  • Is Grapefruit peel good for my compost pile?

A friend of mine knows that I have a compost pile on my garden. He has a business that uses around 20 grapefruit a day for seasoning. He has offered to give me the peeling from his grapefruit rather than throwing them in the dumpster. The juice and pulp has been removed with a press and each peel has been cut into 16 pieces. My garden is 14 foot by 20 foot. I have been putting those (600 grapefruit) peel on the garden for about 1 month and I am now beginning to wonder if that will be too much citric acid and oil for a vegetable garden. I will have another 60 days or before the temperature warms enough to plant. (But that would be another 1,200 grapefruit) Should I stop, or should I continue adding them to the garden?

  • How to tip Thorn-less Blackberries and Black Hawk Black Raspberries?

When tipping Thorn-less Blackberries and Black Hawk Black Raspberries, can I tip the second time when the new shoots are 12 inches long? Also, are starts coming from canes better then ones coming from the seeds of the berry, or can I just split the root system?

  • Peach Pits Splitting in Half?

The peach pits on my Elberta peach tree are splitting in half when separating the peach from the pit. A lot of these peaches have a moldy center seed and some have a long bug inside the pit, The tree is loaded with nice size peaches. I have sprayed every two weeks but still have this problem. This is the first year for this problem. The tree is about 8 years old. Any suggestions on what is going on?
