1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoDo you think my short story is ok? It is rather long so sorry... :}?
Exhausted, weary, terrified, stepping out of the helicopter they had boarded not long ago from Heathrow Airport, Steve, Tom and Susan found themselves stranded. They shoved their way through the jagged rubble and wiped the dust from their eyes. After a quick check that everyone was still alive the three young adults examined the helicopter carcass, it was halved right in the centre as if a butcher had pounded it several times with a knife. They stared at the ruins like hawks, totally speechless as it hit them that this “experience of a lifetime” wasn’t far from the worst nightmare of their lives. No food, no tools, not even a roof over their heads they knew this was going to be some battle to survive.
They salvaged as much as they could from the helicopter and went to find a suitable place to set up camp. The island was magnificent, so tranquil and full of beauty. The tropical birds high up in the sky, the vibrant colours of the trees and plants and the peaceful sound of trickling water as it ran down the mountainside. They found a perfect place to sleep, it was like a cave dug out into the side of the rock. They were high enough up away from any predators and if it rained they were sheltered. Steve and Tom went a little wander around the island in search of anything that could be of use to them. Meanwhile, Susan went to look for some food for the three of them. There was barely anything worth eating. On the forest floor there were a few ripe looking mangos that the birds had pecked until they reached the hard stone in the centre. She picked some leaves of a small looking bush that she could remember learning about, she seemed fairly confident that they were edible. While doing this, she noticed a small white bird over in the distance under a little green tree. As she got closer she realised that it was a chicken. She hated the thought of killing an animal just so she and her friends could eat. She was a kind woman and certainly not selfish. She was quite tall with beautiful blonde hair and striking blue eyes. She always dressed well and liked to make an impression and the smell of roses followed her around wherever she walked. “Crack,” went the chickens neck when she finally plucked up enough courage to kill it. With the chicken in her hand and the leaves in her pocket she headed back to camp. She hadn’t realised how far she had wandered and it seemed to take her a while to get back to camp. Steve and Tom were pleased to see a chicken, they weren’t quite expecting that but it was a pleasant surprise. They all helped with the cooking, Susan started plucking it while Steve and Tom got a fire going. The chicken gave them a sense of security like being at home. A roast dinner, without the rest on the plate.
They woke on Saturday morning, 4 days on the island. They had been making do on little food and trying not to bite each others heads off. Lack of food and sleep had negative effects on their temperaments. They hadn’t been getting on with each other and they were arguing a lot more than they realized, just about little things, like food portion sizes and the comfiest bed. It was at breakfast time that morning when the last of their supplies had ran out and they started bickering with each other because they weren’t getting equal portions. Then when Steve had the last handful of the juicy berries a full blown argument broke out. Insults were flying about the camp and totally irrelevant personal things were mentioned. They realized that if they were to survive then they would have to go their separate ways and fend for themselves. After gathering their few belonging Tom and Susan headed of on their own not even looking back at Steve. Tom walked along a trodden path, his dark brown hair blowing in the light breeze. He was a clever man and he always persevered. He hated the thought of not being with his friends. He had known Steve since he was 5, it was like losing a brother. Even though he hadn’t known Susan for long either he didn’t like the fact that she was out in the wilderness all by herself, anything could happen to her. Steve didn’t really mind, he needed some time to himself to think things through. He wasn’t always the easiest to get along with and rather bossy and ignorant.
A couple of weeks had went past and things weren’t going great. Neither of them had eaten much and they were pretty miserable without each others company. They regretted the things they said to each other and felt really childish inside. They knew that separating was a mistake, but was it maybe too late to do anything about it? Tom had struggled on his own the most. He had felt really lonely and hated being away from the others. He started walking about trying to find any clues of where Steve and Susan could be. He couldn’t remember his way back to camp as he’d been so furious when he left. He had walked quite a distance looking for them. 2 AnswersHomework Help1 decade agoShort Story Essay please help. :D?
I'm writing a short story for english and i waned a little bit of help, i really don't know how to start it.
i was going to write about a group of young people (2 or 3 people maybe) who are in a plane crash and get stranded on an island. They have little food and a conflict breaks out which causes them to split up and fend for themselves. I was then maybe make them regroup as they realise that they do it on their own.
i really want help on how to start it (maybe them climbing out the rubble). its meant to be roughly 800 words and it gets marked mainly on development of character and setting.
please help, and help appreciated, tips on how to make it good and any other ideas. thank you :D
