Why does YAHOO censor comments posted on news stories?
It is becoming painfully obvious that YAHOO is censoring the comments posted on its news stories.
The most egregious example was a recent story about the NAVY SEALS who were acquitted for allegedly beating an Iraqi detainee. Most commentators agreed with the verdict, but there were a few dissenters. Since YAHOO lists the comments on a first-come-first-post basis, the page 1 comments can be easily followed. Page 1 comments on this story were about 8:1 in favor of the verdict vs. questioning it. Then something strange happened. After a few days, all comments on page 1 questioning the decision were removed. Now only comments applauding the verdict and calling the SEALS heroes remain.
Regardless of how I feel about this particular case, I find it disheartening to discover that YAHOO is stifling debate. Is this a business decision (if so, it is a bad one as people are not stupid and will defect to sites where both sides of issues can be argued) or is it individual employees doing it out of some false sense of patriotism?
This is happening with virtually every YAHOO news story. Go check out page 1 of the comments and see how many people are replying to comments that are no longer posted. Someone suggested that if enough people vote "thumbs down" for a comment, it will be removed. However, this does not seem to be the case, as these comments become "hidden" rather than completely erased.
So what gives?
44 AnswersMedia & Journalism1 decade agoWhy can I see my wireless network with one laptop, but not the other?
I bought 2 laptops to use wirelessly with my home PC. One laptop has no problem finding my wireless network. However, the other can only connect if I plug it into the router (it cannot see the wireless network, so I cannot connect wirelessly).
The 2nd computer can see all my neighbors' networks (around 20 in total) but for some reason, cannot see my own, even when I have the computer just a few feet away from the router.
Anyone know what the problem could be?
1 AnswerComputer Networking1 decade agoDoes LG make a DVD recorder with Hard Drive capable of recording dual audio (2-language) when programmed?
I recently bought an LG RHT 497H DVD Player with hard drive.
I live in Spain where many American TV shows are shown dubbed into Spanish, however, a second digital audio channel usually plays the original language audio. I wanted to record TV shows (The Sopranos, Desperate Housewives, etc.) from the USA in the English language.
I found that the LG RHT 497H is capable of recording the English feed when I manually record, but only records the Spanish feed when programmed.
This DVD player is of no use to me, since I do not need to record when I am at home (I can watch the show live). I need to record when I am NOT at home, and this LG model cannot record in a second language using the programmed record settings.
What's worse, I have contacted LG Customer Service Spain about the problem, and they refuse to help me. They say that the manual never specifically claims that the 2 features work together, so I am stuck with my flawed DVD player.
Now, I need to buy another DVD player with a hard drive, but I need to know which models can be programmed to record dual audio broadcasts. Anyone know the answer?
1 AnswerTiVO & DVRs1 decade ago¿Tengo router, necesito modem?

I was just playing a tournament on full tilt poker and I was actually winning. Then I lost my connection and could not log on. Which led me to ask myself, "What happens to the poor player that is playing with real money?" I, fortunately, was playing with play money.
1 AnswerGambling1 decade agoWhy in God's name would Showtime only allow its web page to be read from the USA?
Can anyone think of one valid reason why Showtime would make its web page readable only from the United States?
I hope the reason is worth the ire that this has raised in their subscribers who travel abroad.
3 AnswersOther - Business & Finance1 decade agoBuying computer parts in Europe and USA?
When building a computer here in Europe, what pieces purchased in the USA will not be compatible with a system in Europe? Power supplies normally can run on both electrical systems? And DVD players will play European and American formats? Any other components or issues that I should worry about?
The reason I am asking this is because parts are much cheaper in the USA. I want to buy a case here in Europe, and then bring the other stuff back in my carry on luggage on my next trip to the states.
