What's the difference, and why do you feel you need both as is often the case?

I had been in a serious relationship with my girlfriend for 6 years. We had been friends for 5 years before that. I was strongly considering asking her to marry me, until a tragedy happened and her friend (a much older man) passed away a few months ago. I know it's very sad to lose a close friend, but her grief seemed to run far deeper than what one would normally expect, even over the loss of a parent or spouse, and that, coupled with the fact that I never knew of this man's existence prior to his death, led me to believe that something more had been going on between them. I tried to talk to her about it but she refused to discuss the issue with me at all and even called me selfish for bringing it up. Long story short, I broke up with her a few weeks later and we haven't spoken since. I no longer trust her because whether anything was going on between them or not, she kept their friendship secret from me for who knows how long, and the only reason I can think of to keep someone in your life a secret from the person you're in a relationship with is that you're cheating with that person. What do you think? Did I do the right thing by ending our relationship at a time when, looking back on it, she probably really needed someone to be there for her? All honest opinions will be appreciated.
