waiting to go get my first u/s today and I'm wondering if I should even have hope.

Has anyone had low progesterone, found at around 7-8 weeks and still had a successful pregnancy? Am I destined to miscarry no matter what I do? I know that everyone is different but if I can hear about someone else's experience that would definitely help. I don't know how I'm going to get through today.

  • Should I co-sleep with my baby again?

Here's the problem: My 6 1/2 month old daughter co-slept until about a month ago. At first, we didn't have too many problems. She was up to eat once a night, maybe twice, but it was never a big deal. For the last week or so, she's been getting up 4, 5 and even 6 or more times at night to eat.

In my opinion, here's another problem--she's also not sleeping at my mother-in-laws' during the day. So by 6 at night, my daughter is so tired she can't even finish her last bottle. She's still tired when she gets up and is unable to finish it later, so she gets up multiple times and works on finishing it.

I do not want to put cereal in her bottle. I refuse to let her cry it out. I'm just not sure what to do! I would love to hear suggestions for any of these problems! I don't mind waking during the night but this up every two hours is killing me lately! How do I get her to nap during the day? How can I keep her up for a little longer at night to get her to finish her bottle? Should I start co-sleeping again because it's easier on us?

  • How long does it take for the tooth to come out once a baby starts cutting it?

I noticed my daughter had a small hole in her mouth on Tuesday and yesterday afternoon, I actually felt a tooth. She's 6 months and has been teething for about a month and a half. It's definitely getting ready to pop out right now and I'm just wondering if this is going to take weeks as well?

She hasn't been sleeping and she cries so much; I feel so bad!

  • What do you do about dry scaly flakes on a baby's head?

My baby had cradle cap when she was 2-3 months but it went away after using Aveeno wash and lotion for a few weeks. She was bald at the time so it was pretty easy to treat. Now, her hair has come in and I can see the scaly flakes on her scalp. I don't think it bothers her and it doesn't bother me but is there something I should/can do? Will cradle cap go away on its own? I feel bad greasing up her hair with the lotion if it'll go away on its own--I'm just not sure what to do!

  • What should I do when starting solids with my 6 month old?

Here is the situation: I originally started my daughter on solids when my doctor recommended it at 4 months. She got constipated and had such bad gas that she screamed for 3 nights. I tried rice cereal, barley cereal and carrots but the gas and constipation were so bad I decided to wait until she was older. She'll be 6 months next week so I started with barley cereal again last week and she's doing much better this time around.

Now, here's the problem: I'm transitioning my daughter into her crib this week and she's been doing okay. Last night, however, she woke up numerous times and ate A LOT. She ate a lot more yesterday than she normally does so I thought maybe it's a growth spurt. This morning, my father-in-law said she might need another serving of cereal in the afternoon/evening.

Has anyone had the same problem? Do you think I should try a second serving of cereal? I was waiting until she was 6 months before upping her cereal intake but could this be the problem? I'm not looking for ways to get her to sleep longer and think that more cereal is the answer. I am perfectly happy getting up with her at night when she's hungry, but I want to do what's best for her. Does anyone have any advice??

  • Has anyone switched from Similac Advance to Similac Sensitive and back to Similac Advance?

I have a 6 month old who is on Similac Sensitive. I switched her from Advance to Sensitive when she was two months old and was thinking about switching back. I'm just curious if anyone else did this and had problems when switching back. Honestly, I'm just curious if I should even switch her since she's starting solids and she's doing so great on this formula already.

  • I'm having trouble feeding my 6 month old solid foods. I'm wondering how to make it easier for her?

I originally tried solids when my daughter was 4 months but her gas and constipation were so bad that I decided to wait until 6 months--this was all based on her doctor's orders. She'll be 6 months in another week and I started her on cereal last week. This could be completely normal but when feeding her, she has her hand in her mouth almost all the time. I know she's getting a little of the cereal but that hand is definitely preventing her from eating. I know she's hungry because she's up at night, eating more than normal. I'm just wondering if there is something I can do to get her to eat better or if I should just keep at it and she'll eventually do it on her own. I'm a first time mother so the whole solid foods thing is new to me!
